These are pretty good. Let me know if you want a public critique.

Here's one Kali did. I hope some young artists will do some of the other angles too. It really is a good exercise and will help your animation.
Remember when you draw these to be very slow and careful, especially with your first steps. If you get the basic shapes out of proportion or wonky, all the details will be too!
Leave all your construction lines on the drawing. Don't erase them after, ok?
Old cartoon characters share the same construction as this well designed and sculpted toy. If you wanna aim to animate this well, you gotta start with learning construction.

This fellow is working hard, but maybe not following the instructions exactly.
Start by drawing the basic shapes-the oval for the head, and then add the overall muzzle shape. Get those right first, then break each shape into its smaller components.
Don't erase the construction lines.
Try again, and go slower and more careful!

Wow, Jennifer! I hope you have something left over for Christmas presents! Wanna adopt a kid?

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA! Well, if Doris Duke could adopt an adult as her own, maybe I could. :D
I'm not an artist, but I really appreciate good artists. I also think that what you're doing with this cartoon college is fantastic. I can only imagine the time and effort that you put into the lessons.
I haven't done it yet because I'm behind a few lessons. Life keeps interfering. I fully intend to however. I heartily appreciate these lessons though and am and will definitely continue to take advantage of them. I'll start on Top Cat as soon as I can.
My Bugs Bunny lesson, and some Preston Blair stuff is here:

I've done some more that I haven't scanned yet.
You're doing a great service to mankind! (And I'll donate as soon as I've paid my insurance and Christmas presents!)
The fall term is almost over, soon I will have time for practice! :)
Still working on it, trying to get consistency on the head from different angles.
I hope you're investing that money into making cartoons.
If it was enough to make cartoons, I would.
Where's a Texas Tycoon when you need one, hahah....
Kali did a nice one.
I hope I can give it a try as soon as possible... Because I really find it important to practise this kinds of things.
At the moment I can't make time for it :( But in a couple of days I will upload a Jink ;)
Still folowing the blog everyday!
Had a little time during finals to pull off a first attempt. I'm definitely doing it again after finals are over.

I'll do the rest very soon!
I gave it a shot - only did four of them though. I'll hopefully be able to work on the other ones at the weekend

Thanks for the critique, John. If I had the chance, I would donate a few bucks right away (I don't have a bank account, yet.). I'll try to redraw these and post them onto my blog as soon as I can.
Hello, John. I tried to do your Jinks Toy exercise. If you ever get a chance to see these, thank you very much.

Here's mine. Feel free to publicly criticize it.
JINX!
hey John,
Thanks for using that! A public critique would be great, I'd really like to know how to get less scratchy linework. Tear me to shreds!
Im doing the other angles now, I'll put 'em up later tonight.
Hey, John,
I've done my first redrawing. This time, I lightly went over the very light blue construction guidelines and the main forms in black, so that you can see them more clearly.

well, I haven't gotten around to Jinxy yet, or even Top Cat, but i did attempt the milt gross/art lozzi combo... take a gander if you feel so inclined:

I promise that soon my admiration and appreciation will translate into a much deserved donation for your invaluable education.
I've posted some Top Cat exercises, and plan on finishing the other seven views by the weekend and then I'll begin on Jinxie.
Yeah, can you critique mine?
Thanks.
Heres a couple of attempts:
here!
What a great assignment. I wish somebody would have come up with this idea when I was in college. In drawing toys from different angles, the ideas of perspective really begin to sink in fast.
Some of my attempts at Jinx
Hope you don't mind if not-so-young people these exercises. I've got two views of Jinks drawn, will do the other two today hopefully. They're not as good as most of the ones that have been posted, but there's only one way to get better, right?
Critique? Yes please!
Just sitting at work waiting for something and wanted to give it a shot.

Here's my first attempt at Jinks. I learned a fair amount - think I may go back and do it again, though, to see if I can come up with something less embarrassing.
Alright John, not sure if this is too late, but here is my shot at the toy lesson.

John, I just finished and posted one drawing of jinx. I will attempt more later, but I would love to hear if I am on the right track. Feel free to publically flay my humble offering, I would be delighted for any insights.
Peace!
ya know what, here is an easy-t-click link so ya don't have to copy paste:
Kelly's Jinx
I personally think I made a mistake by shading it, it obscures the forms. Hope you can still get an idea of how I built the head.
Hello, John ~
I just finished one of the Jinks heads, and will post more tomorrow if possible.
You're the greatest, and so is your blog!
Hi John, another student of yours trying to get better...
http://deltadada.blogspot.com/2007/12/jinx-puppet-studies.html
Just need a bit more practice I think.
Thanks for your continuing inspiration!
Whoops.. here is a direct link to the Jinks head.
Hey John,
Thanks for all your hard work.

Alright John
Did some more practicing this time in Flash with the Jink's head. Please let me know what you think.
