Kali always does impressive coloring ( and inking, and drawing ) ...but I think the inked drawing is really beautiful by itself. I can see it becoming an Out of the Inkwell animation, with Ren and Stimpy plucking on the lines like guitar strings, playing their theme song, and tying each other into knots.
I don't know if you had explained it before but what kind of markers do you use? I don't know if I could buy those in Spain, but it'd cool to give it a try since I'm not very good at coloring without the use of the computer.
Thanks for this, John! This is an excellent walk-through! Are those watercolor-markers you used on the outlines? I'm afraid I'm really, REALLY inexperienced with any sort of watercolor media (http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_eaoA2gSNHk0/Swb-fFExPeI/AAAAAAAAALg/dDj73LP1aKw/s1600/colorkirkSM1.jpg if you'd like to take a quick look at one of my most recent attempts).
I love the contrasts in Stimpy & Ren's expressions. Stimpy still hasn't gotten all the wackiness outta his system despite the anger of the authority figure. Reminds me so much of being in school.
That crazy Nico should know better than to be wacky. Doesn't he realize that today's cartoon executives don't hire the wacky? Animated cartoons are serious business, don'cha know - gotta be educational and all that...
Ren & Stimpy in Jellystone Park... A real symbiosis, involving Hanna-Barbera and Spümco. I remember when you drew for an animation-related magazine, another symbiosis involving two different charcters from two different studios: George Jetson, mounted over Mighty Mouse. A perfect symbiosis, involving Hanna-Barbera and Terrytoons. We cannot forget of a legendary animator who worked on these two studios: Carlo Vinci.
I actually think the duo looks more appealing here than they did at virtually any point in APC. If anything they that was where they got much less wacky-looking.

Are those subtle highlights ( like the shine on Ranger's boots ) done with a pencil?
Ren and Stimpy, new and improved! They look really at their best!

Awesome.
Hey Trevor- those highlights are done by just starting with light markers and getting darker gradually.
great colors! you really like ranger smith dont you!
That Ranger is packing something impressively large in that package of his.
Great drawing! But...why is Stimpy pointing toward his mouth?

Oh my god, I love this. It's beautiful.
Stimpy's eyes are hilarious!

Great drawing as usual!
That Nico is ONE lucky Bastard to have cool friends like you two.
Very nice, what kind of inks did you use?
What do you call this style? There's a lot of "cheating" going on.
Veeeeeery Nice!!!!

Again, awesome post, John!

Only yourself, to do some stuff of these...
Really nice.
But Stimpy's right eye is melting into his nose. I don't get that. How does that fit into proper construction and all that.
You don't consider that "wonky"?
I consider it a mistake.

Beautiful drawing, well done Kali and John! I'm really digging the colors.
Lines= Tombo brush pens.
the rest of the color were done with Chartpaks, Trias, Prismas, and Copics.
Excellent... Would you do one of those for my Birthday? It's on July 13th = )
Great job, I love these Marker poster drawings!
Awesome! Thanks for the supply-rundown, Kali! And fantastic work on the colors!
Thanks!
Man wouldn't it be cool to have an entire cartoon coloured and inked this way?
It'd be quite expensive i bet.
Great stuff! You two should collaborate on some kind of Little Golden book or something.
Stimpy is incorrigible, Despite the sign and the stern warning he is clearly continuing his wackiness!
