I grew up completely in love with the illustrations of Libico Maraja in my father's old copy of Pinocchio. Here's one: http://bochoart.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/pinokio-1.jpg

I would kill to have these paintings hung on my wall.

The three bears image seems a tad inappropriate. LOL.

These are fantastic.
There are also some other great russian cartoonists but i forgot the names...

The fox and gingerbread man ate some of those amanita muscaria mushrooms. That's why the colors seem so pretty.

Whoa!!! That Rapunzel illustration is amazing! I must have seen this book as a kid. Had to have.

That Goldilocks illustration is rather strange.

Nice Illustrations. But yeah, the three bears are clearly taking advantage...

You know, I think I had that three bears book as a child. I remember that image of Goldilocks being caught in the bed and how awkward and surprised she looked.

Those bears look real enough to pet. I wouldn't do that though, because they also look real enough to eat me.

If you'd like to discuss Russian illustration further, may I suggest a look through the works of Yuri Norstein?

Excellent stuff. Love his composition, especially the rhythm and colors.
