The George Liquor Program

Hey! Who knows who this guy is??

These are images from The George Liquor Program that I have been trying to get to you for years. It's my best prime-time show.

I want to test your knowledge of my crap...what can you tell me about these characters? Who knows their names? How many of you want to see this damn fine show about truth, ideals and the American way?

BTW, thanks again to Eric Bauza for digitizing the artwork and assembling the glorious splash page. He is also a great voice talent so if you have cartoon shows in production hire the goddamn genius! He does every voice.

And who are these fine bitches below?

I'm mortified that it's even an issue for you to get something aired, maybe you need a new manager...

You revitalised the modern cartoon, redefined even and created the mainstream 'adult' cartoon market. Every piece of shit rip off that they put on the air can suck my dick as thousands of imitators AREN'T the real thing.

George Liquour should already be a classic series, and if someone doesn't put it to air, or at the very least to DVD, then there's a serious imbalance in the cosmos.

Maybe put up a 1 or 2 minute excerpt on your blog, allow it to be downloaded and watch it spread across the net like wildfire. You know those puffy exec's know about this interneck thing, coz their kids get on it and they're all consumers, and they're all sharing your little excerpt and they'll tell their execudads and they'll be all like "john, my boy, here's 20 mill, drop George Liquour on the moerfukkaz right now!", and you'll be all "easy".

Ah, those WPH grabs brought back a fit of nostalgia. I still have fond memories of that, despite all the torture involved in trying to get it done on a weekly schedule and make each episode better and more lovely than the last.

I showed my copies of 1-12 to a friend recently. (I never ended up with the fragments of 13.) Eye-rolling quickly moved to fascinated horror as the story got moving. God, I wish we'd been able to get some funding to get that thing finished.

I'd love to know what the theory connecting "adult cartoon" and "shitty drawings" is - if it's anything deeper than "Beavis and Butthead was crudely drawn, and a big hit, so all teenage boy - um - adult cartoons must look like shit".

Yes please, we need more of that good, clean entertainment that you so skillfully provide.
I'm a huge R&S fan and wasted many an art class trying to draw them.
Mr. Liquor is so squat and almost disgusting, it's hard to take your eyes off of him.

George Liquor, AMERICAN! was probably my favorite character from the revamped Ren and Stimpy show (other than the gruesome twosome themselves).

John K is a true genius!
This is our modern equivalent to the old WB cartoons, Tex Avery, etc.
He is an amazing artist, writer, and most importantly, comedian.
I have never laughed at a cartoon til I started watching Ren and Stimpy when I was younger.
(Also can't believe I watched Nickleodeon to see the eps!)
Thanks for years of enjoyment, inspiration, yada, yada, yada.
NOW ALL YOU TV EXECS AND SUITS GET YER ASSES IN GEAR AND SHOW THIS MAN SOME RESPECT!!!!
I WANT MY JOHN K TV!

Say John, I thought I ask.

Familiar with the comic-strip "FoxTrot"? Ever saw one strip where Jason was watching some web cartoons, and he mentioned "G.D. George Liquor Program"? (Goddamn was changed to G.D., since non-Doonesbury comics arn't allowed to use it)

That strip was published years ago. I thought I ask.

I don't like Family Guy, but if theres one thing to be learned is that fans have more power than they think! Come on folks, with this interweb thing we can join our forces and make some smart exec notice these great cartoons! It will be a great deal for them and for us, there's simply no one else doing the kind of stuff that we would get if these shows were made!!

Well check it out tonight. I'll get something up.

John,

I feel redundant in telling you that you are truly one of the best animators to have ever picked up a pen. I grew up with Ren and Stimpy, and loved the guest apperences from "George American" as he was named in the series (dang censors). Anyway I continue to follow your work, and was disapointed to see Spumco's site is no longer around.

I love the Yogi Bear re-anims you've done, hilarious work.

Now to get on topic, if there were ever a George Liquor DVD release, I'd be right in line to buy it. I hope you're able to do this because in a time that is so P.C., and yet Family Guy can sell so well on DVD, I think that George Liquor would be received well.

Hope you can make this dream a reality, and keep drawing. You're fan base is much bigger than the big-wig execs realize.

I remember being very nervous and actually writing you a letter. Thinking that Spumco was closed, I looked up your mailing address on yellow book . com, Sorry about that but you know how fans get. I guess what happened was very temporary.
And I do apologize about bugging you with that letter.

