I also see Lisa Kudrow, Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck?

How dare you mock the fabulous Paris Hilton!

There, that should get the argument ball rolling.

Actually, I find Paris to be a sort of caricature of what could be a very attractive person. She has tiny squinty eyes and a very small mouth without much lip and a blunt rectangular head. On one hand, her appearance is regal and princess-like... but with an overlay of all tawdry and crass things.

Which you've captured perfectly, of course.

can we see some nicky and paris action...lord knows you can make it happen.

Joel Bryan said...

Oh yeah... that bottom one looks like Matt Damon riding herd on a startled orphan. I'm not sure what's going on with the woman who's smiling about it all. Matt Damon fan?

Matt needs an upraised riding crop or horsewhip in his right hand.

Judging from her expression, Paris is completely aware of it and approves.

This is because Matt's herding them into one of her child labor farms, where they'll toil until the end of their days manufacturing press releases maintaining Paris' fame.

Excellent. I especially like the Lisa Kudrow drawing. However, I cannot stand Paris Hilton, even in caricature form. Yech. Great drawings!

Cheers,

Josh

These are great, John!!
Paris never looked like a real person to me. She kind of looks like a badly airbrushed dept. Store manniqen.
Hey, is Eddie Fitzgerald ever gonna get a blog together? I love his stuff, too!
My favorite commentaries on the Looney Tunes dvds are the ones you guys do together.

Man, that Paris Hilton is a camera hog. Always has to step in people's shots even in caricatures.

Baterflai said...

Ehm... the ugly faces of the characters are enough wild and controversial...

Aimee Nester said...

This is the best!! I love phoebe, and, and, paris. Tee, hee...
Also... You really captured the knobbiness of jennifer afleck's head.
Grins to you.

makinita said...

man thats one creepy ass looking bear doll at the top of the shelf there uggg

Aimee Nester said...

as a sidebar, I really think that in the first picture paris has the look that if the camera was turned away for even a moment, she'd eat her dog...

In her real life (if you can call it a real life), she has the weirdest toes. So does Reese Witherspoon... I'm kind of a toe-noticing kinda person. I think it would be funny to draw the toes of the famous to guess. Thats not weird at all...??

Your Lisa Kudrow is amazing.

The other ones are great too, including your versions of Paris Hilton, but Lisa was especially dead-on.

WIL said...

I heard a rumor that Paris Hilton has an empty MGuffin... but I don't believe it.

z0mbi said...

You definately NAILED that last paris characature. Spot on.

Anonymous said...

Spot on, great stuff as usual, John...keep up the amazing work (and please tip us off in advance to when you'll be playing with the band somewhere!).

Hmmm, I wonder what everyone will fight about today if I don't say something wild and controversial...???

They shall fight about how people are fighting in these Blog feedbacks but of course.

I don't know if you notice yet, but the Internet was created so that bitchy people could bitch about every tiny little detail about every single thing ever created in the universe.

I for one, blame Al Gore.

hmm, I don't really find Paris Hilton very beautiful, kind of trash's like wet trash that feel in poop or something.

Tim Howland said...

Boy, I dunno- I think you missed something.

The people in the drawings have different expressions. They sort of look human.
Paris only has one expression!

Hey! These are great!

John! Check out this Paris Hilton portrait drawn by my friend James Jajac (who is currently working on debuting his own art website):

You didn't make Paris nearly as ugly as she is. Try again!

Hey John!
Great bizarre drawings! My only complain are the models... I think you use this 'celebrities' because they are well known and everyone -or at least the ones who watch E!- can recognize, but what about using your great abilities drawing real celebrities, like Zappa, Jodorowski, Lynch, even Hefner...
I really really really hate that Paris Hilton slut...

Gabriel said...

I never noticed how shiny Jennifer Garner's forehead was, but if you say so I'll keep my eyes open.

Who knew the awesomely sick mind behind Ren & Stimpy & "the beautiful people" was a hottie! Keep posting pictures of yourself...

Danielle said...

LOL! Look! It is Paris Hilton and her doggy. lol I had to say that one!

Jorge Garrido said...

Hey, everyone, I'm working on my John K caricature and I figured I'd post some roughs for your viewing pleasure!

I've discovered I'm no good at stylized or exaggerated caricature. I find I can't make the celebrity look like himself. But then again, this is the first time I've ever caricatured...

Some roughs

One of my first

Another rough

My latest rough. Notice the pants.

