Let's say you saw a grab-bag full of these Little babies hanging from a peg in your local drug store or 7-Eleven and it cost 2 or 3 bucks of lousy US dollars.

I
know David
is gonna want this one. It's his favorite
expression.

Would you buy 'em?
If you have Little brothers, sisters or kids, show them to them and ask the same question.

Holy wow, Jimmy and Stimpy are masterpieces.
I'm not much into pencil toppers, or toys of that nature; but I love figurines! I would certainly purchase the figurines. =)
Hi John.
I'll buy them. I don't have nephews, kids or little brothers, but if I did, I guess it would be trouble cause we would fight to play with these :)
I would! BRING EM' ON!
I'll buy them all

"I'm not much into pencil toppers, or toys of that nature; but I love figurines! I would certainly purchase the figurines."
Same here. All those are pencil toppers? I really like Stimpy and Jimmy ones (Jimmy seems like a figurine I guess). I'd probably buy one of them if they are not too small.
Gimme gimme gimme! I want them for all my pencils - they're portable cartoon inspiration nuggets!
My wife wanted to know where we could buy them - I showed them to my kid - he laughed his head off at the color Stimpy!
they don't look worth lousy US dollars
i love ren and stimpy i would but they stimpy thing but everything else pales in comparison
in a heartbeat
I think everyone one of us that reads this blog would buy these. And thats why the market research here is flawed.
Yes, oh God yes!
Yes, oh God yes, I'd buy them!
These toys are beyond awesome. I really don't think my life will be complete if I don't have these on my toy shelf, I'm dead serious. Make them NOW!!
these are awesome. I'd definitely buy some!
Would Stimpy be available in a maquette? That would be awesome if you could get the clearance to do it.
those are extremely buyable! go capitalism!
Are you kidding? Of coarse I'd buy them. If for nothing else they'd be great to draw from.
ide buy one of these suckers in a second. theyre hysterical! everyone at the studio i work at here in brooklyn would too!! make em!
I'd buy the Uncle Eddie one to help my campaign to get him his own show on television. That man needs some air time.
Other than that, I'd certainly be interested in R&S ones. But, just being drawn to what I like personally, I'd go for those guys in the second pic because they're so cute. I guess that's what drew people to the Japanese ones in the first place.
I have about 10 people I work with that are obsessed with pencil toppers. They'd all buy em' and so would I! I'd buy the Jimmy and Stimpy one too!
I would start using pencils just so I could have these.
Make 'em quick so you can give a bag to Kirk Douglas. He's 91 now and says he no longer buys green bananas.
I would!!
And most of my friends would.
Send them to Argentina! You have a lot of fans here.
I'm not into pencil toppers either but, heck, I'm an old fart. I do really appreciate collectible PVC figures though, and I'd love to see you make more of those. Put me down for a figurine of Sody Pop, okay?
By the way, who is that goofy character in the medieval garb? Until you tell me, I am going to call him "Huckleberry Smurf"...
definitely. that Stimpy figure is AMAZING.
Yes
I would definitely buy one of these to dangle from my cell phone. Maybe the Stimpy one. Or the Rip (or is that just Kirk Douglas?) one. Or the Jimmy and George ones... Probably all of them.
- Lex
Cool designs!
I would be less likely to buy pencil toppers from 7-11 and more likely to buy larger, limited edition (500 and less) collector vinyl from a toy store. Between 3 and 10 inches tall-ish seems to be where the big collector base is.
Hell yeah, I would snatch all these up. If anyone is interested I just posted a new blog giving examples of what I want to sculpt next, if anybody can give me your oppinion that would be cool.
They're really funny.. it's so rare to see a sculpture or drawing nowadays that in itself, without a gag or action, just makes you laugh. I would buy them just for the humorousness of the little buggers
John, I think it would be pretty obvious that everyone on this blog would buy them out of sheer fandom. But I think if you want a broader opinion, posting these on some type of toy forum or kids forum should fetch you a greater amount of answers.
I myself would buy them- a bag of two to five for under $4 would be pretty cool. The Stimpy topper is my favorite.
These are cool John.
John,I just got my Ralph Bakshi Unleashed book. All I can say that the artwork alone blows The Illusions
of Lifes artwork out of the water.
Would I buy these? The question isn't will, it's when. And I will when you put them up for sale.
I LOVE the Stimpy from 'Stimpy's Pregnant' even though I'm a little mad at the colors. I'll buy that, too. What the hell.
BTW, I saw Michael Pataki in a movie called 'Sidehackers' on Mystery Science Theatre 3000... he doesn't sound anything like George... which I suppose is a testament to his talent.
- trevor.
PS: Take my five bucks!
PPS: Carlo should make versions of his cat character too. I'd buy them.
The detail is incredible - I would definitely buy them...but in GBP rather than lousy dollars.
