Popeye is most definitely interesting to look at his proportions and structure is... well... odd, but he definitely has appeal.
I'd definatley go with yes.And lets face it, whens the last time we've ever seen a hunched-over toy?
It might have nice posture, but that face is anything but natural!
What about Betty Boop?http://www.oldwoodtoys.com/BettyBoopR450.jpg
I'd say Popeye just because of the awesome sailor outfit. btw Adult swim has been showing your animation "Booboo goes wild" every night at 4AM, I never cared much for Yogi till I saw your version, now I have a great new respect for him. I'd like to see you redeem other characters. Maybe Popeye, although he's already awesome enough.
Well, the design in 3D is certainly stable. I'll give it that. And interesting--kids love interesting. But Fred is far more likable and probably just as stable a 3D figure...maybe more.
Interesting, for sure.Wonder if the folks at Sony Imageworks have one of these? They're working on the second CGI 3D version of Popeye.
@kurtwilAwshit... another CGI Popeye...And that Popeye plush looks awesome!
Popeye was and is a unique character design. Even with attempts to make him cuter over the years, the classic Popeye is still endures!
If you want an actual vote I'll go with Fred because of the crazy angles and modern-ism infused into him. For heart, I'd go for pop-eye his adventures always gave me a thrill as a young boy. And the spinach gimmick. I hated the taste of spinach but I was all but too eager to eat it as a device to gain super-powers. Then the Popeye spinach gum packs came to my rescue so that I could both enjoy feeling like I had Popeye's super-power source and get something that didn't actually taste like seaweed.
These toys look scary as hell.
Popeye is the crusty old sea salt every child wishes could be their daddy. And maybe he is. With a face like that, I bet he has a girl in every port.
as a popeye toy collector, he and gumby are the best!
I like the Popeye sculpture more than the plush. The plush Popeye looks like one of the goons, from his goon island cartoon.
John, I like the Popeye toy which still has the E.C. Segar features and attitude...BUT I am convinced that Fred Flintstone is the better 3D character. The old Flintstone Viewmaster reels were pretty well done, the Soaky bottles and the Kenner toys were cool too. I have recently seen a Pebbles cereal CGI that was well executed.Popeye is the better character but he has been imprisoned by the Hearst folks. This is why you must own your own characters.
Yes. Actually, I think I prefer Alice the Goon, but I haven't seen much of her.
The nose and chin on that second Popeye are disturbingly Freudian.Franks and beans!
Hey John,You should design off-model versions for Spümcø character toys. It'd be nice to see a yellow Ren with tiny ears and a Slab with blue hair!
I found this cool wooden barney toyfrom the flintstones :Phttp://www.flickr.com/photos/12552767@N02/5367278579/hope you like it :P
