John, I have to say you have the best site if you want to learn about animation. I save every single pic from this blog to my hard drive for resources. It's the only site about animation that I actually find useful. I gratefully bow down to you. Like many people know better I want to see real cartoons back on tv
I talked to my little niece yesterday and she didn't even knew bugs bunny or tom & jerrt,... Wich kinda blew me away to realise that she will grow up watching flat, manga styled crap and no real cartoons cause they just don't show them anymore over here
Ps: What are your thoughts on Al Hirschfield. Do you like his style of drawing?
they give better marks for quantity vs quality in my opinion. My friend went to art school, he's drawings are more complexe but not nearly as good compared to before he went in.
I ask because it seems like what you are teaching on here is extremely fundamental, what students should learn as soon as they start learning, and I've never heard of composition, construction, color theory before you started teaching it.
my art teacher hated me so I never really recieved any directions. She was also more into her "high quality" artists giving them exclusive attention while ignoring the rest of us. According to her she was a famous artist, however everything I've seen of hers looked more like wallpaper you could buy from Kmart in the home improvement department.

The institution of school sucks--ESPECIALLY in art. I've had 3 art courses in my college career thus far, and all but one was a waste of time. The exception of that one class, was that the teacher had actual skill & talent and he didn't bullshit us with his critiques.
Jorge, you probably know how to play the school game, so it's a bit of a moral dilemma isn't it? :)
I had an art teach in high school. He taught us a lot about history in fine arts, as well as techniques in ceramics, pastel, acrylics, and sculpting. (I'm currently focauing on acrylics and pastels.)
He was one of my favorite teachers -- gave me something to hope for in an extremely boring school year.
I printed out the first four lessons and showed them to the students I tutor. They are invaluable to the growing artist turning into a grown-up that needs to keep a mind to his values.
Jorge, I don't think I'm alone when I say I want to see your drawings. And don't say you're not even Seth McFarlane! That's an insult I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy...

What if you're doing 50 characters? Is grouping them into three main groups and then spacing those three unevenly enough?

A good teacher will recognize quality over quantity, so I'd say put em' to the test.
