I love the red nose technique of old cartoon paintings

Cartoons jumped the shark as soon as they stopped giving characters red noses. A red nose is essential to good cartooning. The redder the nose, the better your animation or painting will be. Of course animation classes never teach this anymore. The industry's really gone downhill.

As though the wild happenings onscreen could be explained away by characters' evident drunkenness.

Renaissance painters gave the noses, cheeks, palms of hands, and bottoms of feet extra rosiness to make them seem more alive.

Although it's much happier on Fred and Barney.
