Bozo looks like The Joker having a bad hair day. Hey, kids! Buy this, or else the clown will eat you.
Don't you think Nostalgia can be a dangerous thing though? I mean, this stuff is great, but my generation is nostalgic for 80's cartoons and look where that's led us. Those warm fuzzy feelings of childhood can really mislead people, most of us didn't grow up with good culture like you.If you wanna see some really scary nostalgia influence just read some of the comments here.
This is when fun actually existed folks.
Hey! It's Baby Popeye!
Totally off topic, sorry. Please look at this new Disney trailer (if you haven't already) and discuss what you think. I'm not sure how to make a link in the comments, but I'm extremely interested in your feelings on this new "Winnie the Pooh" trailer.http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi1431542041/
Frank Zappa had theories about Nostalga closing in on itself, but for this boomer small amounts are enjoyable.Powli, hopefully JK will comment on that new trailer.Having seen the original Wolfgang Reitherman POOH movies Disney did around the 60 - 70's, memory suggests the new trailer's look matches the older Poohs, the CGI enhancements fit in OK, but character animation's (especially Tigger's) less energetic. Then again, it's only a trailer. :-)
Yes, nostalgia can be dangerous. It seems popular culture today is over-run with nostalgia. Part of the reason could be the easy access to media and products from all different decades, which in the past had to be acquired at comic conventions, garage sales, collectors, etc.Anyway, its important to make distinctions between nostalgic bias for something and its actual quality. I do that w/ things like He-Man, She-Ra, Thundercats, etc. I love em but I know they aren't the greatest quality shows. On the other hand, I'm also nostalgic for things that are great, even from a non-nostalgic pov, like Ren and Stimpy :) and Batman: The Animated Series. Thankfully my generation had some quality cartoons :) .
A perfect example of good/bad nostalgia: retroCRUSHThe guy does some good stuff like Women in Peril Movie Posters, Old comic ads, and cataloging terrible Halloween costumes, but he also has big 80's love."It isn't necessary to imagine the world ending in fire or ice. There are two other possibilities: one is paperwork, and the other is nostalgia." Frank Zappa
I think 90% of this blog are formed and based on nostalgia.
I just finished the Milt Gross book and put a post about Milt Gross on my blog hereI have to warn you I don't like his stuff as much as most people.
Hi John, i'm interested in your private/semi private cartoon lessons. Not sure how to go about setting up something like that, but here's my blog with some of my work. I've linked it before on past blog posts but here it is again. I live near the LA area as well. Thanks.HERE
Classic TV Networks is a good example how nostalgia is quietly a bad trend. I first realised that after re-watching the Harveytoons/Famous cartoon in a loop and never notice how bad they actually is. But i grow up by watching old stuffs than stuffs of my time except for a good amount of Ren & Stimpy, Simpsons and Beavis & Butt-Head episodes.
