The caricature is by Patrick Strogulski http://patrick-strogulski.blogspot.com/
if it didnt say hogolski id say it looks like sebastian krueger. I just made an order from your store. Are the beautiful people doodles in the mix of your phone/mystery doodles?
POWDER TOAST MYAAAAANNNNN!!!!
There will never be another. I'm not sure how many cycles of fashion we will have to go through before men are back in fashion, but it will happen again. We, as a country and as a society, can only take so many years of teeage vampires glowering at the camera or hair-plucked Jersey losers.
Right or wrong Kirk is The Man . Kirk will always be the Man. He gives nothing less then 100% in his roles.
Have you ever met him?
Kirk Douglas: the King of Manly Men.
What a bad ass. Back in the day when movie stars were stars because they were different and amazing. Not because they were generic.
Love that caricature!
I know he inspired much of your character work. Will Mr. Douglas be your muse (or one of them) for your celebrity project? My muses are Sophia Loren, Anita Eckberg and Lana Tuner. There are others, but those three are mirrored in my older character which pattern after vintage movie stars :)
Saw him on tv today, 90 plus years, after 2 strokes and he's still going strong. What a face. You captured his mannerisms so well on R&S and I can't look at Mr. Horse without thinking of his manly chin divot.
Hi John, I drew this picture of Kirk last year, what do you think?http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/1280/kirkdouglas.jpg
Caricatures and parodies of this guy always had me in stitches.
The caricature below is really great. I think real mens still exist today but there is a tiny minority.
Issur Danielovitch Demsky, a.k.a. "Kirk Douglas"!Awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1981 for his work as a Goodwill Ambassador for the US State Department since 1963.A fine man, and a great actor. Here are some quotes from Kirk, a man not afraid to speak his mind. That's MANLY!KIRK ON HIS ROLES"I've always believed virtue is not photogenic, and I think I've always been attracted to a part, uh, I'd rather play the *evil* character, most of the time, than the nice fella. And I think it really *bothered* my mother, because she would tell people, "You know, my son's not like that, he's really a nice boy!"KIRK ON ACTING"It isn't a manly profession. It's a childish profession. You couldn't be a complete, grown-up adult and be an actor . . . I mean, if I were a sophisticated adult, how could I say, "Here I am, fighting evil, represented by Yul Brynner"? You have to have a childish part of you! It's true! You know, I watch as my kids have grown up, I've watched, them, you know. Children are natural actors; they pretend they're cops and robbers, and I think all actors retain a certain amount of that within themselves. They have to, or they can't function as actors. And that's why they become self-deprecating."KIRK ON THE SENATE'S 'McCarthy Hearings' OF THE 50s"Senator McCarthy was an awful man who was finding Communists all over the country. He blacklisted the writers who wouldn't obey his edict. The heads of the studios were hypocrites who went along with it. My company produced Spartacus, written by Dalton Trumbo, a blacklisted writer, under the name Sam Jackson. Too many people were using false names back then. I was embarrassed. I was young enough to be impulsive, so even though I was warned against it, I used his real name on the screen."Some of his great movies; In Harm's Way (1965) Last Train from Gun Hill (1959) Paths of Glory (1957) 20000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954) Champion (1949)Out of the Past (1947)
Looking at the picture of the elder Kirk made me think of Indiana Jones. What do you think about the films, Mr. K: inspired reimagining or ripoff of movie serials?Thank you
gotta watch ulyesses again, he was great in that bu my 2 favorite kirk douglas performances will always be LONELY ARE THE BRAVE, saddedst ending ever and PATHS OF GLORY, greatest ani war movie ever! that last scence beyween kirk and adolph menjou is stellar!
Wow, that beard in the second picture makes him REALLY look like his son! But I wonder who that supafine female he's with is? A co-star? His wife? Whichever - one word: ROWR.
*Whups - JUST occurred to me now that commenting on the appearance of a woman standing RIGHT NEXT TO KIRK DOUGLAS is about the stupidest thing an unarmed and mild-mannered male such as myself could possibly have done.....o-h-h-h-h, jeezus.....I am scared now.....
Dude immediately check out The Big Story', a stop motion short from 94 where EVERYONE is Kirk Douglas. It's on Youtube.
