I've never seen Ren's head squeezed THAT thin.
Powdered Toast Man was my favorite character.
Like the long-faced Ren.
Wow, you have to explain that first drawing please. I like it but I want to know the story behind your thinking if you can remember it. It's a really cool idea/style.
Oh man I love Mr Horse.
Glad to see Mr. Horse here. He's a goddamn awesome character.
holy canoli! john you have such an incredible sense of style. you never show it off because of the drawings we see of yours are very quick (storyboards/ bacon doodles etc). You painted anything you'd be proud enough to show us?
The little man in the first drawing makes me think of Ralph Steadman's work a bit. Which is fitting because I think that you may be the closest thing to a Gonzo cartoonist if there ever was such a thing.
I remember when I first saw Powered Toastman. I begged my mom to find the Powdered Toast in the grocery stores and she gave me a weird look. All of the drawings are incredible!!!!
New comic!Don't Let This Happen To YouI never know whether to put Rumpus or blog so I put Rumpus this time... All roads lead to Rome...
Sgt. Horse is great!
Hahaha, Awesome! Really like the Muddy Mudskipper doodles
Powdered Toast...MAN!Ah, those were the days when cartoons were fun again.
Oh That Powdered Toast Man makes me cry with its beauty! They are all so beautiful! And remind me of the world of my 13 year old mind and wanting to draw like this...
Is the top image a commentary on those 'flat' Cartoon Network cartoons you hate so much?
Hey John, we'd love to see you do some new Muddy Mudskipper drawings!
Mr. Horse is THE BEST!!!
Muddy should have had a cameo in Avatar.Who do you think would win in a wrestling match between Powered Toast Man and Mr. Horse?
Oh man, PTM and Muddy Mudskipper are so great. PTM has a hilarious body going on, but those mudskipper drawings are so rubbery and squishy and cute.
These are so great. If you could come up with a story that involved Powdered Toast Man and Mr. Horse fighting (very seriously), I think it'd be the funniest thing ever.
LOOOOOOOOOOOVE THESE! Especially the Powdered Toast man and Mr. Horse ones!
Powdered Toast Man should be on all How To Draw Human Anatomy Books.
I like it!When do we get to see your analysis on the modern cartoons you consider good (i.e. Gorillaz, Beavis and Butt-Head, etc.)?
"Muddy should have had acameo in Avatar.Who do you think wouldwin in a wrestling matchbetween Powered ToastMan and Mr. Horse?"Definately Mr. Horse as he moves more than powdered Toast Man.Love these sketches, maybe I can draw this well someday. I'll just have to gain control of my pencil, in a year or two, I'll be better.
I just saw these first two in the season 1 & 2 bonus features. I put this disc in to watch "Man's Best Friend" again, and then went through the production drawings. I can only imagine the actual amount of pages like this that must exist. I know I've covered a few trees worth of paper with the same kind of sketches over the years.
Are these Jim Smith's?
no, they're mine-except the Muddy Mudskippers, which may be Chris Reccardi's.
I must say, some of those drawings are particularly manly looking though, which is why my mind instantly went to Jim Smith.
Hey John, I bought Adult Party Cartoon and there's a slip that comes with it where it says "To my best friend, ________". I put my name there, and I want to know if I really am your best friend.
Do you have to be crazy to draw crazy?
Just when I think I'm making some progress in my drawing skills...thanks for keeping me humble John K. Love your work!
Man, love looking around in here when you post your sketches.Post more sketches John. Enough toys already. Sheesh.
How much $ for that top one?
Um, yeah, do you sell these? (hope it is not rude asking this)
Powdered Toast Man was a huge favorite for me when I was a kid. I even sent him a toast-shaped fan letter after reading the PTM comics back in the day. He always brings me back to the good ol days!
Well John, I'm awaiting your assurance of being my best friend according to the APC DVD sheet...
Long Live Ren & Stimpy, they're the best. Thanks a lot to you and your animation crew, mr. Kricfalusi, for soooooo many good laughs with this amazingly crazy cartoon. Cheers from Brasil!
Did anyone else in the television animation business when you were working put nearly as much work as you did?Thank youGreat drawings!
