Say Hi To Steve Worth in the hospital

Steve is sick: Kali and Marlo show how much they care for his sweet ass.

Steve is a real hero in animation today. He's the guy behind the Asifa Animation Archive.
http://www.animationarchive.org/
He's building a huge library of great cartoons, comic art and illustration from the Golden Age Of cartoons and letting the public come in and look at all this cool stuff for free.

Well the poor guy is in the hospital. We saw him yesterday and he looks like he's getting better, but maybe a pile of you cartoon fans can let him know you love what he's doing and need him to come back fit and soon. Maybe you've got a cute sister for him.

Say hi on here and offer a hug or a bratwurst then go to his amazing site and say hi in his comments too!

If you hunt around his site you find some really great rare cartoon art and artists!

Here're some of my favorites, but there's tons more stuff:

http://www.animationarchive.org/2006/11/biography-carlo-vinci.html
http://www.animationarchive.org/2005/11/filmography-betty-boop-in-snow-white.html
http://www.animationarchive.org/2005/10/filmography-coal-black-and-de-sebben.html
http://www.animationarchive.org/2005/10/biography-natwick-on-iwerks.html
http://www.animationarchive.org/2006/03/media-mel-crawfords-golden-books.html

I was so excited when I took this picture, I couldn't stop shaking.
Send Steve some love! He is a giant in our field and we all need him!

And you could donate to the archive too and help Steve preserve our cartoon heritage!
https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr

Or if you're in the LA area and want help with the archive, you can volunteer some time and see fantastic cartoons while you're at it!

Awww--get better soon, Worth! I don't see how you couldn't help feeling better with such tasty eye candy--both the pulchritudinous and drawn varieties--at your bedside. But being abed (sans company) just plain stinks, I know, and all of us wish you a swift and painless recovery. Meanwhile I will pray to the cartoon gods to send you extra-pretty nurses till you're outta there.

{I'd draw you a card myself but who dares stick one in there among the likes of John, Marlo, Katie et al? -not me, uh-uh. But you're well covered already! }

John, I know this is off-topic, but am hoping you or Eddie can help identify an animator for me:

http://timkellyscartoonblog.blogspot.com/2006/11/blog-post.html

I realize that you look back on your Filmation days with disgust, but I think this is one fine moment of animation for a late 70s TV cartoon.

Oh sorry to hear that Steve is sick? What happend to him?

And that drawing is very nice, did you use air brushes and markers for that?

That was BETTER than 1970s movie quality animation! It MUST have been John's doing. Didn't Ralph Bakshi also work on these things?

Hope you make a speedy and full recovery, Steve!

No, I think Kent Butterwoth animated it. It was either Eddie or Tom Minton that storyboarded it.

What exactly is wrong with Steve? Did he get into a car accident? I hope he's not dying of AIDS.

Hi John,
Please tell Steve hello and I hope he gets better soon.I wanted to let you know I recived a nice email from Art Lozzi with regard to the comment i made about the BG color stuff you posted. I work with a guy named Don Watson (maybe you know him?) who worked with Art at HB in those days, so I hooked them up. See? Your blog is doing other good things you dont even know about! Happy Holidays.

Steve!! What the hell happened?!?
From this artist's rendering you appear to be covered in sexy cartoonist babes! What horrible sickness must this be?! And how do I become afflicted??!?

At least they got the thermometer in the right end.

Get well soon, buddy - I was looking forward to another educational night out at the Coral.

jorge,

Ralph Bakshi was not involved in Filmation's Mighty Mouse series. This error happens frequently because the titles of the 1980 series and the later one are annoyingly similar:

"The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse" : Filmation, 1980

"Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures": Bakshi, 1987

Paul the Spud said...

Feel better, Steve... we need you!

Vanoni! said...

Geez - after further review - is Mike sick too?
Maybe I DON'T want to go back to the Coral.

Or does he just do suppositories for fun and sport?

Those are some excellent drawings, though.
Maybe I'll just get a little sick.

Thanks, John! Kent has confirmed that he animated it, and Eddie did the storyboard.

Not sure what ails you Steve, but could it have anything to do with MAGIC MARKER FUME INHALATION?! Phew-wee! Somebody crack open a window!!

Anyway, get well soon.

So much happens when I go out of town. This is late but I hope you are home now and ready to head back to the archive, Steve. The archive is not complete without you there.

They finally removed the toxic chemical NAPTHA from magic markers sometime in the late 80's/early 90's. Repeated inhalation of that stuff in non-ventilated areas was capable, according to the National Poison Control Center, of causing spinal damage.

Anonymous said...

Wow, Steve. We was wondering what happened to you at the Archive last Saturday, and now here on John K's blog I find the answer. Get better fast . . . we have a big ol' pile of cartoons to digitize!

Stephen Worth said...

Thanks for the good wishes everyone! My brother printed out all your comments and brought them to me, and it made me feel a whole lot better. I'm home, recouperating and getting back my strength. I'll be back at the archive soon.

thanks again to all my pals

Oh my. It looks like I may be too late to the game. But gee Steve, I hope you take the time you need to heal. Don't rush yourself back. We want you back 100%!

Steve...

I just heard about this today. I'm glad you're back at home but I got a major scare before I scrolled down through the comments.

Feel better, dude. You are a national treasure. Every Cartoon Geek worth their weight in 35MM film reels owes you a huge debt for your work with the Archive.
