I remember this - my cousin Alex loves this stuff, I hate it, and by proxy, nature in all its cruelty. Though fascinating it is.
In my mind I ranked this up there with the small bugs that crawl up your urethra (yes, men...) and get lodged there like tiny barbs in my list of nature's top 10 most cruel jerkwads.
John obviously finds immense humor in the cruelty of nature, and life in general I think, just judging from Ren and Stimpy - so I'm hoping to see a hilarious comic of this shortly Mr. K! X)

Nature is CRU-ELL! ..but THAT'S LIFE! "Life sucks!"
Thats gross. I just hope we aren't in danger from the birds.
I wonder if any of the bird's anatomy swells up into strange colors after it eats the parasites?
Holy crap indeed!
Reminds my of the zombie ants (killer fungus).
That's so cool!
Ahh the majesy of life. Has anyone ever seen this horror show?
Hey John, don´t forget about the 'Zombie ants' controlled by parasitic fungus for 48m years!
You're welcome. -Moro and Jesus
if i have nightmares about this creatures i'll blame you!
Now I know where Mr. Mind came from.

It's like that parasite that makes mice act crazy, so they'll get eaten by cats (where the parasite wants to end up).
Let's not forget the caterpillars that are parasitized by wasps (I'm sensing a theme, here) and coerced into not only being lunch for them, but (spoilers!) giving them its own silk and then acting as a bodyguard until it dies.
Nature is beautiful and noble and peace-loving!
Nature is one sadistic bitch, isn't she? Or perhaps nature is a gang of shit kids, dreaming up horrible pranks.
This is even better than the zombie ants

That is horrifying.
I've already heard of those snails. Yes that is creepy.
Don't forget our tropical buddy the Bot Fly!
That was terrifying.
Weird, I was just trying to explain this to someone tonight.
Can't say I understand it all, sounds like such a circuitous way of sewing your wild oats.
