APC Trailer - Stimpy's Pregnant
Buy "Ren & Stimpy: The Lost Episodes" Here!
OK, so check this out. Eric Bauza made trailors of all the APC cartoons.
As you can see from Stimpy's Pregnant we try lots of different things in every cartoon.
Each sequence has a different point, a different pacing and lots of new ideas.
Some scenes are about the subtlety of the acting and personalities some are action sequences some are cartoon firsts-like the onscreen live birth in this cartoon.
All the sequences further develop the overall point of the cartoon story. They are in context. The story has construction just like the drawings.
See how many different styles and ideas you can detect from this small portion of clips from the epic Stimpy's Pregnant -which BTW was written in 1990 for Nickelodeon. It's really a first season episode that we didn't get to make for 12 years.

Um...HELL YEAH
Thank Marc Deckter for uploading the clip!
I bet if you go to his site you'll find more cool stuff there.
By the way, Steffi (arschblog) is visiting my folks in Ottawa for the next couple weeks and I will be joing her this weekend.
Maybe we will post about our adventures.
Hey John, I can't wait for this DVD to come out.
I noticed that the license plate of Ren's car says clampett (clmpit?)
And I thought the nurse in the Hospital at the reception desk looked like a Katie Rice girl, am I right?.
-Ollie
>>And I thought the nurse in the Hospital at the reception desk looked like a Katie Rice girl, am I right?.<<
she's mostly a Jessica Borutski girl.
Goddamn! the groping spider, the padded wire hanger, the goldfish in stimpy's amniotic fluid, and his shaved crotch in the delivery room, always make me laugh out loud! the "pig's" expressions are freakin' awesome and the "CLMPET' license plate always makes me smile. good stuff John!
Was it really written in 1990? Wow, I'm trying to imagine this episode with the animation quality back then.
I love the scene when Stimpy tells Ren that he's pregnant... and then Ren's reaction. "Don't you daaare point that nasty instrument at me!" Hahaha. Eric Bauza is awesome.
More.
Hoooooooooooooly SHIT!!!
John, your cartoons are the BEST! The animation and expressions in that preview completely floor me!
Is that the same preview you showed us at the show a couple weeks ago? The entire theater was howling like mad when we saw that (especially when it showed Dr. Horse). HAHAHA!
The DVD comes out next month people!! It's gonna be GREAT!!!!
>>> Stimpy's Pregnant -which BTW was written in 1990 for Nickelodeon. It's really a first season episode that we didn't get to make for 12 years. <<<
So lemme get this right.
If Nickelodeon let you have your way, there would have been...
A cartoon character threatening to perform an abortion with a wire hanger...
...on a Sunday morning at 11 o'clock on MuchMusic.
In friggin' 1991.
Huh???
Man, not only is the character stuff great... but there are a lot of amazing backgrounds too! I especially love the backgrounds in the tree house.
HELLLZZZZ YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHZZZZZZ
Holy shit John that was insane!! "Make way for new life" Ren screams as he blows a dog off a bridge with a shotgun.. we need to see more of this..

