Smokey the Foetus says "Don't grow up and be a corporate puppet who destroys all fun."

I love this puppet design concept. A nice sculpted full color 3 dimensional head coupled with a drawing of the body printed in 3 colors on a cloth rag.

The head is made by a different artist than whoever drew the body. These Terrytoons bodies look like they were drawn in Hong Kong while the heads are sculpted on the homefront. It's a great contrast and really makes the characters come to life

Man. do I wish I had a Farmer Alfalfa puppet! The greatest cartoon character in history!

Rocky and Bullwinkle made for great toys. Rocky has been eating well lately. Bullwinkle looks a little shakey. And flesh-colored!
HANNA BARBERA PUPPETS
For some reason Hanna Barbera sold more toys than any characters in history.

These bodies look like Ed Benedict's actual model sheet drawings. That's kind of cheating because they actually look well designed on purpose. The heads are on-model too, which is also against classic toy design laws.

MushMouse's proportions here are a natural wonder.

They go well with Betty's below.

"Archie, take me!!"

LESS FUN BUT STILL AMUSING

I was never too much into "realistic" characters as toys, but when they do weird things to them like this they're still kinda fun.

The giant heads make them more fun than the cartoons themselves.

Encasing them claustrophobic body bags helps.
PUPPET DEVOLUTION
Like everything else, puppets suffered the devasting mass devolution of the 1970s. Climate change caused all fun design to go extinct.
NOT A PUPPET BUT MODERN TOY NO FUN ANYMORE
This isn't a puppet but it's a good example of what happened to toy design after the 70s. Everything became bland, lumpy and wrinkly.

Why does Hillary Clinton have hooves?
What a freaky treat! Thanks for digging these up and sharing the horrifically appealing wonder ^_^
I've never seen puppets like that- freaky!
Betty Cooper is still hot, even in poorly designed puppet form!
Where do I stick my hand for one of THOSE!
I like how you can barely see Top Cat's body.
That Betty puppet scares me.
These puppets just make me wanna draw!
Bullwinkle looks like he got caught creeping into some kid's windowsill.
The Betty doll looks like something you'd find drawn on a mannequin in Archie's closet.
The last puppet has so much dignity it's disgusting.
They are like Ben Cooper costumes for your hand! Especially the Rocky and Bullwinkle ones, where they wear clothes that have their names on them.
The Betty one is disturbingly sexy for something a kid is supposed to play with. Especially with that blow-up-doll head.
The Betty puppet is the funniest of the bunch! Yeah, all kinds o' fun with that one. Just looking at the expression on her face is good for hours of laffs.
I would kill humans for the Top Cat and Magilla Gorilla puppets.
The cat and old man turned out the best.
I was born in 1988, but I do remember some of these golden oldies (or similar toys) in my sister's toy bin, and she was born in '81!
I prefered playing with these kinds of puppets because your fingers had more control, and the faces made more sense.
It's impossible to make a non entertaining toy out of a warped elderly rube cartoon character.
These are fun, I actually bought a Joe Jitsu one (the character from Dick Tracy, shown on the top of the flexi-record) because he/we had a band of the same name. It came off of eBay and will probably fall apart if breathed-on incorrectly.
Still awesome, though.
Hi, John!
GAH!!! Betty's gonna eat me!!!
The Dick Tracy is unbeatable.
NICE PICS GALLERY....THANQ
I had one of those puppets as a kid! I just don't remember what character it was!
That Betty hand puppet gives me....(looks down ashamed)...urges.
damn john! where do you find this stuff!?-THATS IT!-my next vacation im coming over to your house!
Y'all know, of course, that those newer lumpy puppets are much safer than the old ones... a kid is much less likely to actually play with it.
Thanks for linking to our site, John!
Those are magic puppets!
"Everything became bland, lumpy and wrinkly." ...and then you show a puppet of hillary clinton lol. your terrible! was that by coincidence or was that on purpose?
I want a Dick Tracy mask just like that head. That would be awesome for bank jobs, er I mean Halloween.
Vintage puppets are so awesome!

I thought the last one was Scully from the X-Files. I kind of like the hooves.
Yikes. What's with the Miss Piggy body on that last one?
The puppets though, are seriously great. They're super simple, but that's what I would have loved growing up. I was very sensitive to toys being on-model... which consequently, John, is why I never begged my parents for THIS.
