How exactly are adults who play with dollies any more mature than adults who read comics? I usually don't heckle, but I gotta call bullshit on this one.

Easy. Toys aren't graphic depictions of semi-naked men with rubber underpants and "packages". Any other questions?
(BTW, I don't actually own any of these - I just sent the eBay links to John to laugh at!)
Yep. When I wear Yogi custumes while mowing the lawn, I mature REAL fast, when the neighbors run over to beat the crap out of me. That's called discipline!
I think what he's saying is that nostalgia is okay. If you collect old toys or old comics because it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, okay then.
HOWEVER: If you're an adult and you're accepting super-powered folk running around in their underwear as serious literature...well, there's something really weird about that.

HA HA, Hemlockman you hit the nail on the head! The same thing applys to all those creepy middle aged weirdos who stand in line at barnes and noble at midnight with a hard on waiting for the newest harry potter book. and of course all those adults who argue the philosophical aspects or Star Wars when its all just made up bullshit.
Thank God for hand-me-downs. I was lucky enough to have some things like this interspersed with my playthings. I particularly remember a set of these which are probably now all torn to heck by my siblings. I had some newer stuff too, but the older more cartoony stuff was always my favorite.
BTW, that cartoon project I posted a while back is a finalist in the contest. (It's the third one)
So there's something "seriously weird" about the Watchmen graphic novel being awarded a Hugo, and appearing on Time Magazine's list of the 100 best English language novels from 1923 to present?
Guy: Well, to each their own. As for myself, I see nothing "weird" about considering as serious literature stories which feature superheroes and masked crimefighters (Watchmen, Sandman, The Spirit) regardless of whether or nor they appear in the form of a graphic novel or a "real" book.
John,is the cub/gopher type creature with the red bow on the right hand in pic 10 a nightlight? It looks nearly identical to one I had nearly 40 yrs ago(I'm 42).Happy memories. BTW,I came to your blog after really enjoying your commentaries on the LT Golden Collection DVDs.Yours are easily the most enjoyable.(With apologies to Michael Barrier, his are the least informative and most boring.) I've been saying for years that McKimson's chr designs are all kinda rodentine-looking,with the big jaws and the tiny skulls. There are toons I swear where Bugs looks exactly like the Goophy Gophers. As an animator, thanks for a highly informative and fun blog that spruiks for quality in animation.

And I thought elephants were phallic already...
"the butcher" pretty sure it was a joke.
We all like cartoons here, most people would see all of us as immature on some level. Who cares?
Also, John that is the first rabbit with down syndrome I've ever seen.
"Hi this is Yogi's Lawn Service, I also trim trees and do termiting. I noticed you have a lot of dead wood in your trees. May I come in?"
There should be a reality show where a guy goes into a bar dressed in that bear costume and tries to get laid.
!! !!! !! These are beautiful. I have squeeky bear with the red bow! I feel grown up already.
"If you put this costume on while mowing the lawn, you will mature fast, I promise."
But for some reason, doing the same thing in a ballerina costume, and just like that, she stops returning your phone calls.
- trevor.
LOL at the bunny with his eyes at the opposite sides of his head. I MUST HAVE THAT ADORABLE YOGI BEAR COSTUME!
To Colter: Is your avatar supposed to be an extra cartoony version of Andrew from Matt Wilson's Bonus Stage?
John,
Would you recommend this book on perspective?

The guy that wrote it isn't really that great of an artist,
and he's certainly not Cartoony.
Inspiring
"That's hot, they should make a super hero movie from it in super serious style!"
Cool new stuff to draw.
john's absolutely right everybody. I wore this costume while mowing the lawn every day for a week and i matured faster than you could ever believe

Thank you.

To Taco Whiz:
Actually no, it isn't. I have watched a few episodes of Bonus Stage though. You'll have to show me Andrew so I can see the resemblance.
I've never seen Andrew in the eps I've watched.

That Ruff and Reddy doll up top is amazing. Thanks for these great toy finds Mike!

Oops, that link doesn't work.

Doug: I'd say so, yes.
Guy: Having said that, have you read Watchmen?
Doug: Yes.
And, as I don't get thrills from reading comics that are almost like real books, I saw nothing special about it.
Guy: Well, to each their own. As for myself, I see nothing "weird" about considering as serious literature stories which feature superheroes and masked crimefighters (Watchmen, Sandman, The Spirit) regardless of whether or nor they appear in the form of a graphic novel or a "real" book.
REAL TOYS...I get weepy looking all that quality plastic crap!