Huh???
They added stuff in the new cartoons to make it an adult show.
Lighten up,"mom".
when is the dvd coming out????
Hey John,
Do you have any thoughts of reviving ren and stimpy to its original for adult swim on cartoon network?
John, are you working on reactivating spumco? Any Progress?
>> They added stuff in the new cartoons to make it an adult show.
Lighten up,"mom".
Hey, who said I had a problem with that? :)
But now I'm curious as to what was in the originally proposed episode.
YEAH!!! How about a trailer for Altruist? I loved how the baby pressed it self against Stimpys stomach. Classic
I am very excited about this DVD release ,you never case to amaze me with. However, I can't see how you can say of these clips had subtle acting. The scene that you posted earlier with Bugs talking to the audience was subtle acting, Bugs was very casual.
I saw this game on-line and it's obvious that they are pulling the Spumco style. This seems to happen a lot. Is it flattering or annoying?
that is to say this game: http://www.weebls-stuff.com/games/bconstructive/
Some things I’ve noticed and a couple questions.
I noticed that the background in the outhouse changes color when both spiders leave the crap hole. Is this a mistake? During the scene when Stimpy says, “I’ve been trying to figure out how to tell you!” As he cries this, his nose hits under Ren’s eye. Nice touch. Also another nice touch when Ren’s head drops in his shirt and his eyes form the look of breasts on the outside. I love how the backgrounds change to a much darker look to help convey the anger Ren’s going through. I love the look on the fish after it gets sliced in half.
Love the Pig and his voice sounds familiar. I once read somewhere that your father was the voice of Ren’s father from Ren Seeks Help. Is the Pig’s voice your father?
In the scene where Ren asks the nurse, “Where’s the Doctor,” is that Vincent Wallers’ drawings? LOVE THAT HORSE!!
There’s definitely tons of stuff I’m going to have to freeze frame when the DVD comes out. Both characters are always doing something and this requires more multiple viewing . It definitely gives your characters more life. I hope the DVD sales help spawn more Spumco fun.
I really enjoyed your old ren and simpy cartoons and was kind of worried about these new ones.
But man, funny stuff! Shooting out cars and yelling "make way for new life" made me smile.
after the AP ren and stimpy comes out on dvd are you planning on releasing more?
Rubber firearms!! I love cartoons. =]
"FRIGGIN AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Hi Eric Bauza
Thanks for the cool Trailer. I just can't wait for the R & S Lost Episodes DVD to come out! I love your voice acting in those clips. Did John make you do every single line about a hundred times? Stimpy's Pregnant looks like a real kick-ass cartoon. Keep up the good voice work.
Jesse Oliver
If it's the girl behind the desk who is only in the scene for like 2 seconds, then I think it is mine...someone else had that scene but had me layout the girl. I don't know who animated it though.
Hi
I heard they were going to release all the seasons from ren and stimpy on a box set or something like that...I just wanted to say that here in Mexico we love ren and stimpy and i was very dissapointed that the uncut version of season one didnt have spanish dub...we dont want subtitles we want them dubbed...ren and stimpy have a fan base in mexico...im 16 and i remember even my painting teacher in school used to talk about how good they were and how he wished they were back on tv...theyre back actually but only very late at night and it sucks...because its onlye once a week! theyve even translated one of the APC to spanish and it was awesome...we really like our spanish dub and i would like to know who should i adress to get the dubs on a dvd...
how many episodes will be on the new DVD's? and is there any possibility boo boo runs wild will be on it?
Hi Guys!
Hopefully if you pile on the posts, John will put ALL of the APC sneak peeks up!
They were basically 5 minute previews that I cut together for our panel at Comic-Con last year.
Of all the trailers that were cut "Stimpy's Pregnant" usually brings the house down at every John K screening!!!
Thanks!
Eric Bauza
pssssst . . . hey . . . link my blog!!!
http://bauzilla.blogspot.com/
I need to see the whole thing! It is beyond want.
Stimpy's acting is great- you obviously witnessed this once in your life!
Absolutely incredible.
Wow! :D
I want to study it :) I particularly love the later part of the clip. It has such energy!!
As always, thank you so much for the post :)
I showed this clip to my mom earlier. She laughed through the whole thing. Well done, sir. B)
Awesome!!
Nice stuff. I'd like to see the rest of the previews, but if the DVD date is close I'd rather not spoil anymore.
Btw, does anyone know what happened to Eddie's blog??
Ren and stimpys, is one of the greatest cartoons ever.
"Muito obrigado" Thanks
Subtle this isn't, but boy is this great stuff! I can't wait for the release of the Lost Episodes DVD!
These clips are hilarious, I need to own that dvd!
Heyy people, check out my blog and watch some cartoons:
http://www.thecartooncinema.blogspot.com/
Oh Crackers, I just shot mucus outta my cxmhole I laughed so hard! One thing though, why not give Ren & Stimpy external genitalia? Is it too hard to animate or what? Seriously, this made me break down, especially the part where they're shooting at the cars. Also love the bits where Ren is acting extraordinarily cruel to Stimpy, not the wimpy crap like in the last Nick seasons, where he was neutered! Altruists looks even better! I'll try to sew up my fan boy pisshole now, Sir. Sorry, Won't happen again?!
FUNNY STUFF:D!
>Want to see more trailors?
No, I want to see some trousers...
That's some great shit! Can't wait til the DVD is out!
that looks goddam delicious!
'MAKE WAY FOR NEW LIFE!!!' ...heh heh heh.
can't wait for the dvd to arrive at my doorstep.
bravo, sir.
I'm not looking at the trailers (it's hard not to) because I bought the DVD and I'm saving myself for it. I never saw any of the episodes on TV. The DVD is something to look forward to.
Whose clips are awesome John.
I can really tell by the speed of the characters in a exiding moment.
John, I was wondering, How do you get ideas for your cartoons?
Do you try to find something that's never been done before and do it, something that totally ticks you off and make a story out of it, something in every day life or think of the craziest / dryist thing in the work or.........
Come to my website or my blog sometime.
http://muppetpro.tripod.com/ericworksinc/
http://ericcrooks.tripod.com
and tell me what you think of it.
Thanks John,
_Eric :)
Yes!!! This is so creative :-D. Can't wait to see the DVD.
Hey thanks for all the great comments!
The "subtle" scenes are the ones where Stimpy is trying to tell Ren that he's pregnant. There are a lot of very specific expressions and poses and slight changes within them.
There's another clip from that scene in an earlier post.
Search in Blogger for "Stimpy's Pregnant" or "lost episodes".
YYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
More Trailers!!
"There are a lot of very specific expressions and poses and slight changes within them."
What was your thinking behind each of those? Can you remember? How did you go about deciding that the bottom of the eye should change just this much when he says this word or between this and this, etc? That'd be fascinating to hear!
John! You're coming to Ottawa? I'll be looking for you. :P
Great trailer (even with those interlacing thingies), i hope the dvd comes out soon. I also hope to be able to afford it.
hey, John, who drew THIS? I love this cartoon, and I particularly like this pose. I don't know why, I think it's something about her mouth...
>>hey, John, who drew THIS?<<
I'm not totally sure, probably Gabe Swarr. He and I did the layout poses in that cartoon, but he may have had help.
"The "subtle" scenes are the ones where Stimpy is trying to tell Ren that he's pregnant. There are a lot of very specific expressions and poses and slight changes within them"
I guess you can call that subtle using the term loosely, but I get your point. Once again, I am always impressed by your lively cartoons and I will picking up this DVD on July 18th.
HELL YES I WANT TO SEE MORE. MORE! MORE!! MORE!!!! MORE, MAN, MORE!!!!!!
John,
It almosted seemed like Ren & Stimpy had fully developed in season 2, Although in APC, they're givin a new look.
Someone last year at my high school tought that It was done by a new guy.
I'm not putting the more advanced look down, but since then until now, What made you deside to change the look of Ren & Stimpy?
_Eric
Hey Gabriel, that Jetsons cartoon "The Best Son" is one of my favorites too! There are so many hilarious drawings in that cartoon.
It's no Family Guy, but I guess it was ok.
Damn straight it was no "Family Guy"! ...
There was more acting, more fluid animation, more expression, and more MOVEMENT in this one little clip then the entire series of FG.
Probably more drawings, too.
POST MORE TRAILERS GUYS!!
please.
"There was more acting, more fluid animation, more expression, and more MOVEMENT in this one little clip then the entire series of FG"
I remember looking at a model sheet for Stewie,At most they were two expressions that differ.
That fish coming out of Stimpy's water is hilarious!
fucking hysterical! ren with a shotgun is something i want to see more of. can't wait to buy the dvd!!
Hey John
do you know if the ren and stimpy dvds are getting released in Mexico? and if any version is going to have the dub they used in mexican television?
JohnK said...

