I've seen this bit about 20 times now and every time I see it I fall on the floor laughing.

This hand is Frank Nastasi. It's the best actor on TV.
The odd thing is that someone wrote a ton of dialogue for the bit, but none of it sinks in. It's just there to give Soupy something to say to instigate the trunk pee.
Soupy's reactions though are genius.

Half the the time I don't even know what the dialogue is! Soupy being drenched by stage hands throwing buckets of water (pretending to be an elephant) is just that funny. He has one of those faces that begs to be punched or something like that; maybe it's his limp bowtie. I love how we only see Frank's hand in these front door scenes. Not seeing his face makes it better somehow.
I agree that dialogue can often be useless. However with words or without, I really don't think this is a funny clip. I don't see the humour in repeating the same slapstick joke over and over. Maybe I'm just used to more 'modern' TV shows.
....which repeat the same joke for their entire existence. And do nothing else.
