We go waaaay back to Filmation studios making the worst cartoons ever! Then we made a Smurfs Goddamn Christmas special where Gargamel ate up all the little blue tidbits and pooed out a big blue Yuletide dump, directed by Gerard Genius Baldwin.
Chris taught himself to sculpt just for fun. He used to make sculptures of cartoon charcters that he would like to own, but weren't being manufactured-like Joe Rockhead. He also used to take my characters and make really great sculpts of them. I'll show you some of them next time we visit Chris' toy heaven.
I'm working with him to create new lines of toys, not only with my characters but with famous cartoon-like live action stars!

Here is Chris' beautiful and gracious assistant, Derek. He puts the blobs together to make the basic construction of the handsome toys and then Chris takes his perfect wet fingers and smooths out all the tasty details for you.
Oh and here is a nice family that I drew at the San Francisco show. Dad's camera screwed up, so I offered to take this picture and a couple others for him.
Here are Jim's kids, Eric and Caroline who are decent American kids who love cartoons!
Hey Jim, put up the drawings I did for you, so I can link to them!

John K's JB and KG toys! What joy!
John, are these Tenacious D toys? If so, sign me up!
- Eric A.
Holy Crap! I thought Chris did the George and Jimmy plush sculpts but I checked... it was Jim McPherson. These dolls look beautiful in a manly way!
Are the odds pretty good these will make it to stores or are you still presenting the concepts?
Brian
thats just awesome Jk !!!
WOWEEEEEE!!!You HAVE to bring out a Ralph Bakshi Firedogs2 toy! And all the chicks from Naked Beach Frenzy!!!
I love where the Kyle Gass on is going, that's awesome. I agree on the naked beach frenzy idea, Adam B... nyuk nyuk...
grat stuff, hope to see them finished. hey john do you know what material they use to sculp? and is there a site or blog to visit with more of they awsome work?
tahnks
That's a very good Jack Black.
Chris Peterson! just like the main character in the tv series "Get a Life"! one of my heroes...
mendi
I'm guessing he wasn't responsible for those crappy Ren & Stimpy action figures a while back? I mean, the yak one was cool, but R & S themselves looked like crap!

Someday, I hope you'll break down and let me interview you about those years. I watched "Disco Droopy" again and it looks more and more like you drew that terrific line-up of anthropomorphic girls.
In any case, a Ralph Bakshi doll/figure would definitely be purchased by moi. I'd put him with my Mighty Mouse toys from Wendy's, and my George and Jimmy dolls. Oh, and my "Ask Dr. Stupid" figurine.
John, How much will this line of toys cost?
And will they be available in stores or in an underground website?
Thanks!
That's very fasinating John.
As a collector, I like to see quality like that. Those are probably my favorite kinds of collectibles are the hard rubber heads or heads and bodys that look very close to the character.
Very Nice.
I would like to learn how Chris does this. I've done simular murchandise sculpture ideas before.
Tell Chris to email me @ dianne_clark@sbcglobal.net
Thanks John,
This is one great blog, let me tell ya. I think the best part about it is you get to hang out with a REAL CARTOONIST, The Ren & Stimpy Creator.
_Eric C.
These are some very fine sculptures of Tenacious D. I'm jealous of great, talented sculptors like Chris Peterson.
I agree with Tim Kelly's and Adam B's idea of a Ralph Bakshi sculpture/action figure. Perhaps Ralph Bakshi in the lineup of 'Chia Pet' sculptures.

John, did you do anything remotely enjoyable during the 80's or was evry single bit of it complete hell?
"John, did you do anything remotely enjoyable during the 80's or was evry single bit of it complete hell?"
I enjoyed doing The Jetsons, and believe it or not, Heathcliff.
Hey John,
I probably going to bug you about this but, what do you think of Ed Edd N Eddy and the creator Danny?
Have you seen Lupo The Butcher?
I think you should team up with this guy.
_Eric
haha, these toys are looking great. The wonky shape of kyle's head is dead on!
These are some sick toy sculpts! I'd like to see a Cigarettes the Cat statue!
>I enjoyed doing The Jetsons, and believe it or not, Heathcliff.
I bet it's cause you met Mel Blanc, right?!
JetSON!!!
Does anyone remember that episode of The Jetsons where the kid is watching The Flintstones on his watch? That is now possible, they're putting both series out on iPods and cellphones now!
Great sketch and great sculpting!
If there was a chia-Ralph Bakshi doll would you shave him? The doll would also smoke cigarettes and punch you when you pull the string.
>>Are the odds pretty good these will make it to stores or are you still presenting the concepts?<<
Hey Brian!
Oh yeah, it's a done deal.
They will be very retro-only painted on the front and everything!

Jorge, that episode was Elroy's Mob from the original one season in 1962-63. Actually, it was the final episode.
"John K.'s Butt-Nakeds"
-I love it! Do you have more people in mind?
Yeah Lori,
you!
You should make an Eddie sculpture!
i would love an eddie doll
>They will be very retro-only painted on the front and everything!
Are they wood or metal?
It's a done deal! Fantastic!
I can't wait to see the packaging. I love it when you have the freedom to design it. It never disappoints. It's as fun as the product within!
Nobody believe me? Check out the Flintstones season one laserdisc set, the Palmer paint sets, the George and Jimmy plush boxes, the Lost Episodes DVD... even the plush Stooges had tags that were amusing!
I'm really curious what "retro-painted on the front" means.
Please keep us informed so we know how to get these new toys!
Brian
awesome!
i feel stoopid asking this ... is he sculpting jack black?
Totally rad!
Spumco+Tenacious D=happy fans everywhere.
hahaha. John cant dress himself. hahahaha
Are these figures going to be released in conjunction with the new D film? If the figures are in the early stages, maybe in time for the DVD release? Also, they look about 12" tall. Is that just for the models sake, or will they be smaller when mass produced.
This is a dream come true. I love John K and I love the D, to have a fusion of the two is a cream dream.

yes to the movie release. The toys will be about 11" tall
Flintstone Knickerbocker size and style.
How much money will I have to shell out for these goodies?
Where can I get licensed to sell these great dolls.
I wanna make some! What kind of clay does he use?
I saw these on display with a fresh coat of color at the thunderdog/strangeco party at showroom nyc. they looked pretty good- cery descriptive and animated features which are typically simplified within the art vinyl world, so it was a fresh interpretation to see these as such.
