Your comments remind me of the struggle Frank Zappa had in finding musicians that supported his songs. Usually this scenario evolved: A musician would talk to or be discovered by Frank, Frank would ask him/her to join his band. Put on Salary, the musicians would be coached/pushed until they hit their "wall" at which Frank backed off a bit, gave them room to play and offered unusual opportunities like talking under a piano, etc. Only when the musician burned out, used drugs, or lost interest in Franks' music would Frank fire the musician and seek a replacement.
Frank's kind of environment seems ideal for animation (Bruce Bickford benefited from it) but barely exists today (how can it when nearly all positions are contract, short term?). Then again it took Frank awhile to have a big enough income stream to make it possible.
As Robert said, hopefully an animation loving Bill Gates type person comes forward and bestows funds for JK's projects.
You know what would be funny...if in a few frames starting at '33,' George inserts and then pulls the bill of his hat out of one of Stimpy's magnificent nostrils. Some hairs pulling out on the extraction, and then snapping back in, would top it all off. Goddammit. I've got stuff to do so that my girlfriend doesn't get pissed, but I have to go draw, now. Thanks, John...I hope you are proud of yourself.
Awesome stuff! One thing I don't understand - Amazon says "Wilderness Adventure" is on the Season Five dvd - but imdb has no list of it having ever aired.
Is the one on the dvd a Games knock-off - or just the animatic? Any resemblance to these layouts?
I thought I'd try setting up a color still from this scene. I don't think the background actually sets the right mood for the scene, but it was made up of pre-existing parts.
Hey, thanks for looking, it's a honor! That's exactly what I pictured as far as the background, I only use a day scene because it was handy, and fit the theme.
I hadn't thought of tinting it to night colors, though, so I reworked it a bit closer to the right mood. I still picture a better, more dynamic one, though. I don't excel at backgrounds, but I'm improving.
I think I may have an animatic of this scene that Eric Bauza made. I can't remember if Mike Pataki did the voice. He must have...
