Buy some crap! (please)

BY THE WAY, SEND ME A PIC OF YOU WEARING YOUR NEW ITEM AND I MIGHT USE IT IN MY NEXT AD!

There's no sincerer expression of love than cash. Yes, green is the universal color of love.

Here's your chance, all 172 of you to show your appreciation for cartoony cartoons and this ornery blog. Crabapples, like love, are also green, so buy a shirt or a mug and keep spreading the message of cartooniness.

I know, it's not the greatest quality ever-it's Cafe Press for cryin' out loud, but at least you get to show off some your favorite cartoons characters to the unwashed masses!

If this stuff sells well enough, I'll make some t-shirts and stuff myself and offer them directly to you.

Thanks loads!

Your pal,

John

What about a Sody Pop shirt for men? That's what all real men need! I wanna Sody Pop ringer-t! (goddamnit!)

Hey John!

Just bought the He-Hog tee shirt.
Way cool! Just curious did you design the old ren and stimpy tee shirts back in the 90's? The one I have is one of the black ones. I'd buy more shirts if they where black. Or one with the color scheme of the adult party cartoons. Slate blue-gray or olive green. With Mr. Horse dressed in his rubber suit saying "got walrus protectors?" in stead of "got milk?" But, you already know what's cool.

How about a Paypal based tip jar? It cuts out the Cafepress middleman for people who don't really want any of the combinations of art and clothing/item styles but who want to keep your spirits up...

COOOL, thanks for adding the new designs. And just in time for Kawanza! it looks like your old designs disappeared, are you discontinuing those ones? any chance of a Kaspar the unfriendly bear t shirt??? also i remember you talking about designing a Tenacious D Tshirt, is that still happening, and if so, do you know where is that going to be sold?

I just ordered the Sody Pop blue shirt, because she's so pretty. I can't wait to show it off to my colleagues. I hope this helps! :)

Please make colorful He-Hog ringers for dudes. I'm fine with it being pink I just want it to fit my man body. I also want that Sody Pop Jr. Raglan but goddammit!

I'll probably get that George Liquor Tee but I wish it was something other than white.

I'll get one... I'm just trying to decide which one to buy!

Max Ward said...

Nice! I'll get some stuff first thing in the morning. I bought one of your shirts from cafepress one time and the quality is just fine.

Shawn said...

Yeah, buy some crap!

I bought one of John's shirts a while ago, and it's great! I'll probably get another one. Probably a mug too. The quality of Cafe Press isn't THAT bad! I've washed my shirt lots of times and it still looks great!...And it's got the BEST characters on it too! No more excuses. Don't be a cheap bastard. Support your favorite cartoonists! Or else!

Good idea, Steve. I have some super sexy drawings of her. I'll get Marc to put one up.

I wish Cafe Press had a better range of shirts and colors!

How about a Cigarettes the Cat T-shirt? It's such a neat drawing!

Jeff Pidgeon said...

Also, you might want to take a look at Zazzle.com. They have a pretty good variety of shirts (but not as many other items).

Their site allows the purchaser to pick the shirt style, color, as well as to size and position the art.

I think their stuff might be better quality, too. I've been thinking about moving my store there myself.

Spreadshirt is another good site for custom design T-shirts (http://www.spreadshirt.com/)

I'm not sure of the quality but Meathaus (www.meathaus.com) used them for their recent T-shirts so that must lend Spreadshirt some cred!

I dunno, John. Maybe if you printed these characters on a pair of baggy pants then maybe I'd buy them.

You've gotta introduce a Pee Boner line. Silkscreen drawings onto boxer shorts and strategically place the hole. The world will be sated, or at least moist.

i bought a sody pop shirt waaaaaay back when you first had your cafepress shop. it lasted me quite a while. i remember my supervisor at work would always tell me it was his favorite shirt, which scared me on all kinds of levels. anywho, i wore that thing till the sleeves fell off. imma get a mug this time around and maybe a he-hog shirt.

Josh "Just What the Doctor Ordered" Heisie said...

I'll do my darndest. The reason I didn't buy any of the last ones is because I really didn't like them. The two George Liquor ones are great, though! What ever happened to the Tenacious D t-shirt idea?

Jennifer said...

Hi John,

I bought a Sody long sleeve t-shirt, a He-hog sweatshirt, and a He-hog coaster. I'm going to wear the t-shirt and the sweatshirt when I'm skating. I used to (and still do) get a lot of compliments when I wear your puppy t-shirt (over a long-sleeved t-shirt) when I'm practicing.

All due respect, I don't think I'll send a picture of me in the gear. I think that these young turks would rather see one of the "cartoonist cuties" who are still in their early 20s modeling the gear than some 35-year-old who's probably the same age as their mother.