I would die to have that stimpy pencil topper and be the envy of my class! kids seem to go for hyped up collectable toys where you have to complete the collection. come out with more every month or so & soon every kid will want one and those lousy american dollars will come rolling in. keep the goodies comin!
yes yes yes i'd buy them in a hot sec.
yes please
i am an immature adult and i'll definitely buy!
distribute them in Spain please, mr Kricfalusi!!
(or i'll have to pay overseas shipping costs...)
it's a great idea, but i wouldn't go the convenience store route. i think you 'd be better off going the collectable toy market route as limited editions.
i really want the kid crusaders.
I would even buy them online!
Yes! I really like the pencil toppers!
Figurines would be cool if they're about the size of those smurf figurines that used to sell so well. About 2 inches high I think...somewhere around there.
I mean around 2 inches for the smallest characters.
NO...I mean yes of course, do you really have to ask?
hell yeah!
I do really appreciate collectible PVC figures though
Don't make them PVC!
PVC is toxic, and if you can't stick these in your mouth and gnaw them absentmindedly when you're distracted, what's the point?
Well I'm not going to lie, I prefer the original pencil toppers (George with the spatula and sexy Sody Pop), but I'd still buy them for sure.
Most definitely. Sign me up.
The George and Eddies are amazing! No little nephews to show them to, sorry!
What happened to the Tenacious D figures?!? I'd buy those in a minute too!
By the by, who's the guy in the loincloth?
I wouldn't mind having a few of those at the ends of my pens or pencils. Sure, I'll buy 'em. But, just one question:
I know David is gonna want this one. It's his favorite expression.
Which David are you talking about there?
Johnny K.,
Actually, you don't exist!
I'd buy 'em. I'D BUY 'EM ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Make these goddamn toys!
Heck, I'll tell the truth.
I would not buy those toys.
i love the one where stimpy has the straw up him bum with the happy/ pained expression. Maybe if they were more marketed towards adult collectors you could sell a lot. I think kids are more into plush toys. At least I think girls are. A nice stink Ren to cuddle up with while you dream about the "tooth fairy". Best episode ever btw.
Do these toys stack together in order to form UltraMegaCartoonZoid?
If not, why would I collect them all?
I might as well just buy the one I like most,..
but if I HAVE to buy them all to make ultramegacartoonzoid then i would start bloodletting small animals just to taste that sweet sweet nectar!
Oh, they dont make UltraMegaCartoonZoid when you put them all together? I'll just take the big chin one. i like how he has a bump where his chin comes out more.
Dude, YES.
I bet kids would love to get these out of gumball machines too.
I want the cartoony Stimpy
YES
I want to blow my money on ALL OF THEM! I would rather spend hard earned cash on these cute little toys than for a stupid dress for my stupid junior prom. XD
I showed these to my eight year old brother, who also loved them. His personal favorite was the George Liquor pencil topper. "Man's Best Friend" is his favorite Ren and Stimpy episode, so one can see why he'd have a fondness for that one.
Just goes to show that this kind of stuff appeals to everyone. ;)
I think they are great and would buy every one. I showed my nieces (age 5 and 7) and they LOVE them too!!
I've always found it strange that someone would have a problem slapping down $5 for something like this, yet have NO problem blowing $7 at McDonald's for a meal that promises to make them an even fatter American...
Why not buy these, skip lunch and be healthier?
How about doing one of Don Knotts as Barney Fife!
Of course everyone on here would buy them, myself included. What would be totally amazing would be if you kept releasing new toys regularly. When I was a kid, I spent 10$ on one of those quarter machines to get the full collection of "Justice League" figures. Kids always love collecting things, especially if they're silly and appealing.
I would buy them no questions asked.
Why yes, yes I would buy them. Is one of them the salesperson on the beach from Naked Beach Frenzy? If so, yes I would definitely buy these toys.
i would buy
Afirmative!
Yes, I would buy them. Especially the Stimpy one.
Make ones that morbid little boys and grown men would enjoy too, like one of the crazy poses of Ren when the dog cathers bust in on him in Ren Seeks Help.
Wait a minute. John do you have to have a license to sell Ren and Stimpy merchandise, or did you get full ownership rights to your characters back? I'd like to see Ren and Stimpy in more cartoons.
My sister said:-
“Huckelberry Smurf as that guy called him is great(Pete Emslie)! Hell i'll buy them!:)”
Thanks heaps everybody!
I would definitely be getting those provided their available in the Philippines! Although, I'm leaning towards the uncolored version of the toys.
I'm usually not into buying this type of stuff but that weird viking kid is pretty tempting. If it was cheap, I don't think I could resist!
They're all great. Especially the Eddie one!!!
I shouldn't have asked. My eight-year-old daughter now wants to know when we're getting them. (She wants Stimpy in particular.)
YES!!! They all look fabulous, especially Stimpy and Jimmy (that's the pose from the Remote Control comic, isn't it?)
