I reuploaded these images for those folks whose browsers couldn't see them...

The Chicago show was fun.
Lots of people showed up for my show Friday night and Bill's on Saturday night.
FRIDAY NIGHT - my crap
I showed a bunch of my rarer cartoons. Naked Beach Frenzy as usual won over the laps of all the men in the audience. I ended the show with 'WHAT PEE BONERS ARE FOR" for the girls, and then " THE CHILDREN'S CRUSADE" which always gets huge laughs and groans of horror.
BILL PLYMPTON
Bill showed Hair High and a new film that killed me, called Shuteye Hotel.

SATURDAY MATINEE
The Saturday Matinee had less kids than adults! But I showed a lot of classic cartoons and a 3 Stooges on the big screen and they all looked amazing! That is the way to see cartoons. They take on a whole new dimension.
After the show I asked the kids what cartoons they liked most, and one tiny little girl said "I like the one....with... the Bugs Bunny and the turtle."
That was my favorite too. Holy crap! Seeing Tortoise Wins By A Hair on the big screen was a revelation.

I'm gonna do a post later about the scene where Bugs runs into the stone wall and the other rabbits attach him.
"ORIGINAL" REN AND STIMPY
On a sobering note, I watched "Nurse Stimpy" on the huge screen too. Yikes!!! No wonder I didn't put my name on it.
Luckily we improved a few months later and made Space Madness and Stimpy's Invention which looked quite a bit better in Chicago, but still suffered by comparison with the lush and wonderful fully animated classic cartoons in the show.
After each show, Bill and I did drawings for fans. Here are some. If you were at the show too and have a drawing, put a link in the comments!

Too bad I couldn't be there. As for R&S, yeah, it did look kind of funky in the early episodes.
I was there! And here's what I got to show for it!

This is absolutely one of the best cartoons made in history-certainly the best Bugs Bunny film.
It helps that it's so freaking funny. Truer words couldn't have been spoken.
the bill film is a short? looks great
the plot in nurse stimpy is great
Bill's film is under consideration for an Oscar already? Wow! Unfortunately, the track record for nominated films released early to mid year snagging a win aren't so good. The only example I can think of is Silence of the Lambs. Most of the films that win Oscars dazzled people nearer the end of the year.
Hopefully, Mr. Plympton's film will be one of the contenders to buck the trend. Get that statuette, Bill.
Hey John! I put some goodies from Friday's show on my blog.
i was wondering why you chose to put "Raymond Spum" on Nurse Stimpy.... Anyway, thanks for the show, and here's a link to the picture you made for me: clickity-click-click
I feel so sad,
Oh well I got to see John's show once in SF, that's good enough for me. I just hope I get another chance. I'm happy for the ones who showed up though! :)
Hey John why don't you like Nurse Stimpy? I like it.

Next stop... FARGO! Right?
Tortoise Wins by a Hare is soooo goood.
Bugs' facial expressions on "HOW DOES HE DO IT?" just slay me. Hilarious.