To the aspiring animators and John's fans,

John is providing a wealth of information to you for free. Many people who have some means to provide a token of appreciation for a "free" site fail to do so because they often think that "someone else will do it". The things that John is offering on Cafepress are reasonably priced, and the quality of the apparel is not as bad as some people say it is. I understand if you didn't want to buy a t-shirt when he was initially selling them, but he's now offering other things, so there's no excuse. By purchasing these goods (as well as Ren and Stimpy DVDs), you are giving the execs some tangible evidence that there is a demand for his product.

Max Ward said...

Hey John, awhile ago I sent you photos of my in the George Liquor/ Jimmy/ Sody pop t shirt for an ad, do you think you might use that or do you want only the new merchandise?

I'm gonna start off with the He-Hog hoodie for Christmas.

i bought a sody pop shirt years and years ago (it looks like you don't even have that design around anymore). i don't even know where it is now. sad. it never really fit right because cafe press is le poop. i'm the sort who needs closely fitted tees. anyway, i tried, john k. i tried. i guess i just didn't try GOOD ENOUGH!

Hey, John, I've got a joke:

Why do they call them "executives"?

Because they perform "executions" on cartoons!

Drew said...

I just bought a George and Jimmy t-shirt! Finally, t-shirts that look good on me!

John, you should make boxers with Slab and Ernie all over the fabric. That's what a real teenager needs! And mabye make a the Santa George Liqour shirt for Christmas.

Jennifer, there's plenty of 30-somethings here, and I'm sure I'm not the only one here super turned on by our own 30-something partners.
Now I'm tempted to buy a thong for myself for pcitures to really give the young turks something to cry about...

Couldn't resist a deal, so I took advantage of the X-mas free shipping offer, highly recommend it. Hopefully with all the talk about colors on this blog the next batch will have fabric color schemes that match the cool designs. Cafe Press has got to add a better palette.

A good portion of my next paycheck will go to your crap, John.

This may be a silly question, but are you a Spike Jones fan?

Yay! Sody pop shirt is coming my way!

I hope the quality of the shirts improved over the years though. I planned to go with them for shirts years ago and ordered a shirt myself as a test, and I thought the fabric quality was pretty thin. Can't wait to see it!

Did you ever check out http://www.threadless.com ? I buy from them very regularly. Their shirt quality is awesome and I love a lot of the designs and I love the fact that everybody can send in designs and the vote-selection. There are some pretty creative people sending stuff in. Maybe you can make some kind of deal with the people running that thing. Might be something to think about.

I just e-mailed my Xmas list, laden with He-Hog requests, to my whole family. I almost missed the mint green He-Hog shirt because all I saw initially was the pink "He-Hog Fights Breast Cancer" model. Now my relatives can stop complaining about how they never know what to get me.

That George Liquor Infant T is BRILLIANT. And me without an infant to put it on! It's almost worth adopting that third-world orphan who's always covered in rice and flies.

I would imagine that, as mentioned above, a Tenacious D line would fly out the door. Who wouldn't love Jack Black on their thong, dressed in his Classico outfit?

More fridge magnets!

Hey Littlelamb,

it never really fit right because cafe press is le poop. i'm the sort who needs closely fitted tees.

I don't know what manufacturer made your other T-shirt, but according to the photos, Cafe Press is using those American Apparel baby T's, which are absolutely microscopic. (Note all the modestly-endowed model girls.) I have a bunch of that brand from when I was making idiotic T-shirts for my own pleasure, and they are SNUG. I hate T-shirts that are too big, too long, too beefy, with sleeves that reach your elbows and necklines that reach your thyroid gland, so I like the American Apparel line. (I just wish they were a tad roomier for us busty gals.) They should be perfect for you.

Yeah, the colors... I wonder why they suck so much? I suspect it has to do with the nature of the iron-on they use.

New designs! I bought a George Liquor tee. Hope I see some screen printed ones soon! I'll second (third?) the Sody-for-guys motion, and move in favor of a couple more long-sleeved designs, for those of us that don't have the climatic benefits of southern California. There aren't many printed t-shirts with designs that are worth a damn, so if you come out with some new designs every now and then, I'd definitely buy some.

Hey John, I've been reading your blog for a couple of weeks now and I've really been enjoying it and learning a lot. One question about the cafepress store, as I recall, you can get mousepads from them, so if you were to put out a George Liquor mousepad I'd definetly get it!

John, sorry to get off topic here, but i was wondering what kind of colored markers that you use for your pretty colored sketches?
The lines seem very mat and perfect.
Any info you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

I use tombou brush pens to ink the lines with. Prismacolors and AP markers to color.

I wish I could paint though. Markers are kind of cheating.
