Hey John, I know you dont like coloring in photoshop, and ive never used painter.. whats the biggest difference (pros/cons).. Ive posted a colorized photoshop drawing for my class.. tell me what you think..

JohnK said...

Painter has better brushes and textures-at least it used to. I use Painter 2.

Photoshop is basically blotchy airbrush.

yeah click the links!

I think the question was (and if it wasn't, then I have the question I thought it was) would the posters be on sale online. Because they aren't on EPHAS's website yet.
(And will Spumco's name be on the Weird Al video, or will it not be for byzantine legal (or other) reasons? Most of the more official mentions seem to say your name, not Spumco.)

QUESTION FOR JOHN & EDDIE

What do ya think about Tex Avery's Screwball Squirrel cartoons? To me there true classics. I love "Happy-Go-Nutty", "The Screwy Truant" and "Lonesome Lenny". Srewball Squirrel was like MGM's Bugs Bunny. Tex should have made more Srewball Squirrel cartoons.

your pal,

Jesse

Nothing personal, but it's always a bummer when one of your long time heroes lets you down. Why the mention/promotion of your MySpace page, John, if you are not going to even bother adding people that request to be friends?

JohnK said...

>>John, if you are not going to even bother adding people that request to be friends?

I have about 50 pages filled with requests!

I can't keeep up.

sorry

John, are there any episodes of R+S produced by Games Animation that you personally enjoyed, or that you felt achieved the level of quality that you had set for the show in the first two seasons?

JohnK said...

>>Games Animation that you personally enjoyed, or that you felt achieved the level of quality that you had set for the show in the first two seasons?

Nope

they were all undirected. And no personality.

There were some nice backgrounds here and there, but none of them worked as films or stories.

I sooooo wish i could make it. :(

Hey John, what kind of music does your band play? I see you play guitar, do you play any other instruments. I understand as an animator in the timing aspect is to ones advantage to play a musical instrument.. Have you always played music?

DAMN YOU CALIFORNIA!!!

CA get's all of the cool event's!

Deron said...

Hi John. Any chance you want to hang out in my basement for the summer? I've been asking M.C. Hammer but he's apparently too good to return my e-mail.

It'll be a good time: we'll drive around in a 1984 Chevy station wagon and you'll experience everything life on the Canadian prairie has to offer. Which is basically neanderthalic farm boys and mosquitos the size of chihuahuas.

Go easy on this question folks but does any body here like "Catscratch"? I for one love the designing of those cats.

Will M. said...

Hey, I found your blog while looking for a list of good animation schools. As someone with a huge interest in animation and film, and looking to enter the industry someday, I have found your site very helpful. However, I am still learning how to draw and the basics of animation, and I would love to know more. I've looked all over your site for a specific title of the " Preston book" you refer to as a basic holy grail. There are several books by Preston on amazon, and I would love to know if you mean one or all of them. Also, any other basic advice, and I do mean BASIC, as I have fallen in love HARD with animation as my film study of choice, but I am still relatively new to the processes, study, and execution. Any info or ideas from anyone is much appreciated.

bardhol said...

Whoah hey there! anonymous, I enjoy me some catscratch, mostly as I have been a longtime admirer of both (the creator) Douglas TenNapel and (the composer)Terry Taylor. I like Doug's designs a lot, too.

Hey Bardhol

I think Mr.Blick is the coolest looking cat out of the feline trio.

Hey John, I won't be able to make it unfortunately due to work, money woes, and the fact that I'm stuck here in Florida for the time being, but I'll tell my L.A. friends all about it. They love your cartoons as well!

Animation and live action don't mix;
it didn't work for "Cool World", "Who Framed Roger Rabbit", "Space Jam" or "Looney Tunes: Back In Action".

Matthew Harding said...

It worked in "You Oughtta Be In Pictures" with Porky, Daffy and Leon. Great fun.

Anonymous said...

Hey Anonymous

Go easy on "Cool World". It was drirected by Ralph Bakshi from the Ren & Stimpy classic "Fire Dogs 2".

^That doesn't make it better for me. Ok, the visuals were cool, but I wasn't really interested in the plot whatsoever.

Hee hee! The word "blog" gets bigger and bigger every time I come here. Is that you doing it, John? Or is it "the blog that wont stop growing"?? (Or are you just happy to see me?)

Hey John,
what do you think of Disney saying that Warner's Bugs Bunny was actually influenced by their 1934 Silly Symphony "the Tortoise and the Hare" character Max Hare?

u reckon that's just BS or there's something there?

Avery admitted that the design was identical, but he said the rabbit wasn't Bugs Bunny until they gave him the personality. But I still say A Wild Hare was the first true Bugs cartoon.

I wish I could be a fly on the wall of the Warner's studio in the 40's. I wish I had a time machine that only let you look into the past like a security camera or something.

I have a very large tattoo on my back I got about ten years ago. The illustrator is Jon k. and I got it out of a juxtopose magazine. I wish I had kept the copy of the magazine, but I didn't. I would send a pic of it, but I don't know how. I just want to know what the name of the print is.