And every pencil with Uncle Eddie on the top will become a magic one, and have the power of transforming an average Joe into a genius cartoonist. You can use this as a marketing pitch :)
Can't wait for these toys to be produced.
YES
Hi, John im a big fan of you, and Im desesperate to buy some of these toys, please hurry up to finish them
I'll just buy the Ren, and maybe a Jimmy: my favorite ones.
John I liked the Log Action figures on the card that were released as premiums with the Mr. Horse and Yak characters that came out a few years back- one was the clear plastic INVISO Log! the other, the openmouthed SINGING Log. I'd sure buy what you sold, I would just hope you had your great spoof packaging to hold 'em all in.
-PS!!!- John, I just got your note on my blog about Harvey Siegle Williams- I'll be more than happy to introduce you- I think Harvey may have been responsible for the Bullwinkle/Redeye Boris episodes you liked, before Hurtz got heavily involved, but I'm sure Harv will be able to sort it out for us- Bill
I would buy the Uncle Eddie, if it is life-size. And how much work is it to construct a matching torso (anatomically correct, of course)?
i would buy them only if there was also a log pencil topper to complete the set ;)
LOG !
I would just like to add YES, I would buy these.
yes
do sven hoek!
I would love to buy toys of my favorite cartoon puppets.
I'd buy them! And then display them at work, where my coworkers would buy them, and so on...
If they cost 25 cents each and I could stick them on my pencils, of course.
$35 and they have to be kept in a custom glass case filled with argon, then no thanks.
Yes your toy look amazing!
Id buy them all! Throw a keychain on a couple of them!
Man, John, with the right sculptors, you could take the underground vinyl toy figure world by storm. Show those pansy hipster AIR-TEESTS* what a real toy looks like.
OH OH, please! A contemplative Mister Horse!
(*disclaimer: I actually really dig those guys too. Tim Biskup is the man.)
i'd definitely get the little babies for my niece, and probably stimpy, altho then I'd have to get her the DVDs and I'm not sure how her father would feel about that :). I could see the little babies playing with her littlest pet shop toys.
I love the Stimpy with the pencil/straw up his butt. It makes sense with that expression.
I'd buy them if they weren't pencil toppers. Weird knick-knacks are the best thing ever. I have an army of them on my desk.
The only toy I would probably buy would be the viking kid with that blue skin. And I would probably stick it on a shelf in some future office where I would do my cartoon drawings along with other cartoony figurines.
I'm not much into the pencil toppers, or a fan of Ren and Stimpy really. And a bunch of the expressions on these toys are sending off this constipated look to me, which is turning me off.
But the viking-kid and probably the figurine of that character on his back, yeah.
Yes. Why? Because you think and draw like a kid! :)
Hell yeah
of couurrrrsee!!!
the ren and stimpy one is really good I would definitely buy that and george liquor
I'd like to find them in those big rectangular, 12-to-a-box packages of Fritos like I did back in kindergarten. 'WC Fritos' and all that...that would be lovely. Even if didn't eat the Fritos.
kids seem to like very boring toys nowadays, although i've seen some decent re-versions of GI Joe... I think your toys would DEFINITELY sell in comic book shops. Balancing the quality of sculpture and articulation /movement is very important to me. It sucks if i can't fight with them, but I hate buttons and such jutting out of the backs. on the other hand, i will gladly stare at a sculpture collecting dust on the top of my pencil because i'm very mature now.
GOD!!! I would buy them in a heart beat, good job with those, the Stimpy one is AWESOME!!
Revision "Market Research- Would You Buy These Toys" should read as "Market Research- You Would Buy These Toys"
Please YES!!!!!!!
John, they look great. It's not that. You've got a lot of people around who'll say everything you do is good, out of respect. I just think you need a better idea, so through the magic semi-anonymity of the blogosphere, I put some bad drawings of a toy concept on intracerswetrust.blogspot.com. Please don't kill me for the drawings.
God, YES!!
My little kid also loves figurines and pencil toppers, and he loves Ren and Stimpy!!
I would definitely buy them, especially if they were only a few bucks.
The cuter the better!
I sure would! And if they were avalible in Brazil, even better!
:P
YES YES YES!!!!
I would buy them for every man woman and child I know!!!
they would make great party favors too!!!!
Without a doubt, if I went into Village Vanguard here in Japan and saw a bag of these for 1000 yen (about 10 bucks), I'd buy them immediately.
I'd go higher than that, too. 2500 yen for a bag of little plastic figures with your characters?
Absolutely.
Of course.
Spumco at the 7-11? For a mere few bucks?? Please make it happen! Oh PULEEZEE!!!
By the way, I'm not a cartoonist, but I love the posts on technique. Keep 'em comin'.
SÍ, SÍ, ¡SÍ!
Ze
I'd buy em. In a heart beat.