oh man i recognized that ryan g caricature right away. good stuff. i wish i was there.
There were some little kids sitting next to me on Saturday who were giggling their asses off during Stimpy's Invention. Me, I'm a sucker for Deputy Droopy. Tex Avery can do the same gag over and over and over and over and over again and you know its coming every time but it's still hilarious! ("Boo!", "Yeouch!", Lion's roar).
I loved Friday night's programming too. That one R&S clip that showed Ren with his parents was disturbing. I can't get the image of that poor frog's mangled hand out of my head.
Thanks for coming, John!
This is my first time on your blog and really liked it!
Your Cartoons are really awesome:)
aside from Liz's, the last four pics aren't showin' up :(
Hi Naomi,
I see them there.
Try refreshing?
Hmmm...I did, still nothing. My friend can't see them on his browser either.
i don't see them either. It must be some blogger bug, i'm sure they'll show up later.
Hey, there's another gabriel posting here. Damn, if he was younger than me i'd force him to change his name...
John, someone should film you doing those drawings and put it on youtube. How long did it take to make that Liz pic? 3 seconds? How can you do it with everyone watching and not goof up? Do you do any pencil sketching before or you go straight to markers?
Sorry Naomi,
I don't know what's wrong. It works fine on Camino and Safari.
Blogger has been acting real strange lately.
My post yesterday is all scrambled on one of my browsers but it's fine on another.
It seems like it's randomly doing weird things on a computer by computer basis.
John:
It doesn't work on Safari for me :( Don't think it's a browser issue, but probably something to do with the distributed resource serving mechanism blogger uses...
OK, I reuploaded them.
Try refreshing...
Ah, I can see the re-uploaded ones (using IE 7)!
haha awesome! Thank you for the drawing and for coming to Chicago! It was a pleasure and a real treat. :)
Holy Crap!!! I would have loved to witness that!
John, what would it take to get you to come to Georgia and do a show? I know its a long way, but nothing exciting every happens in the South East, and we could sure use one of your presentations!!
I love Nurse Stimpy. When Ren is "all sticky with filth", there's a foghorn sound effect, followed by seagulls, to dramatize it. Then Stimpy struggles to pull Ren from his own goo. It's one of my favorite scenes in all of Ren & Stimpy.
I'd love to make a blog post about Chicago but my female is taking forever on uploading the pictures. But it was nice seeing you again John! Next time you come the least bit East, tell me in advance and I'll be there, buying you a pizza.
Man, you people are lucky, that looks like it was a great show!
Next time come to Toronto. We're very liberal here and will tolerate your cartoons of iniquity.
I was there on Saturday night!!!! John and Bill
I was there on Saturday night!!! John and Bill were nice enough to sign my blank piece of animation paper. John even drew a picture without me asking! Quite the pleasant surprise
check it out!!!

Hiya John,
Posted the caricature you did for me on my blog....Thanks for making the trip out, it was a blast!
i think you goofed up on yesterday post, probably when pasting the code for the youtube videos. It shouldn't be hard to fix. In the worst case you could copy the text to notepad temporarily and then erase the post, paste the text and put the clips code all again. It's not as complicated as it sounds.
It's good to see you post your fresh drawings on here. More! More!
Sounded like a sucess then. We need more animated shorts for the kids in theatres. Thats a least the good thing Disney did on Meet the Robinsons (horrible flick) They played an old Mickey Mouse cartoon in the beginning of the movie and alot of those kids probably have never seen it and that got more laughs than the entire movie did. Have some more shows John, keep em coming...
Time's Manliest Exchange
Hey John, you make bigshots out of guys like me! I got noticed at this show because of this blog and a kid even asked for a picture with me, saying it is like "meeting a celebrity." Everyone was asking if that hot babe Kali Fontecchio was there too.
That's the charm of the early Ren & Stimpy's is that there was some roughness in them.
I love it!!
Your marker work is a delight! Lovely lines. What kind of markers do you use?
The last couple scans aren't showing up. The very last one is working but the few before it are blank.
The ones that are showing up look good though :)
I was there and it was a real great time! I laughed the most at the part where George Liquor was telling Ren and Stimpy to get on his couch so he could be angry at them for being on his couch. I just posted some drawings I got at the show! http://blog.myspace.com/kermitzero
John, you're too hard on yourself,Nurse Stimpy isnt that bad at all!
I agree that it isnt up there with Space Madness,or "Rubber Nipple Salesmen",but I have to admit I still like the cartoon.(especially the part where Stimpy gives Ren the "icky tasting medicine with a giant spoon.
It does have a different "feel" about it though, the colors and grainy quality make it feel like a 50's cartoon.
BTW,this is kind of off the subject, but what it the title of the music that plays in "Rubber Nipple Salesmen" when Stimpy starts his "I have a dream..." dialog and he looks up at the Burl Ives sun?
I really loved the Commander Hoek and Cadet Stimpy shows, why didnt you make more of them?
No wonder you thought it sucked. The animation wasn't the worst part. It just sucked and honestly didn't make me laugh once.If I were to watch one episode on the big screen I'd choose Stimpy's Invention, Stimpy's fanclub, or The Royal Canadian Kilted Yaksmen. Although I haven't seen all the episodes in the first 2 sesons, out of the episodes I have seen those are the best.
