So I guess the pink huckleberry hound was in fact fake then. Anyway, the Stimpy model looks fantastic, I guess we all have to evolve to CGI eventually eh?
Damn it, John! I was determined to prove to you that CG does have potential to be wild and wacky and cartoony just the way you like it -- I haven't seen anybody do it right, but I know the potential is there -- and now you're going to beat me to the punch!
Hi John, this is totally off topic, but I recently purchased the Max Fleischer Popeye cartoons and caught your commentary. You and Eric Goldberg made the best comments and you added your own touch of funny! Could you tell me what other cartoon archives that have your commentaries? F.Y.I., I already have the Looney Tunes set and Ren Stimpy.
Wow, a little stunned to see a 3D Stimpy on this site, looks great though. I guess this means it's ok to show one I modeled a while back - http://www.graphite9.com/WIP/3DStimpyWIP.png Not as appealing as the one you have though.
BTW - if you are using Maya or Cinema 4D for this and want the character rigged for animation just let me know, I work as a freelance CG rigger/animator using both of those programs.
a)--Was Clampett interested in computers' power of animation in the 80s, since Pixar was making short films during that time?
that's a very good question. Sadly, Clampett would not live to see Pixar's true potential
b) John K., that's some cool stuff you did with a 3D graphics program like Maya, but,... I would like to know whatever happened to the Bosko and Oswald animations? I was gonna study 'em. Please reply me back.
Hi John I made George Liquor in 3d for fun, it is unfinished but if you would like it I can email you the obj file. Here are the some pics of him. http://www.sabarr.com/george001.jpg http://www.sabarr.com/george002.jpg http://www.sabarr.com/george003.jpg Thanks for all your continual inspiration.
Sorry for the unrelated comment, but I would really like to hear your opinion on Freleng's "Slick Hare" It doesn't have the fun abandon of what I have seen of Clampett but seeing the gorgeous caricatures done in the cartoon make 98% of current animation look like trash.
Check the rig video of the parrot from the Meindbenders animation (swedish animation studio) http://features.cgsociety.org/story_custom.php?story_id=6208
I think something like this would look awesome with your style of characters and animation.
theres another rig demo they have http://vimeo.com/22844101
id imagine Ren would benefit from rigging like this.
That Duplicator rig is interesting. It seems designed to do some things that are distinctly 2D. Things that only work from a certain angle. The pose where the mouth opening wraps around the side is clearly only meant to be seen from the front. That's not how most CG characters have been designed, where they're more like virtual puppets that always work from all angles.
That's one way to combine 3D and 2D approaches. There's no reason CG can't be used to do some of those impossible, rule-breaking poses. Unless you're aiming for actual 3D video, the end result will be a flat image anyway.
Wow! Stimpy Looks Great In CGI! I Wonder What Ren Would Look Like? BTW, I've Heard Some Rumors On FB That You're Currently Trying To Get Rns On Cartoon Network? Is That True? - Jason Goodwin
What a surprise, everyone's shocked even though John's said that he sees potential in CGI like a dozen times now.
I have a ridiculous idea on how cartoony CGI animation might work, and I say ridiculous because I have no knowledge of the medium other than the time and literal programming required to make it. Suppose the amount of frames is cut down to what you might find in a high-budget TV special, rather than the nonstop fluidity you see in any CGI feature. Maybe then it would be more feasible to begin morphing individual parts to form expressions on a level of specificity and exaggeration once thought to be impossible. No doubt it would still be time consuming, since the average CGI film takes about a couple of hours for each frame to be rendered to the final product, but maybe after cutting the frame count down it could just work. "Limited CGI animation" is the best way I can describe it.
If you ever do manage to get CGI to work under your thumb John, it would of course be the biggest comeback anyone's ever seen for someone in the animation business, so if you begin devoting more time to CGI, I'm cool with it. Good luck, man. I know I'll make working with CGI a fair portion of my diet when I eventually start my career.
It begins...John is finally going to revolutionize the way computer animation is done! I cant wait for john k animation in full 3D. His characters are amazing flat, i cant even image the life and personality his characters will have with a whole new dimension for john to play in! Now im starting to get excited!

That looks awesome! You're doing 3D now?
Stimpy in CGI??!! I never thought I'd see the day. I thought you of all people would have held out much much longer.
Oh well, the model certainly looks good. Now let's see if you can animate Stimpy with that same verve he has in 2D.
So I guess the pink huckleberry hound was in fact fake then.

the Tech is getting there, for studios its there. And now for the regular joe on the street .. its close.
Check these out: getting close to 2d? http://vimeo.com/2274969

its shape animation in blender to maya, Im still looking into it tho, very promising.
Honestly, this is the greatest CG model I've ever seen.

I would pay top dollar for a Stimpy Nose-lamp

Ohhhh, shiny.
The second one from the bottom looks like a Mr. Potato-head Stimpy.
I had a suspicion that Huck was yours. Now you made Stimpy! Great job there, John!

I like it's asymmetries
Ah, also, what program is that you are using? Maya or Autodesk 3ds Max maybe?
YOU can make it happen. You can be anything you wanna be. Beautiful - sexy. Just let your nose glow.

Also, awesome Stimpy!
Welcome to the Twenty First Century.
I hope this isn't the end of cell animation.

I wonder if Ren would ever work in 3d due to his interchangable design. This looks pretty cool though. :)
Was Stimpy modeled in Maya, John? Who is doing the textures?
Yes, Maya. There aren't any textures yet.

Hey, John, with those colors, they should be like Stimpy's brothers. Watch out, Ren.
-Nicholas T. Perkins
Hi Simon
that George is funny. How long did it take you to make that?
Your pal,
John

A night.
He was funny to model, always good to be able to laugh as you work.

Hey John,
Who animated the 3d Jimmy from the björk video?
Charlie Gibson at Rhythm and Hues. It began with mocap.
DO AN ANIMATED MOVIE!
are you selling anything at comicon this year?
Wow! Stimpy Looks Great In CGI! I Wonder What Ren Would Look Like? BTW, I've Heard Some Rumors On FB That You're Currently Trying To Get Rns On Cartoon Network? Is That True?
- Jason Goodwin
No, nothing like that.
By the way, are you planning on rigging this and making any animations? I'd like to see how your style of timing in animation would look in 3d.
saddest day in animation history since glen keane decided to waste his time on computer animation
A 3D Stimpy?! Say it aint so!
What a surprise, everyone's shocked even though John's said that he sees potential in CGI like a dozen times now.

Stimpy in 3D, now that really shows why construction and solid design are definitely important and need emphasis.
Oh dear god no, CG just doesn't have the warmth of 2D, there is no way Ren and Stimpy would look good in it.

I thought The Horton Hears A Who film was pretty cartoony for a CGI film, not like the Pixar or Dreamworks puppet shows.