Hey John, How many Hannah/Barbera cartoons have you done? and how can I see them?
-Ollie
WOW!!!!! Truly great, high quality, well orchestrated material here. This episode is way too good to be on television...it should be in movie theatres.
How you and your animation crew are able to continually think up new and exciting poses and facial expressions is a wonderful mystery to me.
This is just my personal taste; I'm not trying to start a flame war from John loyalists. I hope we can rationally talk about these ideas and learn from each other’s opinions rather than getting defensive. If you don't agree with me, help me understand what I might be missing. We can all learn from civil discourse. John is doing a brilliant job of explaining why the Warner's cartoons worked, I'd love to here about the evolution on the old Ren and Stimpy and how they relate to the new.
So the the posted Stimpy's pregnant. The Staccato timing of the first bed bit feels a little fast and even to me.
Everything – has – an – even –rhythm – giving- a – hyphenated- effect- to- the- action.
I’d like to see more pauses, cushions, and slow ins and outs… Like the original R and S. If you have great expressions why not show them long enough to have them register? The bugs getting hit with barf is hurt because we don’t have a moment to revel in their romantic moment, no time for tension.
More is not always more. Less can be more. Contrast vs. even rhythm. Example: I think the jokes in the chase seen are a little forced over the top, but find the timing in that context to be justified, even brilliant, because of the action and violence. However placing that scene side by side with the opening softens it’s impact as they both have fast timing.
I also see a few swipes form Big House Blues and elsewhere and don’t care for the new big man body on Ren. The small body on the original Ren makes him impotent and cute when he rages. In this contest he’s truly menacing and not as funny.

