Hey folks. I'm making some toys again and will need some good cartoony sculptors. Preferably in the LA area.
This is the kind of style. If you are into this cartoony stuff and want some work doing really fun toys, let me know in the comments. Put a link to your samples if you have them on a site. I'm working with a couple of good sculptors now, but we are expanding and will need more.
Cindy, Jim or anyone else who has already done sculpts for me and if you need some work, let me know.
Hey John, you should contact Jason Peltz he is an amazing sculptor (www.peltzproductions.com). He has done two sculptures of designs that Jessica Borutski did and the work was great. He also did some work for Jerry Beck. He really knows how to sculpt cartoony stuff, and I think he would do great things with your designs! I'm glad to hear your getting back into toys, it seem like merchandise is the only way to make $ in this biz.
Are you going to make toys out of Tenacious D from the video "Classico"? That would be so awesome. Would you recommend aspiring cartoonists to take a sculpture, in order for them to get a better feeling for creating things in three dimensions?
I'm glad to see that you're back to work, John! I love your toys and cartoons! I'm twelve years old, and your hilarity has inspired me to try learning how to draw for the first time in my life! I'm hoping that with practice I'll become as good as you by the time I go to college. Anyway, could you make some more George Liquor and Jimmy the Idiot Boy toys? They rule!
That's great you're going to make toys again! You should contact hotbutteredelves.com. They are very talented sculptors and nice people too! Ask for Dan.
I would love to help out with package design! I do a lot of dimensional paper stuff (like Jimmy's rocket) my flickr has the most up to date stuff http://www.flickr.com/photos/custompapertoys/ and a blog www.custompapertoys.com
Awesome opportunity! I just finished my advanced sculpture class so I'll tell my buddies in case they want to try. We're near LA anyway and most of us love cartoony stuff.
you should do those girls from the violently happy video. i would like to have them. cheers to my idol (even hard to not seem retarded with emotion writing here...) http://danielog.worpress.com
Ironically I'm working on a Stimpy sculpt right now and should be finished in a couple days. Is there a way I could e-mail some pics to you as soon as I'm done? This would definitely be a fun opportunity:)

I know this might sound sacrilegious to some, but I'd be interested to know if this sort of work can be done in 3d using zbrush or mudbox?

Have you heard of Kent Melton? he lives in Omaha now, but he's great. You get 360 degrees of nice silhouette.
Raffaello Vecchione is really good, too (& local).
