Holy Crap-The Lost Episodes Are Out!

For those of you who still think I don't like sitcoms...
Here's a clip of super subtle sit-com acting from Stimpy's Pregnant. -punctuated with stuff that could only happen in cartoons of course, for that is my way.

This kind of stuff is inspired by REAL sitcoms, like The Honeymooners, All In The Family and I Love Lucy.

Here's a review of the whole set too!

Hey, if you already have the set, be sure to write a review at the Amazon link, ok?

Thanks loads!

Well.. it's not quite out just yet for everyone.

Still 2 days to go for me. A lot of people ordered it online, but I can't get it that way, and I have to wait until it hits stores in 2 days for July 18th.

But I sure as hell will buy it. Can't wait for the damn thing.

I actually wrote a review on Amazon (Hint: It's one of the good reviews that dosn't look like a total moron wrote it.)

I agree that Amazon.com needs good, well meaning, thoughtful reviews. Lord knows Amazon.com has so few of them.

80% of the reviews they get on just about everything are from some of the most remedial bunch of grade-school drop outs you'd ever want to NOT meet.

So yes.. everyone PLEASE write a good review for this set.

And by that, I mean a review that is intellgent, and actually has some merit in it. Not by the typical emo 8-year old "Linkin Park" fan club crew that you usually see reviews from, which are filled to the brim with more grammatical bastardizations and caps lock overuse than anyone should have to read in their lifetime.

Each good review that actually is written by, at least a semi-intlligent member of society (who don't happen to think that Nelly and 50 Cent are the pinnicle of modern evolutionary progress) is a victory not only for the DVD sales, but a small victory for common sense, everywhere. ;)

Write reviews, buy the set, do what you can. Then again.. it's not like i'm asking much with that. Basically what i'm really saying is "Have an I.Q over 27 when posting on Amazon."

Oh.. and enjoy the set! WOO HOO!

Compare it to absolutely anything out there in terms of cartoon acting, and super subtle might be an understatement. There are more emotions and expressions and poses in this clip than most cartoon shows have in their entire lifespans.

My DVD has been shipped and is on it's way. I can't wait! I'm going to write a big kind review about it too!

Thanks for creating my most favorite show of all time, John!

As for the DVD, mine arrived the other day. Stimpy's Pregnant is definitely my favourite probably followed by Firedogs 2. I'm really hungry for more now so hopefully these'll sell well.

Have you seen Louis CK's new sitcom, Lucky Louie? It's like The Honeymooners except it's on HBO so it has sex scenes and cursing and such.

Also, is there any chance the Lost Episodes will be released in the UK ?

when people complain about modern cartoons they often bring up the argument that they're too verbal, call them 'animated radio', etc. Well, it doesn't always have to be that way. Here we have a big dialog scene that manages to be cartoony. The same goes for the jetsons flash episode The best son (an unsung gem, in my opinion). John, you could talk more about how to animate dialog and not make it boring. You're pretty much the only person around that tries to put more stuff happening than the character's mouths moving.

I preordered mine months ago, and if it is out, mine hasn't shipped yet.

I like the ending of the scene...well, all after Ren's changes of color. The dark gag with the hanger works pretty good actually, it's really fast.

There is something about the scene that doesn't work so well for me, though, something about the pacing before that, but anyway there are some good expressions and dialogue.

hey, john, can you please tell us about the Ultimate Ren and Stimpy collection that contains everything R and S have been in, including adult party r & s. i really think you deserve tons of money from us, but i really hate it when new versions of something are released every six months.

i'd rather buy two copies of adult party ren and stimpy on purpose rather than be duped into doing it. maybe you could tell us about what different content will be on the ultimate collection than on what you have already released? and maybe you could give us an estimate on the price and release date for the ultimate set?

Then I’ll be on to something else, and they’ll forget about it. Only later, when they’re walking home, they’ll say, ‘Wait a second! I saw something really hideous in there.’”

Are you talking about the part where Ren whips out the coathanger? I love how deliciously evil Ren Hoek can be!

Which one of your character is more of an evil fiend? Dirty Dog or Ren Hoek? My vote's with Dirty Dog.

Here's a couple of scenes from Lucky Louie, they're not ideal but they're the best YouTube has to offer. You really have to see a whole episode to judge it properly (it's on tonight at 10.30 on HBO)
Clip 1
Clip 2
It's certainly not as good as good as The Honeymooners or All in the Family but I think it's one of the funniest and most honest things on TV right not. You should also check out the Louie CK stand-up clips on YouTube, he's easily the best stand-up in the world right now.

