I love the giant man hand.
When real life invades the cartoon universe it's always huge.
Except for the real life products which are tiny so that cartoon characters can consume them.
I'd like to make a commercial where the real life humans are small and the cartoon characters are giant voracious beasts that consume us when they run out of metabolism-boosting sugary cereal.

All of them from before the "part of this balanced breakfast" era - "balanced" meaning you also had toast and orange juice. Even as a kid, toast and cereal struck me as redundant. Wonder what they'd have thought if they'd known that what I had with toast was café au lait.
That's my favorite design of Sonny the Cuckoo Bird. Very simple, but really appealing, and amazingly, he isn't bouncing all over the screen as much in these older commercials. Tenessee Tuxedo and his pal Chumley also did a fine job of selling the cereal product.
John, you should really make some more TV commercials. Show 'em how it's done.
The current Sonny is a pretty sad sight, though. They stripped him of his signature striped shirt a while ago. Of course he has that current 'tude dynamic now. I was able to quickly find in an image search a box cover that has him "comin' at ya" in full skateboarder gear. Good thing I didn't just have some when I saw it, or there'd be little wet puffs of cocoa all over the floor...
I always liked that slightly dug-addicted cuckoo bird. And all the bastard humans tempting and enabling his sugary addiction, fun times.

My entire generation grew up with a sugar rush thanks to General Mills, God bless them.
I don't think the make those Frosty-O's anymore, Oh wait they're Frosted Cherios now I think.

Awesome! That Frosty O's video was a revelation. It was pure cartooning and the characters were blissfully ignorant. I even liked Tennessee and his friend waving their arms in the fireworks spot.
General Mills is reusing some of their old cereal box designs. I don't know if they're in markets all across the country but I have seen the old/new 'Lucky Charms' box in grocery stores in Wyoming and Montana.

Pepsi is reusing old package designs too. I saw a case of Mountain Dew cans with a cartoon of a hilbilly sipping from a jug. I was amazed that Mountain Dew was once marketed like that. It's kind of funny when you think about it... equating your super-caffeinated, antifreeze colored, sugar water with moonshine. I've only lived during the age where Mountain Dew was sold as the preferred drink of skateboarders and skydivers. The two strategies couldn't be more different.
Maybe things are changing. Once these corporations realize they don't need to pay someone to airbrush shadows on cartoon characters and their extreme sports gear accessories we'll all be able to walk down the cereal and aisle without getting a migraine.
