yeah illustrator can be tricky some times. but this drawing looks alright! What is it that you want to know or do in illustrator? Becouse i got some experience in illustrator. I got an diploma for graphic design :P
The feet are great. I like the perspective on the Hulk's ring-toe. The 'sphincter-ears' are too funny. I have never played with Illustrator, but I did get a tablet recently and have been playing with an open-source program called "Mypaint" that is easy to use. It is probably more limited in its' capabilities, but sometimes limits can be a good thing. I've been studying the Preston Blair stuff for a while now and I would like to thank you for turning me on to it. I found another good one that you might enjoy..."Fun With A Pencil" by Andrew Loomis. Hey John, I'm just curious why you are doing the art with Illustrator to begin with. Does the image have to be printed at a larger size that requires a vector outline? If not, it seems to me that it would be a lot less headache to outline it as you would normally with markers on paper, then scan it in and colour it with Photoshop. I used to have the old version of Illustrator (when it also required the separate Streamline program) and I never did figure out how to use it for anything, let alone digital inking. Maybe it's easier now with the CS software, incorporating the two as one along with Photoshop, but when I upgraded, I just went with the CS version of Photoshop on its own, as I figured I'd never be able to wrap my mind around Illustrator. Anyway, you seem to have caught onto it much better than I was ever able to. This piece looks great!
John- I like it! Illustrator is very hard for illustration, despite its name. I always have a hard time getting the lines to intersect or connect in the ways I want them to, it's difficult to control the flow of the line from thick to thin, and coloring is a huge pain in the ass! But you do get a nice, perfectly smooth line, which I guess is cool.
Nice pic, though. My nephew (age 4) discovered the Hulk for the first time, and it was love at first sight. A huge, muscle-bound green monster-man who screams and smashes things? Who wouldn't love that?
if you want to make an coplete drawing in illustrator than you should use a lot of layers. 1 for outlines and 1 for the main colours and another for shadows.
or you could have done it in photoshop all the way...
i hope you are using a wacom as well becouse drawing with a mouse realy sucks
i made this poster in illustrator maybe you want to take a look at it? i've posted it at my blog.

Wow! This is spectacular. I've tried my best to ink with Illustrator and for some reason I just can't nail it. Great work!
Who will win: The Hulk or the wrestler guy?
Love it!
Mind if I ask how you made the background?
I think one is meant to struggle with Illustrator. Whoever came of with the idea of drawing with a mouse?!
Anyway, not trying to be kinky or anything but my favorite part of the picture is the Hulk's toes. They're so expressive!
Well done sir. I have been using the Adobe suite for many, many years now and still havent learned the ins and outs of Illustrator.
good on ya!
It looks great.
You may be struggling with Illustrator, but the results are sweet!
This looks awesome!

This is really great John K. Did you use a tablet or a cintiq to make this?
Nice! Your Marvel comic style looks pretty sweet! I'd love to see a comic done with this kind of art!

Wow, great drawing! I really feel the intensity and force as he holds the Hulk!
AWESOME! This is the coolest drawing you've posted recently. This rules! Love the solidity, action and all of it. Great job, John!

use flash instead.
with the smoothness turned all the way down.
WOW!! amazing!!!
Did you paint this in Illustrator or Photoshop?
The bg painting really makes it...
The darkness draws the eye to the action...
The splothes, almost a freeze frame "dry splotch", showing the "power" of what will result after this valiant effort...
and of course you cant leave out the expressions, or those toes...
DIG IT!
Genius!!

Hi Pete
I don't draw it in Illustrator. I drew it in pencil, then inked it in Illustrator.
Then I took it into photoshop and colored it.
A million complicated steps.
Can you please let us know how you learned to ink like this in Illustrator?
I've been trying for a while, but it always ends up really crappy looking (too smoothed out or way too wonky...)
Thanks!
Dan

Hi John. Would it be possible if you could critique my background painting to see if there is anything that I should change or improve from it?
By the way, this commission has turned out quite handsomely.