Here's a Paris I did a while back when I first saw your takes on her from Katie's blog:

Evan's Paris

It contains a "wardobe malfunction" like the real Paris is always having, so minors be warned, then of course click anyway.

Haw! Haw! Haw! Jorge, that last drawing of John in pants was absolutely hilarious! The comments page on this site is becomming an attraction all by itself. Fans are talking among themselves about John's shirts, his grooming habits, underwear, what he does with his boogers, etc. Poor John doubtless wants to keep a high tone here but it looks like the fans are determined to party. I can't wait to see how this develops.

By the way, thanks Eric and Robo for asking about my blog. I'll put it up as soon as I can find the software disc that goes with my Visioneer 8100 scanner. Maybe I can get it off the net.

WOW!! The great Eddie Fitzgerald liked my drawings! Thanks, holmes! Today I was watching your short on youtube.com Tales of Worm Parnoia and I was amazed by the full animation! You are awesome, dude. I can't wait to see your blog! Thanks for the encouragement.

P.S. NARF!!!

Let me introduce myself. My name is Michael Vernon. I love Ren and Stimpy. I was on a search for Ren and Stimpy, and lo and behold I found your Blog (Blo-ogg! Blo-og! A wonderful, wonderful toy!)
Opps! That's Log. Any how, I'm rambling on. I found myself hooked on this blog. I swore I would never be a statistic and become a blogger. You have inspired me to go on, to use this venue.
I too am an artist, and the blogging is a great way to express one's creative juices. It's great to find that you have a ton of projects going. When Spike tv promoted the return of Ren and Stimpy, I though "Oh joy!" If you get the chance, or desire, please check out my blog.
I shouldn't have eaten those bargain buritos, last nigh! "I-t's Ri-pping time!"

hiya John :)

the only pic of me up on my blog is the lousy self portrait pic you see to the right of this comment...it's all i had on this computer...hmmm...maybe i'll do a self-indulgent, self-portrait posting. i've got enough of them and i do believe there is an art to everything, self-portraits very much included.

but yeah, i do draw...stay tuned for that posting. i've gotta do some scanning first before i get that posting up.

and i wanted to tell you that your caricature drawings are just amazing. you really are a master of them. they are so exaggerated and funny and shouldn't look a thing like the person you are drawing but magically, and looking as funny and ridiculous as they do, they end up being so obviously the person you are caricaturing (caricaturing...is that a word? i don't think so).

juno :)

Way to deconstruct. I think you can make them more beautifuller, though. Hey, be sure to put your People magazine down as a business expense when you file.

Ben Assfleck needs a much more prominent underbite. I figure between his grotesque jaw and his wife's greasy forehead, their new baby will grow up to be...well, the spawn of a bitter, broken man who didn't go to Harvard and can't act.

1.) I'm glad you used the 'controversial' remark yesterday; it's works great for the cartoon AND it's a touchstone that registers with young and old alike. Whether me or anyone else disagrees or agrees with the opinion is inconsequential; you were revealing the source of the one of the pivotal lines in the comic, sort of like a textual commentary to the action in the comic (much like spoken commentary in a DVD, but without Eddie Fitzgerald's hearty background laughter)not trolling for a discussion on societal morals and attitudes since 1964. Nothing wrong at all about being opinionated in your own blog!
2.)The paris hilton drawings appear to me as being between caricature and old timey fashion magazine-like illustrations, but, hey she was a model before she became whatever the hell she is now. I really like the smirk you captured on the parismatt jpeg - that's her to a tee!
3.)Does anybody else pay attention to Matt Damon's "celebrity" anymore? Well, he is fun to draw, especially as the pompous actor prick he portrayed in "Shakespeare In Love".

Hallis B said...

great caricatures. that bottom Paris is amazing, i love your economic use of lines. it's very elegant.

bottom Paris great!

Thanks, Ted! The Visioneer site you mentioned isn't giving the software away but they're selling it for 10 pounds. Better that than buying a whole new scanner! The driver update is free.

Also thanks to Jorge for the kind comments on The Worm.

...Love the Lisa Kudrow one! (You don't see many caricatures of her out there) I also liked the way you handled Paris's face shape.

Alright, here's my little sketch o' John.

I like the 2nd and 3rd Paris best, the others are almost too flattering! John K has some scary, scary toys- but it's amazing what a Huckleberry Hound Cartoon kit can do for a guy.

Ted said...

Eddie:
Once you have the drivers, you should be able to use lots of different software to actually capture the images from the scanner. Like photoshop, if you have it, or a freeware program.
