Who I Saw On The News

Well I'm out of practice on caricatures, so I thought I'd warm up last night for a new project by doing some straight ahead sketches off the TV.I thought this guy would be easy, but it's taken me a few tries and I'm still struggling.

My favorite newscaster, maybe the only one who doesn't piss me off at all. He makes a lot of funny faces too - especially when he checks himself in the monitor.

This lady is a gift to caricaturists from God.

This one's from memory. I can't seem to make him primitive enough yet. He's from the caveman network. He has a show that is about nothing else except how the President is a bum and he'd better fail. He'll be so happy if he's right and America dies. Every night for a whole hour that's what he has to say. It's hilarious.

Cool drawings! Drawing from TV can be a lot of fun; you're forced to look carefully yet analyze quickly.

that michelle obama is dead on.

That second last one made me spit water onto my desk when I laughed.

Is that Bill O' and Steve Miller? I think I saw that same interview where they're "discussing" the video you had in one of the posts on the 2% of rap. (Not 2%) That "interview" is infuriating, the Jay Z thing was a bit uncalled for, but attacking civil rights leaders is low, but probably still above Bill O's usual standards, since he will always sacrifice his values for (job) security. Was Miller on Limbaugh's show earlier popping Oxycontin to make the Obamania go away?

Is that Drunk Anderson Cooper the day after the election: http://videogum.com/v/C5qcHIyOwGgWa or just normal AC?

The top one is that Brian fellow. the round nosed guy I recognize, but I don't know his name.

Oh. It's not paul neuman. It's that other great news anchor, Anderson Cooper. duh.

Is the last one Sean Hannity?

HA! I don't watch enough news to know who they are, but they're still a riot!

wow, these are awesome. What would you say is the most important thing to keep in mind while drawing a caricature? I manage a caricature stand at the zoo in the summer. I draw mostly cute children, which can be both fun and terribly repetitive. Any suggestions for cartooning kids?

Nice stuff!

Is that the new nominee for Treasury at the top? The next few look like David Gergen. I mean, the first two look like him. The third one is him.

Ryan G. said...

Ha! Is that Hannity on the bottom?

I recognize Bill ORieley, Anderson Cooper, but who's that moon faced bearded gentleman and that woman?

Hi John

I was seeing "yankee doodle daffy" and the gag of the young daffy sucking the candy reminds me a lot the gag in "Nurse Stimpy" when the spoon deform Ren's Face. In a most extreme way of course.

haha

well, that's all

You need to do an Ann Coulter one.

I like to call Bill O' Reilly, Bill O'Really ? You also got to love Fox News' slogan "fair and balanced".

Maybe the 2nd one is Chris Matthews?

Do these mugs really need to be broadcasted in hi-def?

I'm glad to see somebody is finally caricaturing Mrs. Obama. You're right, she is God's gift to caricaturists. I think people are afraid to make fun of her.

Adam T said...

Bill O'Reilly's weirdest feature is his chin and neck avalanche. He's got the fleshiest waddle on TV.

Niki said...

I'm not sure if I show you these, but they're are all of models! except for one. I drew a rough shape for each head first then filled it in.

Sean Hannity is the one on the bottom i think

I've wanted to leave a comment for forever, but as I like to learn about drawing and animation, i have little talent for it myself. Your last caricature really reminded me of something from my own hobby of "video remixing". I happened to be using a clip of "Naked Beach Frenzy" combined with a mirror effect, and this is a still of the result.

The David Gergen is great! Michelle Obama makes it seem to easy! The John Stewart is the weakest of the lot, but he's my personal favorite, too.

hey john k! well, it's been a long time coming... so here goes... i've been trying to get the deets on an animation that i think is either hanna barbera or warner bros. it consisted of a couple who had spectacular pets who played some mean jazz in the comfort of their homes. well, it turned out that this spectacle had it's 5 minutes worth of fame and then the who thing blew over and returned to the folks enjoying the musical pets without the huge line-ups. it's short and sweet but remains a triumph in my mind. you, a gent with an amplitude of knowledge in such sector... do you know of the animation i'm writing of? if you could shed a light on this little skit that i'm longing to more of, i'd be eternally/existentially greatful, thanks!!

Ha! Anderson Cooper looking at himself in the monitor is great!

Hannity can jump off a bridge

I love Cooper! He carries that strange mix of professionalism and passion with a dash of humanity that reassures you that he has hot American blood in his veins. I would love to have a drink with that guy, after which we would toy with the emotions of reality game show contestants (any one remember ABC's "The Mole"?).

Hannity is a pain in my foot. Here's my take from way back.

Anderson Cooper looks like a little kid, but with gray hair.

And yes, he does make the strangest faces. To me he always looks overly-concerned

Tom said...

I can't believe it took everyone so long to guess Sean Hannity. I thought he was dead on, haha. Aaron's take is great too — I guess he's just an easy target.

And yes, people are a little afraid to make fun of Michelle Obama, but that could just be because she's not an asshole. We're not used to that.

AVIDVIDEOEDITOR said...

Jack Cafferty always reminded me of the Blue Eagle muppet. I see Mr. K. is a CNN fan ;-) All dead on, Roland Martin especially. No, you are not out of practice :)

The only one I got right away was Gloria Vanderbilt's gay son...Anderson Cooper.
