These are absolutely marvelous. I love the Donald Duck covers best.
Beach party, Picnic party... Man, party was a constant during Donald´s lifetime.
Man, those were great days of comic books.
I wonder who painted these, theres really nice.
I wonder why the second Porky is wearing a Donald Duck hat?
They are all great.I see that the artist was really careful to make them look like they had volume.
The "second Porky" is Porky's nephew Cicero, and that's his regular headgear.
What is the pig from the Big Bad Wolf Silly Symphony doing in the back of the Looney Tunes one at the top?
Those sure are happy looking covers. Everyone smiling like a 'tard.
Hey John, one of your former employees, Milton Knight, is trying to make a hand drawn cartoon, but needs 10,000$ by Nov. 2 in order for the project to get off the ground. Think you could help him out, or at least promote his project on your blog to get more people to notice it? Heres the link:http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1856770979/caprice-teen-of-tomorrow-wondrous-drawn-animationBy the way, what do you think of Twisted Tales of Felix and Adventures of Sonic? Did you know Ed Love did some animation for the un-aired pilot of the latter show? (link below)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EZ54vXrcVU
A Disney Article that might be of interest...
It's got martial arts, grittiness.http://blog.moviefone.com/2010/09/29/snow-white-adaptation-dark/All it is missing is tude.Mr. K, please make your film soon so this nonsense can end.
Why are there two Porkys? And why does he have on Donald's hat?Is that the hat that characters sport if they don't wear pants?
Adding to my previous comment in which I explained who the "second Porky" was, Cicero was mainly a comic book character, one of those nephews every major character seemed to have back then. Anyway, that's why I was familiar with him, but apparently he also popped up in Little Golden Books, coloring books and even a record. His Donald Duck-like sailor hat is a holdover from an earlier version of the character who wore a complete sailor suit.
Speaking of old picture books, what do you think of the Toy Story 3 picture book covers? They look Hanna Barbera-ish to me:*http://www.reviewstl.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/Toy-Story-3-Toy-Trouble-Book-Cover-Art.jpg*http://www.reviewstl.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/TOY-STORY-3_Little-Golden-Book.jpg
And here are more pages from one Toy Story Golden Book: http://lattaland.com/2010/06/toy-story-3-little-golden-book/As I said in the previous post, I like the retro style that the artist adopted
This post sent a wonderful chill up my back. I remember owning each and every one of these comics when I was a kid. They lay like dormant bits of genius in the recesses of my mind for some fifty years. Thanks for waking them up this morning.
