Gold! Her rubberhose arm dance is hypnotizing, too. Gotta say, they were wise to get rid of her dog ears and make her into a human (weird that only her nose and ears made her a dog to begin with).
"don't you wish your girlfriend was a freak like me," is what I imagine as the next line.
The only thing I have against her being a human is that the bureau hated bestiality. No more Bimbo for her!

Gee, its great the way Betty's shadow is rght in sync with her dance. Isn't it a characteristic of Fleischer that shadows almost have a life of there own.
yea the shadows in fleischer cartoons do have a life of their own it's really incredible like bimbo's shadow in mysterious mose. This cartoon has incredible movement, even in this last scene there is so much going on, thanks for posting this stuff john!
What a funny coincidence, I just saw this cartoon yesterday.
Back in the good ole days when they made cartoons for adults without them being overly trampy and obvious. Yeah Betty played things a bit loose (no pun intended) but she was better than say, Lois Griffin. Though if she were done today they would probably turn her into someone like that...

I wonder why she eventually lost her appealThe Hollywood Production Code took away her individuality. Bimbo got kicked out of her series in 1933 to eliminate any suggestion of bestiality. After "Red Hot Mama" in '34 (where Betty's body is silhouetted through her nightgown), Betty was forced to dress demurely and wasn't allowed any scenes that implied nudity. When plots that put Betty's virtue in peril also were banned soon afterward, she had really kind of lost her reason to exist. She got re-cast as a cutesy career girl, was saddled with a despicable little dog called Pudgy, and her sexy flirtatious adventures were replaced by storylines that could have featured almost any cartoon character. Instead of boyfriends trying to sneak peaks at her body, she ran about with lovable old inventor Grampy and a succession of guest stars from comic strips. Some of those cartoons came out okay, but there was really nothing unique about her any more: the once spicy Betty had become bland. The Betty Boop series carried on until 1939, but the true Betty had been gone for about 5 years by the time it breathed its last.
Bimbo's Initiation is one of my favorite cartoons, and this scene is one of my favorite parts. There's something funny about a cartoony character doing a feminine, seductive dance. Bimbo's reaction- wiggly ears, big grin, dopey giggle- is funny too.
