I tried putting white highlights in his eyes with white out. That crap never works. So I had to go in and try retouch some stuff. Well there you have it. Now back to animating.
Nice drawing! Kind of an abrupt ending to the post. Do you trust us to go do our own drawings? YOu should trust us. Sometimes these abrupt endings aren't necessary.
These series are amazing!! Thanks so much John for sharing! Its soo inspiring, beautiful and educational!!! & I want to buy one or a print of these one!!!
It's nice to see you draw with some materials I'm familiar with, John. I color with markers fairly often, and even though my shaky, impatient hands aren't the best at it, it still ends up enjoyable.
It's nice to see such an in-depth process from you regarding markers, John. I use markers fairly often, and I still enjoy the process even though my shaky, impatient hands are not the best at it. I sympathize with the struggle to find just the right color for a character.
Ah yes white out. I've tried that once too and it was pretty annoying stuff. Love every bit of the drawing! Even the colors you chose for you're signature!
You're such a thoughtful colorist, man. I wish you'd paint these. Markers are garish and horrid and remind me of advertising hacks and fashion designers. Anyway, i go f**** myself. Hope you're doing well.
Have you tried white gouache to highlight, John? It's way easier than white-out and doesn't come out all globby and you don't have to worry about it yellowing over time. You can ink over it, too! Dunno if you can color over it with markers, though.
As someone who inks I know whiteout is entirely useless. If you need the paper to be really white and a mistake unnoticable then even the white paper whiteout pens are better. The ones that just basically put a thin sticker of white, whatever paper on your paper.
Depending on how white your paper is of course, this may or may not be a good idea.
But even gouache can look horrible if your paper is super white and you are working in just black and white. As gouache will leave a bump or texture on the paper.
But if you don't care or it is for scan purposes, or you have some color on there, or whatever, you can try that for the eye highlights. I put a little dip of it on the backend ofa brush and just dab it on. There is probably a smarter way of doing it.
I was going to start praising pots of white gouache, also known as "Process White" too, as the best method of adding white to ink work, but two people have beat me to it.
What Markers do you use? I like working with ink alot, But I tend to run into the problem of a limited pallet with the particular pens I use. I've just never really experimented with markers & these look fantastic & appear to have a broad pallet.
And look what I found! Seems as though Ren isn't too far off from Peter Lorre after all! How come they never implemented this aspect of him when they drew him for the Warner Bros. cartoons? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Xuw-XKP1sI
I think it would be cool if you made a cartoon starring ren and stimpy to show viewers how much they've evolved since their recent roles. It would be nice to see them in action again.

Thank you.
I love the way the letters look the way they sound.
So much glorious appealing colour!
Museum worthy.

Woooow! A memorable set of posts!
John, that's amazing!! I miss using markers myself.
Send you a comment explaining why. I`m sorry if this sounds kind of rude. It´s not my intention.
Using white out for highlights seems to only work for Sam Kieth.

Try a dab of white gouache.

+1 for white gouache!