Hi John, the comments on this post have gone bonkers, you must be well pleased. I'm proud to have been only the 3rd person ever to comment on your blog, something I can put down to my addiction to Katie Rice's stuff. Anyway I wondered if you'd considered mobile phones as an outlet for your shows? Not sure about the States but over here many phones can handle video and Flash. I know Aardmann here in Bristol are working on something for mobiles. That way you can cut out the TV networks altogether. Just a thought.

The characters. I see "Jimmy the Idiot Boy" which you have been proposing since shortly after the whole Nickelodeon debacle with "Ren and Stimpy." I remember him from the "Ripping Friends." I see Sody Pop, which I only know from the POP at Spumco's Comic-Con boothes from back in the day. I don't really know who the three girls are, but I'm willing to learn. (Are they from that PS2 Mariko game?)

JohnK said...

>>Speaking of which, Boo Boo Runs Wild is brilliant and twisted...and I mean this in a very good way. Do you plan to make additional episodes of that as well, or was it just a one-off to whet our collective appetites and remind us why we missed you

I'd love to make whole series' of Hanna Barbera cartoons. I'm sure I could revive those characters and make the world love 'em again as I do.

But how do you convince a network? Do they have a blog or something where you can tell them what you want?

Organize on mass!

dcmackinlay said...

It's a frigging crime that you even need to stoop to this. By this point, this long after Ren and Stimpy, there should be no questions asked anymore. Each time you have an idea for a cartoon show (and screw this "adult" B.S. you oughtta be making cartoons everyone gets to watch) the suits should be knocking one another down just to get to be the one that helps you get it made.

Hell yeah, I'd buy the DVD. Show me where to get it, and I will go there and buy it.

George Liquor looks like something I'd watch. I'm extremely curious to see how you handle a mentally retarded character. It's a dangerous area, and one that's never addressed (intelligently) in comedy or animation.

I'm always interested in buying new Spumco merch. Buy, buy, buy! Consume, consume! 18-27 year old males like myself can't get enough of that wonderful John K. stuff! And I'm not gettting. I bought two volumes of the Ripping Friends and I haven't even watched it.

btw - What's the deal with Adult Swim playing that episode of Ranger Smith over and over again? Are there more than just the one episode? And what ever happened to the Jetsons remake you did a few years back?

JohnK,

I've got all the R&S sets (though it's tough to watch the ones in the middle where Ren is so round).

Hell yes, I'd buy a George Liquor DVD and anything else you got.
Especially a whole DVD of nothing but Sody Pop.

Adult Swim has a forum that they do read and occasionally reference on the bump slides. Go to AdultSwim.com and let's start doing some arm twistin'.

George Liquor would be so much better a waste of 30 mins than squidbillies and perfect hair forever.

Anonymous said...

Of course I would like to see this, though since I'm from Spain, you know, and your cartoons are not the type you get in DVD in all the regular malls around the world, so it would take you some time to air this in America and it would take me half-a-century to watch it, if it arrives here somehow, or I'll have to download it from the internet.

Anyway, first I didn't like George Liquor in The Ren and Stimpy show, but when I bought Spumco comic book I started to love him. That story about fishing was great. I would also love to see Sody Pop animated during more than a second.

Yeah, this characters has tons of personality, that's for sure. Though I also found the flash cartoons a little slow, it had to be because of the format.

Cigarretes the cat and Dirty dog are pretty cool too. Very Clampett-like (they remind me of that dog and cat characters in An Itch In Time- I think that was the short title).

we want more content!! i'd definitely be up for a george liquor DVD, or commercials, or anything that allows me to watch this stuff! and if you could find a way to get the ren and stimpy "lost" episodes to DVD as well, that would be amazing.

I'd been showing friends the bootleg unedited "dog Show" and the banned from Nick "Man's Best Friend" for years until they were FINALLY available on DVD. If DVDs of anything of yours came out, I'd buy 'it in a heartbeat.
THE WORLD NEEDS MORE JOHN K. CARTOONS!
I hope you get paid every time adult swim shows "Boo Boo Runs Wild". They've been showing the damn thing every week forever now. It rocks but I want GEORGE LIQUOR!

My Spumco dolls of Jimmy the Idiot Boy and George Liquor can now look upon Hi-Res digital pics of their visage! A DVD of "The George Liquor Program" would be as heavenly as angels pissing oil and farting fairy dust over the southern United States!

You are the best artist in the world!!! I had to go on eBay and fork over a lot of dough for the Spumco Comic Books. Have you thought about re-releasing them? The newspaper they're printed on gets weird and bendy at the binding and ruins the flow of the artwork. Dark Horse has now started using high quality glossy paper on comics like Eric Powell's "The Goon" and Spumco artwork would look awfully purty on that stock.

