Quite a valley between the first set of pics and the last set. The Clampett pics are clearly better than the Jones and Disney ones.
I saw alot of equally good caricature of expressions and stuff in "Stimpy's Invention" yesterday, you should do a post about it.
Was Ren`s first wide smile in that cartoon (where the left side of his mouth smiles and then his right side smiles with a sort of tension-and-release type timing) inspired by the timing of Satan`s wings opening in `Night On Bare Mountain` in Fantasia?
Bob Clampett's a genius, Coal Black and the Sebbin Dwarfs had me in tears I laughed so hard. the exaggerated expressions of prince Chawmin are a riot, and the timing and music superb. Too bad this cartoon is deemed racist by todays politically correct crowd.its a classic example of great animation.
John, you are ruining my viewing pleasure. I have become educated to the tragedy that is modern animation. I am getting dissatisfied with what is being produced. I was watching a cool 3-D CG animated short, and in few spots my thoughts went "needed to pull the expression out a little more extreme" For crying out loud, the guy sees a huge Nazi robot attack the US Navy in the harbor, a little more shock on his face than if he had just discovered his dog left him a feces present on the floor would have been appropriate. Thanks for the education.
i could stare at those Warner Bros pictures all day. What do you think of Art Davis, Frank Tashlin and Norm Mcabe's cartoons? they have some very wacky moments at times.

Nice
thanks for all the knowledge.
I forget what it's called- but that short with the babies flying a ship in space has some amzing animation in it.
You're beginning to show images you've posted before.
Oh, Joy!
No argument. The creators of Treasure Planet should be ashamed.
...what the hell are Chip and Dale doing?
I especially like the famous Disney character Ballsac Bulldog.
See ya
Steve
Ballsac Bulldog?
The only bulldog I can see here is Dirty Bill from "The Robber Kitten"....is there a character among them drawings named Ballsac?
Brilliant quote. Beautiful examples!
I don't mind if they are images you've posted before. I could look at them again and again and be just as tickled by them!

Its "Wynken, Blynken and Nod" that you are thinking of... A Silly Symphony from 1938.
Here's some more info...

Still not a big Robert McKimson fan. His drawings were too conservative for my taste. Not "zany" enough. Tex,Chuck and Bob were out there though.

I love the irony in the fact that most of the Disney stuff doesn't reflect the quote of the man who gave it its name. Nice progression, though.

holly shit....

what the fuck happend!!!????
were is the funny today^????
John, me again
you should post the first expression on the man in "One Froggy Evening", when he listen de frog for first time.
That is one of the most hilarious expression that i have seen in my life!!!
AMEN!
Nice post, John! I totally agree with Disney there. Though he sometimes doesn't live up to that quote. I dunno, I might be talking out of my ass here.

Fun stuff! That Peter Pan drawing had a remarkably fresh and lively clean-up.
