I think that it's great to watch real cartoonists construct! This is the modern-day substitute of being able to work with people who can actually construct, and having them show you in person. Now I'd like to see more tutorials of people *animating* on paper, talking and recording like this. Maybe then the craft wouldn't die out...

Great Idea. I learned more about drawing cartoony from watching John actually draw characters than I did from years of struggling with my pencil.
Watching good artist work is so rewarding
Thanks Pete! Thanks John! This was very fun (and educational) to watch.
This is really exciting.I was at a fair once and there was a guy selling drawings of cartoon characters (Disney, etc.). What I didn't find out till later though, was that his drawings were already lightly pre-penciled and he was just inking them at the booth.I'd much rather have had a pencil drawing I could watch him do on the spot than something he traced over. Those kids got gypped.
This is great! I like watching it being done then just step by step drawings.John, you should make a video like this!
Pete's a great guy...i had him as my character design prof last year at sheridan. Where as most of the profs would just talk non-stop, Pete always did some sort of a demo for us. Was great to watch him work, and it was cool to see him post a tutorial online. Hopefully the first of many. Everyone in the program would go nuts to get a charicature done by him. In fact, my display picture is an Emslie charicature...check it out.
It's really great to see how other people construct a good drawing. Incredibly helpful to watch! It's amazing seeing how he goes from construction to final sketch.I tried to clean up your George Liquor Shirt Design. The chair is cut off because of a little problem I had with the program. It's my first time cleaning up someone's work digitally, so it's not amazing.EDIT: Posted it at my blog, the link wasn't updating with the new version.I still have to do the rest.
Really great video. You should make more of your own video tutortials.
