D-9's looks the funniest to me, I forgot what you said about these drawings in the previous post though, if they were for devlopment or got used for one of the music video segments?
Those are fantastic.
Great drawings.kinda unrelated but-Remember the movie Splash, when Daryl Hannah needed to choose a name, she chose Madison because she heard it from a street name? I just think that's funny because at that time Tom Hank responded like it was ridiculous to choose "Madison" as a name. Now it is common. I wonder if that movie started the trend...
I like D-6 the best... But they're all great.
It's funny, but anytime I've happened to see "Class of 3000", I've been drawn to the Madison character, because of her inate quirk factor and the mix of cute and goof. Normally, these cartoon archetypes are boys, so it's refreshing that a dorky girl is so well developed and executed. As an animator and cartoonist of cereal commercials I've been scared that my client well will run dry, and am going in the direction of series animation. John, I've met you on several occasions over the years, and like so many others, I'm inspired and provoked by your words and encouragement for all of us trying to continue to create and push the medium. You've made me aware that cartoonists that can write well, are a rarer commodity in this careerfield- so I have been emboldened to go forward and take more risks in this uncertain time for my advertising work. Thanks, John- Bill Field
Wow John! These are great!
Hey, Mr. Kricfalusi- I love reading your blog and think the lessons you teach are invaluable to artists everywhere. That said, I just discovered The Thief and the Cobbler, and was wondering if you had any insights or insider information on it?
> Ever try combining cute with retarded?I think that's what Family Circus is for.
Cute and retarded - a great combination for funny drawings, and these look magnificent! Each pose is lively, funny and appealing. Wonderful stuff. One unrelated thing... what happened to "Classico"? I thought it was going to be included as the bonus on the DVD of Tenacious D movie, but it's not mentioned in any review. That mini-masterpiece deserves to be seen in the good quality, instead of low-res video clip on the Internet.
Isn't cute but retarded exactly what Dee Dee is on Dexter's Lab?
Yeah, and she's great!
D6 rocks my world.
video clip pleeeeeeease!!I like dee dee too, now there was a flat cartoon i liked.
Great sketches! I try to go for those loose gestural sketches myself
These drawings are great!
Hey John. Are you referencing any actual dance moves or are you just drawing out of your head?
"Ever try combining cute with retarded?"Everyday of my life! Well, I try to throw cute in there- that's the hard part!!!!!!I need to work on my appeal in my drawings. You and Katie are my idols when I look for how it's done!
I love the D-7 drawing!
The seventh one is my favorite. I posted a new drawing on my blog.
Wow I cannot WAIT to see all of this animated. I wonder what it's for??
most of the girls in naked beach frenzy are borderline retards ;)
These are great! My personal favs are D-2, 3 and 11. Love the crazy limbs!
Whats this Madison character? Is it a new animation?
Evan,Yes, the movie "Splash" spawned a whole generation of girls named Madison. They're in their late teens and early twenties now. For a few years in the USA it was the most popular female name.
Awesome... of course! I love the sudden SPAZ! move. It's funny and cute, yeah, but what I really like about it is the lack of self-consciousness the character displays. Kids can be hilarious that way- one minute they're walking normally and the next, they're doing wiggly, retarded dances. IN PUBLIC.
Brilliant! Sell "THE HEARTACHES", already!
Funny Madison!AHHAHA!I love this sketches!!!