I think those are all good points. Especially considering what John first laughed at was this little menacing chihuahua(sp!?!) in a sweater. Also, agree on the animation, though I'm sure budget plays a part in how he chose to do the animation.
Definitely a good post, I'd like to hear other people's thoughts on this instead of ending this post's conversation here.
I really enjoyed the new cartoon. Looking forward to the DVD.
really funny stuff, john. can't wait for the DVD!!!
O.K. I get it. You (and a handful of colleagues)are the only one(s) alive today who know how to make cartoons the way they're supposed to be made. Everyone else today makes crap but they're wildly successful. You make great stuff, can't sell it and wonder why.
Have I nailed the story so far.
I agree with Bill about Ren's body. He was way funnier when he had a REALLY big head and a TINY body.
Loved the car scene. Not so sure about some other stuff, though. I still find it could be a little more subtle in some parts. But it seems pretty good overall. I'll admit the gag with Stimpy's boobs is funny even if it's weird to see Stimpy like that. Better than Onward and Upward and Firedogs 2 for sure. I'm not sure if better than Ren Seeks Help.

Actually, what you've done is miss the point entirely, put your own biased, personal spin on it, and havn't even come close. You're also putting words in other people's mouth, and you sound like a rude asshole, to boot.
Thanks for your intrest, though.
Uh...Bill, you're looking at a trailer. The scenes are purposely cut together out of context, and without the pauses.
But timing has always been a tough thing for me anyway. I wasn't trained as a classic animator and have to figure everything out from scratch.
I wish I could time like Clampett or Jones. Maybe you can teach me.
Personally I like the timing. I prefer this snappy "musical" timing over the timing on, say, Naked Beach or Sven Hoek. On the latter two, it seems some gags are either left on the screen long enough for a laugh track or repeated 3 times when one-and-a-half would suffice.

That's to bad, it gives the wrong impression then. I'd rather see short bits that are as you intended.
>
If I do more, I will experiment with a more "cartoony" Milt Gross kinda look.
Yeah, and bring back his tiny body. I don't see that anymore.
John, if I worked at Spumco, would I be allowed to say, draw Ren like in the model sheet for "Your Gang" and a tail on my scenes? Hypothetically. How off model do you let the artists go? Could Stimpy also have a tail and?
Also, how come Bill and John's exchanges have so much animosity. It's none of my business, but since it's on a public blog I'd prefer if they tore each other to shreds instead of beating around the bush like pussies.
R there more clips? I would like to see clips of all of the episodes if pssible. Does Eric Bauza have a blog?
Hey Jorge,
I agree with Bill, we are just discussing, not dissing.
d
STIMPY HAS NICE TITS!
i agree with john
every post JORGE has ever posted was with the intention of starting shit.
Jorge, quit bein an asshole.
go get laid or something. Or zone out and stare at stimpys tits for a while..maybe youll calm down bud.
Sometimes, there's a-holes on BOTH sides of the argument!
> I agree with Bill, we are just discussing, not dissing <
I detected animosity there, actually mostly from Bill, but I could have been imagining it. Sorry, Bill!
To anonymous: What is your name? I'm not trying to start anything, I was giving my honest assesment of their exchange.
I'm seeing alot of really quick facial expessions here, in the scene where Ren tells Stimpy he's with child. Flashes of facial expessions indicating the characters' feelings that are changing really really quickly. To me, that's what animation is all about. I also love those little secondary actions that they do. I'm hope this was sustained for two half hours, though (Well, 2 twenty minutes episodes) DVD in one month!
Who are you to give an "assesment" of their exchange?
Hey, why are we picking on Jorge?
He's actually posted some of the most observant posts-on the old cartoons too, not just mine.
You're ok Jorge-one of the good ones!
While I'm thrilled that Ren & Stimpy have returned to me, I must get something off my chest.
Maybe it's because I havent seen them since I was like 10, but there's just something iffy about seeing Ren and Stimpy with sexual desires.
I always assumed there was no room for sex in the Ren & Stimpy universe, not in such an explicit way.
The problem is: subtlety. I dont mind sexual innuendo but I'm not sure what to think of seeing Ren with an erection. I guess it adds to their personality. But for me, personally, a bit of the cartoons world has collapsed, to make way for this "new" Ren and Stimpy.
I remember watching "Ren seeks help" tho, which was also a lot more crude, but I didnt mind because it was like a "Late night" edition =).
I guess it's like that huh?
I can live with it.
I did an essay about how Ren & Stimpy are the greatest cartoon characters ever because of many reasons and I still stand by it.
cheers.
Crap I didnt see the APC mentioning.
Scratch everything I said.

Thanks, John! I wanna do some video commentaries like on Thad's site later on so my observations will be there. You should do some.
my nose started bleeding and I began to urinate in my chonees- (slang for undies)- I F#@K'N LOVE THIS SH!T !!!!!!!!
Some bastard took this down!
