I've been drawing old movie stars while watching my favorite channel.
I don't know how TCM does it but there are no commercials and they show all kinds of classic stuff that you would think would get them protested with torches and pitchforks.
Old movie star and character actors' heads are so unique and beg for caricature.
Les Girls
Kay Kendall looks like she was drawn by a 50s fashion illustrator - I mean in real life.
There are some stars I thought would be easy to caricature that actually turned out to be difficult - like Mitzi Gaynor.
Taina Elg was pretty beautiful, but I only have one of her. I'll try again another time.
Office Wife
Office wife is a hilarious movie that could never be made today. It stars one of my heroes, Lewis Stone.
Luise Rainer
Luise has the weirdest acting style and a beautiful unique face. I haven't quite captured her yet.
My friend Mike gets mad whenever I try to to get him to watch a movie with Warren William in it. I didn't like him at first but he's grown on me. He has a great voice and the world's greasiest hair. That's Ann Dvorak with him.
Here are some more randomly selected.
Van Johnson is a guy who is quite odd-looking for a leading man. The guy on the left is a crappy attempt at William Powell.
I forget the name of the guy on the left. He's a character actor who usually plays a villain - mostly in westerns. I totally forgot who the woman is and what movie they were in.
Ever notice how tiny Errol's eyeballs are? His short brow accentuates them.
One of my favorite movie heads is owned by Jay C. Flippen.
I used to confuse him with another character actor who has a big protruding head and small pinched face. i don't know his name but next time I see a movie with him in it I'll take a note and maybe do a comparison caricature page with him and Flippen.
