I just finished doing a project on Walter Lantz, I absolutely love his characters.

Looking as FARRRRRRRRR past that horrific pickaninny figurine as possible, of the three Lantz characters depicted, they are SO far off model that I think I could only pick Andy Panda out of a police line-up.
And why no Wally Walrus? THAT's a beloved character.

"Miranda Panda"??

Talk about off-model.

It makes me laugh reading the top tagline, "Kids love the Ideal versions of..."

as if they meant, if Ideal wasn't the company's name, "Ideally, this is what Woody Woodpecker would have looked like."

Good stuff tho.

Offensive or not, Li'l Eightball looks adorable! DO WANT. And the Andy Panda doll is near perfect. Definitely the "Ideal version", IMO.

I recently discovered a comic character more racist than anything I've ever seen. Even more racist than Will Eisner's Ebony character from The Spirit. He was called "Steamboat" and he appeared for a number of years in Fawcett's Capt. Marvel.

I had an Ideal Casper Doll in that same odd Terrycloth covering as the Bugs Dolls shown here. Oh wait, just reading the other comments I see Alessandra had one too.

I guess the Terrycloth was to make them 'cuddly' but it made them oddly furry. I thought it damn weird that Casper had this Teletubby look to him.

But without the fuzzy skin, these were some heavyduty pieces of plastic, with sound holes for the speakers. Which I suppose could have been equally disconcerting.
