ComicsCrazy is a fantastic blog. This also reminded me of this other great site http://goldenagecomics.co.uk/ where you can download scans of old comics. You do need to sign up for the site and wait a day, but other than that it's all free and supposedly legal. There are a bunch Frankensteins on the site, and a few other comics that Briefer did some work in, and a ton of other great stuff.

The most outlandish flight of fancy in that entire comic is of course, being able to get a hot dog for five cents. WHAT????

When I was a kid going through my dad's warehouse of comics I would chance upon Dick Briefer's FRANKENSTIEN books. The first ones I encountered the main character was a good guy and the stories were really cartoony and funny. But then I found some of the older ones in a box one day and they were really creepy and dark and not at all funny. Or so I recall.

At any rate, I always thought that Briefer's work was very strange and imaginative. It was hard to get a handle on it, but the stories were always fun. It has been decades since I've read one, but I have good memories of the stories.

Ardy - Thanks for the kind words. I must admit that my entire Frankenstein collection came from online sources, Golden Age Comics being one of them as well as other comic blogs. Though I would love to own actual issues of Briefer's Frankenstein, they just cost too much on ebay :(
