Them cows look freaky.
I remember this one vividly from my childhood. The awkwardness of this calf and big expressive eyes struck me even then.
No, not freaky, just specific - based on observation, not cartoon cliché. Ever seen a real cow's eyes? He (is it Owen?) definitely captures something real here - as he almost always does whether he's drawing humans, animals, exteriors or interiors.
Hey John. I finally managed to take a crack at the Yogi balloon. My new scanner made everything super light, so you might not be able to make out the construction, but it's there. Kinda weird how these studies looked so good when I did them on paper, but then when I scan them, they come out looking super crummy.I also attempted a comic cover, and one of Harvey Eisenberg's drawings. Here's the study if you wanna take a look. Puffy Yogi Study
Yep! That reminds me of a real cow.The eyes have a long lash and look feminine in a sorta way. Nice. But yes where is the udder? Is the thing male? It looks more like a cow than a bull so auugh wtf
The comics for Dennis were pretty funny, though I never did take to the animated series. What did you think of it John?
Alright. Here's the updated blog post with all the proportions checked. Since I don't have and can't afford Photoshop, I just used Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 to make the overlays.Study
Jeff smith is an incredibly tight artist. This is more stylistic. But yah I think I'm seeing the connection Sparky
hey john, was wondering if you saw this, i don't know how to make it a link:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFEE-Jgr7sw
sparky & james-- calves don't have udders, any more than baby humans have boobies. it's called puberty, son. also, in case you're wondering, only the girls get 'em.also, as a former farm boy, I can verify that these are some really good drawings of cows.
Hi John, I made a badge for my blog to link to your site. Let me know if this is okay.
I don't recall reading that issue. Which one is it? Was it from a Special or just the monthly?
I just find Jeff Smith's Bone as a library not far where i work this morning and tough it's badly french translated, the concept sounds very fun. But why Bone reminds me so much of Casper? But i never tough it was created in 1991, i thinkin it was made currently.
Great cows. The eyes are completely realistic. Cows' eyes are as big as billiard balls and overloaded with gentle soul. Looks like Owen Fitzgerald. -- Mykal
