ADT Commercial Animatic

Speaking of commercials, here's one we bid on but didn't land.

It was right around the time we did the Nike commercial and ADT also wanted a big bad wolf cartoon.
ADT COMMERCIAL ANIMATIC (2.5mb)

I whipped up a storyboard and we shot it, but it never went past that. Mike Kerr acted out some of the little things the wolf did and I stuck 'em in there. Like the clicking of the fingers. Don't ask me what it means, but I thought it was funny, so there it is.

That would have been great.

Very clever twist--do you remember what the ad you lost out to was like?

Wow! Great stuff! I can't believe ADT passed on this!

I really like that! I'm surprised they didn't go with it.

Those cartoons for auto insurance are getting a lot of raves, so perhaps ADT will go with your idea in the future.

That would have been cool to see on TV. I like the wolf's hat.

The clicking of the fingers IS funny, and I don't know why. Frustrated finger snapping, haha!

I loved those drawings.

hi john,
i just saw that the new Looney Tunes set has a Bob Clampett disc, but it looks like no John K commentaries... even if they DVNR'd it to look like crap, i'm definitely getting it for the ease of pausing and frame by framing on a DVD player...

to make up for that John K. absence can you please do some more future posts on Bob Clampett? any analysis or just stories about what he was like would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

This one would have been great as well. Great design on this other wolf too, I really like his facial expressions. It's simpler than the Nike one and it has less gags but it seems it could have had some really nice animation too.

Too bad this was never made. The finger snapping was a nice random touch.

Great poses! Just out of curiosity, what would be the turnaround time for a 30 second commercial like this? Were they done all in house?

Glad you post it, this is great.

Red Rover Studios in Canada did a wolf vs. pig ADT commercial with WB-style animation:

John, red rover completely ripped your idea off!!! It's the exact same damn thing!!!

What kind of industry is this?

The idea came from the ad agency. They just had a few different studios all do their takes on it.
