Interesting choice of music, By The Beautiful Sea from the 1914 musical, For Me And My Gal. All these cartoons from 1929 up to the mid 1960's featured great popular music - real popular music, stuff that mom and dad and the kids knew. Today, studios are unwilling to budget money for music licensing to allow the musical director for a cartoon to use snippets here and there of popular tunes to enhance the score, create a connection with the audience, etc., and a lot of scores seem to have become nothing more than a collection of cues, or unimaginative bits and pieces that might as well not be there.
John, I want to show you two separate Animaniacs Skits.
the first is a terrific cartoon from the first season. faced paced, well boarded, effective takes, full range of expressions, and when it all comes together, the results are hilarious. it's just a joy to watch. this episode would have looked and felt terrific even if it hadn't been animated by TMS. notice how the visuals are not willfully conservative, and enhance the dialog to the point where one must coexist the other. this is not "illustrated radio". Hello Nice Warners
I just wish I knew who storyboarded it. whoever did has alot of talent, and seemed to be given alot of freedom
the next skit, from season three, is NOT the same. it plays out as an especially a poor, unconfident radio show with even poorer animation slapped onto it as nothing more then a tool used to disguise this messy piece of crap as a "cartoon".The writing is awful. it is so abysmal that the characters themselves must address that they are in a "cartoon" and everything happening is meaningless. you feel bad watching it. the characters you loved in the first 65 episodes turn out to be nothing more then self-referential, unhappy drones who resort to referencing the very poorness of the program that they are in. I won't ask you to sit through the whole thing. I almost didn't make it.
I just want it to be noted that,IN it's initial run, this program was not NEARLY as terrible as you experienced it to be. I just think it's a bit of an injustice.
I would be very greatful to hear your opinion on th first cartoon. It's interesting that, as the production went on, the show became exactly what you said it was in the first place.
this is a very bizarre yet fun animation. I do feel a little perverted after witnessing that, probably because of the animators way of drawing all the rolls on the hippo and the way it slithered through the bath tub. The hippos butt was a nice climax as well.

You just like butts.
is this a 12x beat?
HAHA it's great. It's so cool when you see that he turns in his bathtub.
I like these cartoons. I recently saw "swing you sinners". I like this over the top crazy things that happens!
What the hell was that sneaky little rabbit up to?
Saturday is bath time.
Are butts not one of the funniest pieces of anatomy? Whoever animated that probably thought so.

I submit this Japanese piece as meeting all five criteria to one degree or another:
Ohhhhh... MANGO!

I never knew personal hygiene could be so much fun until I watched the hippo bathing.
Hello Nice Warners
this link should work.
I'd give anything to see that real live hippo try to cram its body into that tiny tub.
I love the somersault he does in the bathtub. It's completely impossible, fun, AND believable, all in one fowl swoop!
- trevor.
ps: What luck to find that picture of the hippo at the bottom, eh?
I need to start learning how to do that
This whole cartoon is a trip- But I captured the hippo part because of the nice physics hahahha.
Wow that's cool!
