Billy Barty, Yankee Doodle Dandy

Hey, this must be that weird concept called "talent" that Hollywood stars used to have, in the creaky old, unenlightened past.

Thank goodness Baby Boomer studio executives (and other ex-hippies) decided it was corny and passé - and rescued us from all that!

Billy Barty's Cagney routine is priceless, but anyone who hasn't seen Cagney himself dance in "Yankee Doodle Dandy" might not get it.

Or, for that matter, get Spike Jones. Spike was sort of... a live-action Tex Avery or Bob Clampett? Since they all came up at the same time, mid-1930's to early '40's, it's impossible to figure out who influenced who. Or even "Who Killed Who!"

Where has all the great old craziness gone? Right... into politics, so don't remind me.

Pilsner's Picks is now featuring "Nowhere," by another Spike Jones discovery and musical maniac, Red Ingle. Check it out— unless you want to be nowhere yourself, like that ex-governor lady from Baked, Alaska.

"You can prove that you're a mouse,
By eatin' cheese beneath the house—
And that's what I like about Nowhere!"

"I know every routine you've ever done. I did them all first!"

"Yeah, and I did them right."

Haha! I can picture you and Ralph having that exchange.
