Oh, wow, for a moment I thought I'd misread. I'm interested in reading this.
I have to read this
I thought it was a hoot. So many funny liberties taken with the character animation that accented what was said or who was saying it.
REALLY ? This looked like a total bastardization of one of my favorite childhood books.
Well, i'm intrigued.
Hey John!:) I've trying hard to construct my drawings lately, would you please take a look?http://thomashjorthaab-sykkostuff.blogspot.com/ I still can't remember how to make the clickable links, hope you forgive me:) - Cheers John!
You're kidding!I'm still just mad they changed the art from the original children's book to CalArts style for seemingly no good reason.
Hey John,Since you're on the subject of CG, I'd love to get your take on this short little Woody Woodpecker gem I came across on Vimeo. Does it anger you? Make you Happy?
Hey John, glad you enjoyed this one too! It was a real step-up from most of the crap on the big screen these days. I wrote a lil' review of my own here.
Wow, i had almost totally ignored it! Guess i spoke (or thought) too soon...Mr. K, i've been studying every day & my learning curve has gone happily through the roof! Though i hope i haven't picked up any bad habits from copying CN characters (etc) without fully understanding the forms. Thanks for the schooling! studies
I was completely ready to give up wasting my money on these lame CG movies and had no intention of seeing this one, and now you say its good. I have been so disappointed with almost all of these crappy CG animated piles of doo. I was going to save my money, but wait. The only things that stand out to me in the past 20 yrs was the 3D imagery in UP and the penguins in Madagascar 2. All right, now I have to know what you thought about it. Im waiting with baited breath. Which kinda has a fishy taste to it.
Are you kidding me?
I guess I've got to see it if you haven't absolutely slaughtered it..... I had to look twice....Hey John you got any advice or crits? here
I might have to check this out. I wasn't really planning on seeing it, but I saw a clip with a snowball fight that had me cracking up, so that combined with you of all people liking this has me really curious now.
I really loved the rigs in this movie, probably the best humans in CG since the Incredibles
i was looking through the art of book, and saw some old spumco peeps.. have you been approached to do design or story (or directing i wish) work on any of these big CG pix, yet? would you consider doing that kind of stuff, like punching up the jokes in a Shreck movie or something?
I enjoyed it as well. I was even thinking of coming here and telling you about it right after I saw it. But, I guess you found it on your own. That's good.Apparently, it was done by the same people that create Clone High.I await your analysis, sir.
i watched some making of for this. they used an actual camera and hooked it up to a computer so that they could move around "filming" in the constructed cg environments. it is a pretty true hybrid between regular movie making and animated. pretty interesting.
I haven't seen it, but all of the graphics from it have reminded me a lot of the old CLYDE CRASHCUP TV show.
WOW! I completely agree! I took my son to see this yesterday, not really expecting much from it, but WHOA! I was cracking up at this film. It was an actual CG cartoon! Lots of slapstick, visual gags as opposed to verbal humor that is spoken way to fast for me to catch let alone my son. Uhm... sorry. John, you were saying?
I went and saw this with my wife just because it was in 3D. I loved the character designs because of the retro look they followed. It was a surprisingly good movie. I have to admit that I really liked the end credits, where they used 2D versions of the 3D characters, but still applied the 3D treatment.Overall worth seeing AND taking your kids to. :D
This is exactly what I was thinking! It's like an actual cartoon... except in 3D.
Wow, and to think I was going to give this film a pass. If John likes a CG feature then I'm intrigued enough to check it out after all. Frankly, I haven't been this shocked since my pal Greg Duffell raved about how much he liked "Home on the Range"! Is there a total eclipse happening or something else to cause this rare phenomenon? :)
Wow, for real? I completely wrote it off when I saw the trailer, but it's been getting rave reviews across the board. And now John K. likes it. Screw it, I'm going to have to check this one out for myself pronto.
I understand why you'd be mad at Dreamworks, but I don't understand why you'd be mad at Pixar. Pixar films aren't cartoons...but they ARE well-written animated novels.Anyway, I thought the movie looked like stupid, as Rick said, "bastardization of the book that my mom used to read to me every night because I loved it so much". (Yes, I loved it as a toddler) You, however, are a cartooning God, and I must obey your opinion and watch it. XD Okay, not a GOD.Please post the review soon.
john k???not mad????at cgi??????this is a horrendous abomination to the natural order and I WILL NOT STAND FOR IT
I'll probably never be a fan of CG.
We didn't even see it with the 3d glasses, we're kinda lame, haha.
The Saturday morning conventions, arbitrary gags, manic pacing with no letup, and unrelenting dialogue drove me out of the theater in a little less than an hour. I don't know if it was the movie or the 3D that gave me the headache, but I'm not going back to find out. I didn't see the ending, but I'm sure the boy saved the world and someone did a Pinocchio death and return jack in the box. Am I right?
I am highly anticipating this movie. I already think the promotion looks good, so if you tell me the rest is better, it has to be great. I have confidence in the Clone High directors, it was a hilariously funny cartoon for adults.Nobody knows the book here in Spain, so I don't care if the story is different. We won't see "Cloudy" in Spain until December, though.
I wholeheartedly agree!! I absolutely adored this film and the entire time I was howling with laughter louder than the little kids behind me. You can tell the animators had so much fun working on it.
John K. LIKING a modern computer animated feature = Mind Blown. While it'll probably be awhile before it comes out here (nearly anything animated comes out 6 months late here AT LEAST) I'm interested to see what you have to say about it.Also, did you know it was done by the same guys who did that MTV toon Clone High? They seem to share a few similar character designs, especially with some of the reaction faces.
Oh weird, I kinda predicted this...
I know it's so visually impressive and interesting. There hasn't been a CGI film like this ever and I was glad to see it this weekend. Not sure how many people in the audience around us (small group sadly) that laughed at the expressions but my sibs and loved them a lot. I'd love to see more of these characters in some way or another. They know how to make them look good.
>>John K. LIKING a modern computer animated feature = Mind Blown.<<There is a difference between liking and not getting mad. ;)
Posted that before he did his review, so lemme rephrase that:John K. NOT GETTING MAD at a modern computer animated film = Mind Blown.
