Hi John, this is nothing to do with this post, but I didn't know how else to reach you. I spent a while yesterday having a go at some inking and wondered if you would be kind enough to offer any criticism of it.
I Love Mary Blair. Have you read South of the Border with Disney? It talks about how that trip brought out that Mary Blair style in her. Before that they just considered her so-so.
When i was a young kid, i used to look forward to doctor's visits purely for their collection of golden books.
People say they enjoyed 80's cartoons because they didn't understand visual principles as kids, but that's a lie. A concept of what is beautiful and "right" is inherent within us, and is universal. Obviously, the people who made Scooby Doo knew this, and secretly hated themselves.
I need to buy this Blair book, i have always been in awe of her work. It's a level of artistry i know i could never reach, i can't comprehend the genesis of such an amazing style (where do you start?!). That i can still remember actual pages of those books, 20 years on, is testament to that.
Do you think Amazon would ship to Australia? I've never dealt with them, but I can imagine it would be difficult to source here.

Thanks a lot :)

These are great! The one with Sody and the zombie is my new favorite John picture!
Frazetta certainly knew the power and use of effective colors.
Sody with a zombie. Very hip!
I love the Zombie drawing. What do you use for the coloring?? Prisma Markers??
I mostly use Chartpak, but it's all an excuse for not being able to paint.
That's why I put up links to articles about real painters and colorists.

Wow, I didn't know zombies liked eating asses as well as brains.
Your zombie is first one I've seen in 25 years that doesn't bore the crap right out of me.
If she's got bitten by a zombie, that means she's a zombie... Sody Zombie... Jimmie would still like her.
It would be a little bit like Twilght.
Is that zombie sporting a chub?
A much needed feast for the eyes after a near-toxic dose of 80's vermin.
But beware the women's right activists... Especially the male ones! ;)

Oh man, these are great!
I love the Mary Blair book. I just bought it this past week. It's a very good book, I just wish the paintings in it were bigger.

Not Sody's exquisitely formed ass! That's a cartoon national treasure!