John, you could talk more about how to animate dialog and not make it boring. You're pretty much the only person around that tries to put more stuff happening than the character's mouths moving.

I'll contribute a few ideas: DO SOMETHING. Stop using dialogue as an excuse for not doing anything. And, when you DO do something, make it relate to the characters and the emotions of the scene, and if doing all that means you can't do 26 episodes in 20 minutes and then go golfing on Maui for the rest of the year, too fucking bad. Earn a living like the rest of us.

By what standard does APC not look very good? What looks better? That should be an interesting response... John's writing works fine for anyone who has not been brainwashed into thinking that a cartoon can't be built on semi-surreal nonsense. Nice clip, John, but the the pixels are all fuzzy, making it hard to see the wonderful animation. YouTube is such a drag!

I 'dunno what you thought, but my opinion of Lucky Louie was that it was one the most ear- numbing experiences I've ever had before! It should've been called "Sucky Louie"! Good riddens, even the DIALOGUE in modern shows sucks!

You see, ladies and gentlemen, sitcoms and other shows that are advertised with the most anticipation and entertainment reviewer- praise usually wid up being worse than ones with little or no advertising. Look how many shitty shows there are out there, and you'll see that most, if not all, only last(ed) one or two seasons, or three if they're generous. Nobody seems to have any good ideas anymore, because they don’t give themselves enough time to work on better ones. It’s embarrassing! Everything is rushed in to production, so the execs can make more money!

Anyways, I got more laughs out of "Finger Force" than this shit!

Aqua Teen: Hunger Force is just another one of these "critically acclaimed" pieces of trash that gets hailed by the likes of Entertainment Weekly and Roger Ebert.

"KarmaRocketX - You are a total snob. What makes you think your opinion is more valid than anyone else's?"

I never actually implicitly said that, did I? Wanna show me where I actually said that? Good luck finding it without making another stupid generalization that comes out of nowhere. But, if you want to go searching very hard for things that I didn't actually say, go ahead and be my guest.

But.. if you would like me to answer the question anyway, here goes.

What makes MY opinion more valid than the opinion of some others is that I actually have the basis to make it on the grounds of intellgence, and informed observation. Some people.. don't. People like you. That is why some opinions are valid (like mine) and some are not. (like yours)

Are we clear on this, or would you like me to repeat it again using words that are easier for you to comprehend and not twist into your own assumtpive exaggeration the way you did.

Although, what I humbly suggest that you do, is to probably go ahead and realize that your opinion of me is just as valid. Actually..... Yours is MUCH less so, because you didn't explain why you think so, and you assumed something I never said. You get no points.

So, if you want to make yourself look like any more of a total hypocrite and/or foolish human being, please.. I urge you to say something else. Go ahead. I need another great laugh today, at the expence of someone humorous like you.

Oh.. and by the way... My post was actually funny. (which you totally missed the point of. You're a real smart one, for getting that, aren't you?)

Y'know... Just as this one is even funnier for showing you up and making you look stupider for going ahead and talking about me like you actually know somethign about me. Laughable, isn't it?

Get a sense of humor, jackass. And with the spare change, buy yourself a life. a-thank you. *bows*

I think you have a good point there KarmaRocketx (although you could have expressed it in a way that made you sound like less of an asshole).

The "all opinions have to be respected" argument gets thrown around alot these days (I saw Bill O'Reilly use it in an interview with David Letterman recently) and I think it's bullshit. You should certainly respect everyone's right to have an opinion but that doesn't mean all opinions are valid and worthy of respect.

Hilarious. Why is it that people actually think they are entitied to an opinion, when they are actually basless opinions formed with nothing but stupidity and the complete inabilty to explain why?

Why is this?

There is a huge misconception among idiots (Much like the idiot I've had to repsond to earlier) about which people are entitled to an opinion and which aren't.

No... everyone is NOT entitled to their own opinion. That's right. That's exactly what I said.

There are people out there, that cannot explain themselves, cannot back themselves up, have no point, and purely base their juvanile, misinformed opinions on their assumption that they deserve to have one, even though they exihbit the social graces and the brain power of a water flea.

Both the foolish nubhead i've adressed before, and this waste of humanity with his laughable opinion.. they do not deserve to have opinions.

Simply put, if you cannot back up your opinion, and if your opion is one of open ignroance.. like the two i've adressed already..