I just read about the new Ren & Stimpy APC episodes coming out on DVD and I've literally started to salivate! I personally sent many e-mails to SpikeTV letting them know they deserve to be flogged for ruining the work of the biggest genius in animation, the bastards!

Will the rest of "The Ripping Friends" be released on DVD? That little 4 episode DVD has become very worn.

Keep up the great work and the shockingly accurate celebrity drawings. John K. = Genius, Bob Camp = Douchebag.

Love ya!

George Liquor rules!

John,

I have 2 words.....

Comedy
Central

They get away with more stuff, especially after 1am. Jimmy the retard boy and George Liquor can go nuts and the puritans can't say a word. If Drawn Together can push the envelope with Adult Humor, I can't see why Spumco can't get a show there. Adult Swim is going Amime and many of the shows they aired are gone. Comedy Central is owned by Viacom, R&S Adult Party Cartoon would fit in perfect there. Spike has wussed out and are censoring shows, Comedy Central is doing the oposite. I loved the Yogi Bear cartoon on Adult Swim, me and my wife were in hysterics though the whole thing. We do the Boo-Boo grunts and crack each other up. That cartoon was like a ray of sunshine though all the Anime and re-animated CGI crap they show. George Liquor, Jimmy The Idiot Boy, Sodie Pop and The Catholic Girls would work great on Comedy Central. South Park has run it's course, something needs to take it's place. If you put anything out on DVD, I'd grab it in a second.

I would give a lot to own a copy of the George Liqour program or almost anything by spumco. Don't listen to what these damn hippies are telling about animating Hemingway or whatever nonsense they're trying to tell you. If you make it, we will buy it.

blueshifter said...

Are you kidding me? of COURSE I'll pay for anything John K. puts out. I wore out my R&S tapes years ago, and the DVDs are getting some serious wear!

I've never seen GD George, except for in that I Miss You Video and in a certain early episode of Ren and Stimpy (he shooed them away from a can and sock they were going to eat). But if it's by John Kricfalusi then I'm pretty sure it won't suck.

I just hope any such cartoons you make come across the atlantic. We don't get anything good here after dark anymore.

We need something to put us through the cold, depressing winter months!

Here go my two cents:

You can finance the productionof the whole series by selling a first 2 or 3 episodes DVD trough here or by ebay. I'd buy that no matter the price or louse packaging... then with that cash... you produce the rest of the series. What? Wont work? Meh... you probably right. Anyway, I hope some sponsor out there has the guts to go for your production.

GREAT JOB!
GET THEM ON DVD.
IS VIACOM READING THIS?

ooh... was it too loud?

George Liquor, American is somebody who's voice is perfect for this day and age. How about if we had ol George string up the other George and teach him about how discipline begets love? Heh heh.
Long live the genius of John K!

Anything backed up with John K.'s name or Spumco's logo is sure to be bought by fans. If you know John's work - there just isn't anything else like it on television today and there is a large audience that would kill for REAL cartoons with new themes, gags and balls; everything is too safe - which means it's not interesting/entertaining. I have purchased every John K. DVD I can find - and would love to see some of these drawings come to life.

I found George Liquor's, (GL), toons purely by accident. I fell in love with the characters and the animation is top notch. Reminds me of the old Bugs cartoons. I only wished I had down loaded the episodes when I had a chance. I look for ,GL now and find nothing. These are toons that need to be seen and people should be given a chance to appreciate the animators work. Another artist that is in the same boat is Joe Cartoon. Great stuff but the only way I know how to view Joe Cartoons, cartoons is on the internet. If you get a chance check it out. www.joecartoon.com.

Please Please release your old interactive cartoons George Liquor and Weekend Pussy Hunt on dvd. I'll buy it. PLEASE PLEASE begging with tears in my eyes.

Hey Mr. K --

Your cartoons are gorgeous. So is Sody Pop. I know a girl, believe it or not, who looks exactly like that. I'm am about to explode just thinking about it . . . . The important thing is that you get this work to the hungry public. George Liquor kicks my ass!

Regards,

A long time fan.

Hi John K,

I have loved your work and have been a huge fan of yours for years. It would be great if you could bring back the old Spumco site. Perhaps you could sell your art work? I know I would be interested. I have a couple of your figures, Jimmy the idiot and George.

Anyway I really hope to see more of your work in the future.

Good Luck

Paul
