Personally, I think the funniest thing of all is seeing a person who IS genuinely smart and talented and imaginative get fucked over anyway. You can talk all you want about humanity, but when you get right down to it, few things about life are as funny as it's unfairness. Also, I rarely, if ever, laugh at something because it "provides an escape" - I think it's really more of a duality that works