Then they do not deserve to have one.

Let's get it right. All people are NOT created equal. THere are people out there with the power of reason.....

And then there are morons like this. So please.... morons of the world. Stop acting like your opinion counts or like you even deserve to have one.

You make us decent folk with GOOD opinions and common sense look bad for stating opinions that we DESERVE to have.

That is why, even though I sound cocky for saying this, I know that becuase I back opinions up, form them with reason, and can actually explain them, that.. quite frankly... I don't care how cocky it sounds. My opinion IS better and it IS more valid becuase I can back it up, and so many other people cannot.

Everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses. I'm strong at debate, and in all of the years i've been doing it, i've hardly ever lost. And I know enough to realize that there are so many stupid people out there with halfwit opinions that just don't measure up to mine, for instance.

There IS a such thing as compare and contrast. I don't care if I sound like i'm full of myself. I have a right to be, when I know that whatever I say has common sense behind it. THerefore, I honestly laugh at.. and point out when people don't.

I look at stupidity, and idiotic comments on the internet nd I shove them right back down the throat of people who aren't as informed as I am. It's a hobby.. and someone needs to do it, otherwise stupidity on the internet grows.

It's cocky, it's a bit full of myself, but at the end of the day, Pfft. Well, I'm right, anyway.

I mean.. just look at this comment.

"John your cartoons suck so bad.

Quit trying to be edgy and work on your writing.

APC doesnt even look very good so you have bad animation and bad writing.""

Oh yes.. I'm so sure that hurts John's feelings. Your asanine observations which you just made up, and that you didn't explain. I'm sure that really gets to him?

What kind of an idiot 8 year old are you? You actually shame everyone else in your age bracket just for BEING such a silly, simple moron.

It's funny how.. like I said, no one backs up what they say. They know they look like an idiot becuase of it, and don't even care. This crap shames themselves, and no one buys it.

This... this, ladies and gentlemen.. is the shining example of what i'm talking about.

That simply put, some people do NOT deserve.. to have their own opinions. It's just a fact.

I don't care who has a problem with me saying it like it is.. It's just a damn fact. Stupid people do not deserve to have opinions. I hope that finally sinks with some people, for ONCE.

Hey John, I've only watched Naked Beach Frenzy and all the bonus stuff after that episode so far.

My favorite part is when the girls on the beach are fighting over Stimpy. That part where the girl with black hair is biting her bottom lip when she punches the other girl in the boob is so funny.

I also think it's funny, when Ren gets mad and goes ''no pet me, i'm the cat'' and then he starts scratching that girls legs. I don't know why that's so funny but it just is. :D

Oh yeah, i also found the two easter eggs on the first disc. I love what happens when you find them. That dance that Ren's doing is great.

Also, the art on the box and on the discs is really nice. Was that all drawn by you?

The only bad thing i'll say is that the box it comes in has those annoying little clips that're the most pointless invention ever. I hate those things.

I finally found the hiddin commentary with George Liquor and Ren & Stimpy on the Season 5 and more of 4 DVD set. It was cool even if it was a half of a commentary. George was funny and R & S were cool too. But anyway back to the Lost Episodes DVD! I can not wait for this DVD!!!!!!! It's getting closer to TUESDAY!!!!!!

"OH JOY OF JOYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I wish people would stop complaining about the "Onward & Upward" episode. It is a classic. Also the episode was inspired by some fan mail that John got during the Nickelodeon years. If some people here think that R & S should not be gay go watch "Stimpy's First Fart" and tell me you don't see a gay side from Ren in the miseltoe scene. But anyway this DVD is going to be the BIGGEST DVD release of the year!!

John,

I think Ren's "acting" is alright, his expressions seem to fit pretty good with the dialogue and mood of the scene.

Stimpy seems way off throughout. Everything from his construction to "acting" to especially his timing. And he really just acts 100% retarded, to the point where its distracting to the scene as a whole.

I don't know if you agree with the whole "golden pose" concept, but at least applying that a little bit to R & S would improve your new cartoons. I really don't see any difference between your "subtle" and "extreme" scenes.

Some scenes seem to have just a bunch of random poses. Your older episodes would have poses that were confident and meant a lot to what was going on and the story. Here, the poses drawn for Stimpy seem unsure. Where Stimpy has 3 or 4 weak poses, you could've put in one strong idea.

