Yeah, Porky was pretty much cutened up in Bob Clampett's first unit. Although, IMO Frank Tashlin had Porky pretty adorable in his cartoons just before Calmpett became a director, still fat but adorable.

But, yes, the Clampett Porky is what people immediately think of.

Yeah! Looking forward to it. Really enjoy all your posts & at the risk of making you sound like a jukebox, can i request a post on HORSES?

I searched your blog & found some great horse miscellany, but i'd love a 'best of cartoon horses' or similar...you know...uh...if you want... :)

Here are my further studies:

studies

Incidentally, my first cartoon-drawing book wasn't the Preston Blair book, it was: "How to draw cartoons" by Rolf Harris.

P.S - Thomas, check out

how to embed hyperlink in blogger comments

Regards,

Paul.

ok thanks John, i'll try to stick to that, but what do you think about the background stuff, and constructions?

I want to learn more:D

Cheers

but I thought that I had done construction on my characters, now I'm not so sure what construction really is:S

It's how you build up your character right? and how you build him up in different situations...
With forms, line of action etc.

Hey John I got the Beany and Cecil DVDs today and am affirming your recommendation because I bought these sight unseen based on your taste in cartoons and they're terrific, money well spent.

would love to know what you think

That's gotta be from "Porky's Pooch" - Clampett, in an unusual move, used photos for backgrounds in this one cartoon from 1941. It works very well in this black-and-white cartoon.

Hi, John.

I'd like to attend your cartoon college. I have a lot of time on my hands and I draw everyday.

What do I have to do to attend?

There's a big construction goof with that eye. I know mistakes happen, but geez, that's kind of unsightly. Frankly it ruins the frame for me. I await your tomatoes.
