Keyhole crotch boy is delightful! It suggests a really fun toy somehow!
John, a while back you made a post expressing your indifference to the giant robot genre. I've wondered since then, if someone hired you to create an action cartoon about giant robots (with no other instructions apart from that), what would go into your take on the show to make it appeal to you? If it would or could at all?
It's called "Panty & Stocking With Garterbelt". I think you'd really get a kick out of it, it's about these two angels who were kicked out of heaven so now they have to kill ghosts to collect "heaven coins" to bribe their way back in.
Please, please, give it a look. I think you'll get a real kick out of it.
Sorry John my last comment had nothing to do with your blog, but I am going to make cartoons. I don't dig the Hollywood groove thing so I am not going to kiss Reccardi's ass and beg for a job. I do have an investor out here in Colorado & we did some stuff for China cctv1, back in Vancouver. You could do a website where indie animators can submit their toons and you & a grand council could approve the worthy ones and it would be like hulu but indie and cooler? Like toons of the week idk? I'm a big fan of yours as many are, hope I did not offend. Jesse G.
Some of today's anime has some aspects to it that you really would detest. The eyes are flat boards on the characters faces. Everything seems to be about T&A. The characters look flat, too, and generic not just among the casts in their shows, but between other shows as well. The colours are brighter and sometimes more violent that in 'Adult Party Cartoon'. See for yourself and agree.
Oh, and watch 'Paprika' and see what you make of it. Excellent film with excellent animation. You'll probably not like the dead eyes on Paprika, though.

Astro Boy as the Tin Man?
They are making the Lorax in 3D. This is getting ridiculous
On the positive side, what do you think about this gem
It was the film that convinced me you were right about Clampett

Nice Astro boy, John!
Love the color combo! That background is my favorite!
HAve you ever thought about using the pen tool for line work in illustrator? If you want tips email me.
Great stuff! Everything Astro Boy should be
Alberta Hunter used to sing "You've got the right key but the wrong keyhole". Maybe she was thinking about this character.
Make a doll out of it.
Milt Gross meets Rex Hackelberg meets Osamu Tezuka!
You could do some very simple flash animated shorts with this type of character. No representational background- just an abstract painting.
Hi John, big fan. While you're on the topic of anime there's one that you just HAVE to check out. I know this sounds passé but this anime that I'm talking about is done in a really westernized style with few if any of the tropes you may hate about this animation style.

I came across this today in the anime Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt.
Not sure if you've seen that!
John, this is the sexiest Astrowkward boy I have ever seen-- really made my day.
