Was there a way to tell it was supposed to be Mickey? Off model is being kind. More like Mime Mouse. Why sculpt a new face to look like the character when you can just paint up the one you already have?
It really seems like they had some spare girl doll faces and just painted them with Mickey-like features. The actual molded hairline doesn't match, and the nose is obviously human doll shaped as well. I'd like to see how the same company would paint that up to be "Donald Duck".
I think the one with the "M" on his chest is supposed to be Mighty Mouse, and came with a cape originally. Nice proportions, though. Looks like the pituitary gland fairy has paid him a visit.
This has absolutely nothing to do with this post, but I don't have your personal email. It is a lawsuit against the Weinstein's over a botched production of an animated film. Check out complaint number 115. I can't help but imagine you would get a kick out the image of Harvey Weinstein eating M&M's off a theater floor. They also paid Kevin Bacon 25K to not work on the film! I want that job. Here's a PDF. http://www-deadline-com.vimg.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/Summons_Complaint_Exhibit_A.pdf I think an animated film about a botched production of an animated film could make for some real post-modern hilarity.
RANGO's animation is much better than the ultra-twitchy cartoons we usually see, but the characters still look ugly and stupid.
If I were camping in New Mexico and saw a lizard with hair and a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle face, I wouldn't be interested in watching a movie about it, I'd smash it with my boot!
You just can't imagine how helpful your explanation's been for me. I'm working on my first, totally handcrafted, cartoon and just wanna make it the way I feel cartoons should be made (ie. the golden age way). Actually I thought there would be some kind of secret technique of something like that, but what you said shows me that I'm already on the right track (I've been developing exercises on my own to get a sense for different beats from the metronome, I can visualize on 8's/180bpm so far). I've noticed you just started a blog. I'll be dropping by regularly for sure!!

Must of drank LOTS of milk.
What I'm feeling... is this wrong?
what the ....
Who knew cartoon characters could get rickets?
Reminds me of that creepy scene in 'The Shining' when Wendy looks into the room and there's that guy in the creepy 'furry' get-up.
I would take that baby everywhere.
That one at the top has arms like a Thalidomide-baby.
That long top guy looks like Mickey and Porky's love-child

Honestly...sid these toy designers EVER see a drawing of Mickey before they made this?
I think this is a bit off model.
It looks funny.
Conclusion:
Off model = Funny
Just flat-ass ugly.

Hello John,
Could you please tell about Bill Hanna's method of timing Tom and Jerry?
Thanks,
Arturo
Oh God my eyes
looks like he has veg growing out of him.
Like to see the genius who thought this up.
I think my first layout drawings of Ren were about 13 really skinny heads tall.
That's too sexy to be Mickey. I think it 's Annette Funicello.
Say what you will about model accuracy (as if that ever matters), these are toys I could actually picture a toddler carrying around the house.
It's...
It's like Mickey and Astroboy had a baby.
I shoudn't ever check this blog before bed... this will cause nightmares for sure
I decided I like Mickey better this way, so I redesigned him to look like the toy.

Interesting off model Mickey/Minny or whatever it is...
Meanwhile, RANGO, a new 3D animated film, harks back to the day when cartoon voice actors truly interacted:

Did JK Ren and Stimpy cartoons have actors in the same room reading lines at the same time?
haha, I've always loved these weird old toys!