I know you talk a lot about "poses per second" or "jokes per minute," but its really in the quality of it all and how well it communicates. I remember you did a subtle scene in Stimpy's first fart that really hit me, and had great acting. It was where Ren was trying to cheer Stimpy up, even pulling out a little toy mouse.

I've read and studied what you say about all these Clampett cartoons, and I agree completely. But one thing he really understood, that I sometimes miss in your cartoons, is contrast between the "subtle" and the "extreme." In your newer cartoons, the characters always seem on the edge of snapping, they never relax. When your subtle scenes are so crazy and extreme, where do you go for the extreme scenes? You don't leave yourself much room when the character REALLY needs to be broad and extreme.

I hope the crit was helpful. You seem humble enough to crit your own stuff, so what would you fix in some of your newer cartoons?

Now with all that said, I can't wait for amazon to send me my DVD! From the clips I've seen, it looks like there's going to be some really good stuff too.

You can tell that from one scene?
Try watching a few cartoons. They are full of contrasts.

More than anyone else's today.

If you still don't like them, that's different.

Most people I show them to laugh non stop, so something is working.

Hi John

"YOUR CARTOONS RULE!!!!!!!!!"

QUESTION:

When you did the R & S episode "Onward & Upward" how did you feel about putting in pure primary yellow in the back ground?

I know it was supposed to be yellow because they were living in a sitoon but I also know that you hate pure primary colors in cartoons.

It's supposed to be gold. It's not pure yellow anyway...

Speaking of old sitcoms, I recently picked up the Sgt. Bilko dvd. Of course, I mean the original TV episodes and not that terrible movie. I saw some episodes on the Canadian Comedy Network almost 10 years ago and thought they were great. So well written, and Phil Silvers was a once-in-a-lifetime talent. Truly an amazing show. We also see the first TV apearances of a young Alan Alda and Julie Newmar almost a decade before she became known as Catwoman.

I highly recommend it.

I suscribe bob's criticism. Yep, that's what I didn't like about the scene but I couldn't figure out why. I think Stimpy's acting is good in the final part and I love when he starts trying to convince Ren that kepping the baby is a good idea. It's emotional in a weird way. I love the music and the poses in that part.

Don't get me wrong, I love your cartoons. They're the best stuff out there, period. I laugh my ass off on most of these clips.

I don't watch any cartoons out there today. I don't waste any time on Simpsons, South Park, etc. because those don't really entertain me. So I'm really comparing your cartoons to the cartoons from the golden age if anything.

I don't think anyone should be above a good critique, which is why I'd be happy to link you to all the animation I have on the net if you have time to give feedback.

I love it! I just got mine today.

You guys should put out like an eight disc box set of nothing but Eddie Fitzgerald telling stories and laughing. I'd buy it. That guy cracks me up almost as much as the cartoons.

I wish people would stop complaining about the "Onward & Upward" episode. It is a classic

I am sorry but that is a epiosde that will never play when I get the APC DVD,I watched it when it first came on,hated it and never saw the show again. Three years later I saw the other APC episodes and it got me interested in the show.

Hey John, can I request that you make T-shirts with the picture of those three girls running that you used for the bonus crap menu screen on Naked Beach Frenzy.

I love that picture. Did Katie draw it?

Man, Wal Mart and The Real Canadian Superstore didn't have it. I won a contest to get the dvd for free but I want to buy a few to give away as gifts. This is the best gift idea for anyone who's into adult cartoons. Tell them it's like Family Guy or South Park and that they'll really love it, but buy them now and give them away later!

I just noticed a continuity error. At first Ren has a sweater on, and in the next frame it's gone, and remains gone for the rest of the clip. I didn't even notice at first, though.

Well John,I have seen two out of three lost epiosdes and I am impressed. "Stimpy's pregnant" was an interesting story and the pacing was well done, my favorite scene was when Ren and the police offcier was shooting at people on the highway to get to the hopsital. For lovr of God, put "make way for life" on t-shirts me and my friend can't stop saying it ! The onyt thing that disapointed me about that episode was the entire "Ren sitting down and stimpy doing all the work" thing,it was fairly humorous but it ran too long to point of being un-funny. "Artuist" was a good story, there were some very nice gags at the begining and in the middle, unfortunetly it draggged.Just after Ren kncoked out the Duck, the cartoon simply wnet om auto-piolet until the scene were Stimpy was building the roof, then it dragged and pretty much crashed at the end.Overall, I enjoyed myself and I anticipate more R$S cratoons on DVD.
