Happy Canada day to all my fellow Canadians-even the dirty ones!
AND MOM AND DAD!
Here's some stuff from an online commercial I just finished.

I'll tell you all about this later in the week when it goes up officially.
It was made by a great crew and I'll introduce you to some real stars.

Happy Canada Day to everyone in the country that reeks of trees.
Can't wait to see the new commercial! I swear, John, your work makes it feel like the golden days of television advertisement. I even wish cigarettes were legal to advertise on TV, if we could see Cigarettes peddling them.
Hey John, I look forward to seeing who helped you produce your latest project. Do they all have a sketchblog too? I hope to see more of their work.
I can't wait! :)
Nice use of transparencies in the hair of some of the kids and the dragon! :)
Wow! This looks awesome! Cant wait to see the commercial!
"Our country reeks of trees,
Our yaks are really large,
and they smell like rotting beef carcasses.
And we will clean up after them,
Our saddle sores are the best.
We proudly wear womens' clothing
And seering sand blows up our skirts!"
:)
Looking forward to it as well! Great characters there... I see some Rex Hackelberg designs, but who else? Brian Romero inks?
Happy Canada Day to you too John. I was wondering, are you going to be at the San Diego Con this year? I know that Jim Smith's goin.
Hey John,
I was lucky enough to see the full commercial - it looks AMAZING. I love the puppeteer. And Gary's voice took me right back to my childhood.
Comcast really got their money's worth! People will want to see this again and again!
Happy Canada day to you too John!
On Canada Day here in Sydney, one of my co-workers drove to North Sydney and asked when the fire works would be. The man replied "What fire works??" NO FIRE WORKS??!! ON CANADA DAY??!! That doesn't feel right. Apparently, our nation's birthday was pre-empted for a celebreation of Princess Diana's birthday and she's been dead for almost 10 years.
Oh well, I ate a cupcake with a Canadian flag on it and I watched a Dudley Do-Right cartoon that day. At least I did something.
Man even the stills make my day.
Whether its dedicated to Canada or not.
Wow-nice inks-how did you do it? Drawn on paper and scanned in?
Does anyone know what software John K. uses to make these great works? I'm having trouble finding a decent drawing/paint program. If anyone can recommend anything, I'd love it.
Yessy,
The pencil art was scanned into Photoshop and registered with frames for each character in their own folder layer. Then the pencil art would be pasted into Illustrator for inking with a few simple custom brushes. From there it was pasted into Flash for coloring and animation.
Cartoon Lad,
You can check out my blog for a simple tutorial on inking with Illustrator. I'll be doing a small addition to it soon since I learned a few new techniques while working on this project.

Our fuses have been so damp lately in Dallas, after previous two years of drought, now we're drowning in too much rain, so no fireworks, not even for 4Th Of July - waaaaahhhh!
(secretly plays scratchy cardboard wax recording of David Letterman soulfully intoning "Oh Canada" while Paul Schafer plays the portable aluminum harmonium, that we had cut out from old Tundra-size cereal box of Extra Flaky Deer Tick Puffs, (now fortified with real rose hips and organ grinder monkey organs!)the breakfast of super extra-ordinary good citizens everywhere, except in Lark's Vomit,Manitoba, where's there's an ongoing patent leather and trademark dispute and also not in Kennebunkport, Maine, they don't clean their fingernails or say their prayers, so we have it on good authority, honest, we swear).

If you're looking for software to make you draw like John K. you won't find it. :)
But everything Brian mentioned is industry standard, easily found software.

I love the cat design John. Funny....
Thanks Brian!
rex's influence is a cool idea! looks awesome
I came here just to find out if you were the one who created the cartoon. Yup, sure enough it was you. I remember the voice from Ren and Stimpy as well.
But John, you sold your soul to the internet devil.
