Yes to Yogi!No to Homer Simpson!
Why did he become senor Yogi in the 70's? He has a little weird mustache.
I'd have to vote for Popeye on the basis of form, with all those crazy volumes, and the fact his face looks like a set of genitals. But Yogi's more of a sentimental favorite. You just want to have Yogi around, you know, to wxtch TV with and take naps with.Yogi was my favorite any way.
That plush (?) Popeye... would that be a "pipe hole" that his pipe is sticking out from?
Popeye for his crazy structure and Yogi for his good nature.
i have a large collection of popeye so i gotta go with popeye!
Here's my vote for Yogi! I also have to show you the Fred, Barney and Dino, circa 1960, that I have.
The YogiToss is great! It adopts the same catchy asymmetries as in Ed Benedict's model sheets.
I always like how in the Ren's Retirement episode of Ren and Stimpy - the worm at the end was kind of a Fred Flintstone / Yogi mix.. "Hi-ya fellas, worms the name heh heh heh" Then he eats their guts......sweet
Are there any more pictures from different angles of that Popeye statue? It's awesome! I bet it would make a great drawing exercise.
Gotta vote popeye. :) It doesn't get much better than a brawling spinach-addicted curmudgeon (unless of course it's his Pappy)!
i used to go to kings island as a kid and they always had great hanna barbera stuff all over the park, but now it is lame. also they got rid of my favorite ride which was the haunted house. anyway the first picture reminded me of the cool costumes they used to have.
That Popeye Sculpture is the Bomb!
Okay John, I get your general point about 70s cartoons (and always agreed with it anyway), but come on, that wall-eyed Yogi at the bottom is one of the funniest things I have ever seen. It actually reminds me of some of Bob Camp's drawings of Sven.
John, This is off topic, but I just posted something to my blog that you might find interesting. I was following the Blair lessons religiously in the hopes of getting into the Cartoon College, but then had a feeling that it was more geared toward animation than just standard cartooning. Still, I thought the lessons would be valuable. In this post I show some of my work from about three years ago and then some stuff I did recently. I think you'll see proof that what you say will improve lessons does work and perhaps be gratified that you are helping people get better at what they do, and enjoying it more when they work harder.thought balloons
I particularly like that back view of Yogi, as it looks like the rascal is taking a whiz in the Jellystone snow.
I prefer Log, because it big, it's heavy, and it's wood! :)
It's looohog looohoog! It's better than bad, IT'S GOOD!
Oh, Thank you 70´s...
Both Popeyes are magnificent.
